  1. “Only if they attack me,” Kelsier said cheerfully. “Or my house or my people. And even then, it depends on the situation. Sometimes I just shoot them.”
  2. “That is an unfortunate, but common, side effect of hemalurgy, yes,” Kelsier said cheerfully.
  3. “Don’t worry,” Kelsier said reassuringly. “You won’t need it when I’m done.”
  4. “Kel-see-ay,” Kelsier corrected exasperatedly. “What is it with you people from Earth? There’s no ‘er’ sound!”
  5. “Boon,” Kelsier said decisively. “I can always find another coinshot.” Boons were much harder to come by. “Priére, I’ll need the Atium. You know which alloy?” The priest nodded. “Yes, Lord Survivor. I will be back shortly.” He hurried up the ladder.
  6. Epsilon’s cool, but Golden is better looking.
  7. Kelsier rolled his eyes. “That was my point. You didn’t do any reconnaissance. You just accepted the first job offer, no questions asked before or after.” He shook his head. “I have no use for someone that inept.”
  8. Kelsier snorted. “So you just randomly accept assassination contracts from strangers without bothering to do any research. You’ve read enough of Brandon’s books to recognize my symbol, but didn’t notice it all over the gate? Or did and didn’t consider the consequences of attacking one our members?”
  9. Kelsier swung her up in the air, then caught her in his arms, hugging her tightly. “Good to see you too, Princess.”
  10. “After Nalthis, why did you come to Scadrial?”
  11. “I asked for more information than just that,” Kelsier said, a dangerous note entering his voice. “You want to stay alive, you’d best start being useful.”
  12. Kelsier smiled, but inwardly he frowned. This girl wasn’t very observant, it seemed. “And Nalthis? I’d like the same information: location, features, government, technological and societal structure.”
  13. The Survivor nodded. “Tell me about it. What did it look like? Which land were you in? What can you tell me about the government structure and the technological levels?”
  14. “Never played,” Kelsier said cheerfully. “So, Sel. What was that like?”
  15. Thank you! I’ve been exhausted all week, so I’m just glad I got it done.
  16. Kelsier smirked. “Thematically appropriate? Never would have guessed the old Dragon had a sense of humor.”
  17. Are we allowed to vote for ourselves this time?
  18. Why do you worry?
  19. “You haven’t told me what it is,” Kelsier said coldly. “And it wasn’t the Nightwatcher who touched you. You’re not giving me much reason to keep you alive right now. Cultivation plays her own game and I’ve no interest in playing a role in it.” At least not at this moment. If she made him an offer...
  20. Kelsier frowned. “So you’ve been touched by Her...” he murmured. ”If safe travel was your Boon, what was your curse?”
  21. Kelsier sighed. “You aren’t making yourself very useful, you know. You might want to work on that. “How did you get off Roshar?”
  22. Kelsier sighed. “Did you hear anything about the Sons of Honor or my people there?”
  23. “I’m aware,” Kelsier said dryly. “What can you tell me about the Heralds? Or Restares?”
  24. Kelsier’s face grew hard. “Tell me.”
