So who is Restares or what's up with him

I think the ‘old fool’ is Taravangian. -
Hasn’t Venli already been ‘married’ once already? She’s a different species, and probably has a shorter ‘childhood’. They certainly seem to have lower birth rates...

My youngest is 2... I wasn’t pregnant all that long ago. I’m in my childbirthing years. I dreamed about being pregnant when I was still a virgin. Doesn’t mean I’ve ever viewed myself as being pregnant, just capable of it.

theory Odium wants to recruit Kaladin
Kingsdaughter613 replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Interestingly, due to the nature of DID, Shallan would be a terrible champion for Odium. ‘Shallan’ might be willing to accept Odium, but Radiant would probably keep her Oaths, and Veil seems to be more likely to join a third party like the Ghostbloods. Get part of Shallan to agree? That works. Get ALL of Shallan to agree..? Not so much.- 14 replies

A different take on "Formless"
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Cheat Commando's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shallan looks like her mother. From the official game: At least some artwork (particularly the Odium card) has some things that aren’t explained until RoW. (Odium has a Fused in stone...) Brandon approved all the art, and was directly involved in the game creation, so I think we can assume the resemblance is cannon. Worth noting the Lightweaver card shows Shallan, Veil, Radiant, a bunch of formless figures and an unclear male figure. That may be Adolin (it looks a bit like him) but it could also be a future Identity in the process of forming. And the cards definitely include some book 3 stuff... -
I had four pregnancies in four years. Gave birth to three children, and nursed as much as I could. I never considered my ‘natural state’ to be pregnant or nursing, and I felt perfectly normal when I wasn’t. My friends had similar experiences, and similar feelings on the subject. I’m not talking from inexperience...

10 years later, a look at the WoK back cover blurb
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Wyndleblade's topic in Stormlight Archive
It also doesn’t say HOW one WILL destroy them. For all we know, it isn’t due to any great act of evil. No one has to turn bad. All we know is that someone will do something that will destroy them. Perhaps they save the wrong person? Don’t help the right one? Turn right instead of left? Make what seems to be the correct decision, but it ends up being utterly wrong (think Eshonai)? -
Wax - Kell doesn’t know about Aluminum and has never faced a gun. Assuming Kell survives the initial clash though, Wax does not survive the night and Kell gets an interesting weapon to study.

Just for Fun: Mistborn Disney Playlist
Kingsdaughter613 replied to MasterGhandalf's topic in Mistborn
Nope, that’s book 3, when they’re killing nobles. Particularly since that song is particularly nasty when one considers the soon-to-be French Revolution... for the movie world. It fits those scenes much better.- 10 replies

Lol! He’s described as blond in one scene, and it’s easy to miss. It’s why all the official art gives him blond hair though. It took several rereads to notice, and then I was like ‘Oh, man. I have to swap my entire mental image of him. And Marsh!’ I’ve come around though. I tend to picture Kell’s hair as dark gold, with some orange tints, as opposed to straight yellow. I also used to picture him with blue eyes, until they were canonized as hazel. That suits him pretty well though, so I like it. Especially considering the green eyes - trickster connection.
-
I’ve managed to switch in my head how all the characters’ names sound... and now I can’t turn it off, which is annoying because Brandon pronounces them ‘like an American would.’ I used to do it wrong though. And it took me forever to envision Kell with blond hair. I kept thinking it was dark...

Cunning can definitely be a good trait. Classically though, it was viewed as negative and specifically ascribed to the Jewish people, often in conjunction with greed and ambition. That’s why you have to be careful. Positive portrayal is usually not an issue unless a) the character is distinctly Jewish and b: it is the sole or defining trait of that character.

God as the Actor refers to the concept of God as the one who performs acts. It’s not the action, so much ‘one who does actions.’ Other names specify acts. For example: God the Redeemer obviously references redemption. God as the Creator. The Avenging God. The Merciful God etc. God as the Actor is the acknowledgment that God performs action, without specifying any acts. He is the source of deeds. Ambition is generally the drive to act. God as the Actor refers to God as both the one acting and the source of action. And actions are the way we manifest ambition, bringing it full circle. If that makes any sense. Old Hebrew has seven tenses. This would be the future potential action, I think, which doesn’t really exist in English.

To start with... Slytherin house is so full of anti-Semitic stereotypes that it’s really hard to ignore if you know Jewish history. Or: cunning, ambitious, wealthy, insular, conspiring to control/overturn the government, practice black magic, inbred, associated with snakes. Later on they control the media. Snape is described as sallow faced and hook nosed, Slytherin as monkey faced with a long goatee, Crabbe and Goyle as gorilla-ish, and Tom Riddle as alluringly handsome. Every. Single. One. is an anti-Semitic stereotype. Every. One. Especially together. You also may be beginning to see the issue... especially when you consider that the only way to make it worse would have been if Malfoy was a banker or merchant. He was already hiding contraband under his floorboards. She even got the ‘seduces innocent Christian maid’ one in book 2. Oh, and when Snape turns out to be good... it’s implied it’s because he never should have been a Slytherin to begin with. (Though, to JKR’s credit, Snape takes this as an offense - which it is.) Note: She did NOT do this on purpose. JKR was drawing heavily on classical European tropes for her houses, and was directly inspired by Oliver Twist. That book includes Fagin, who was written in a very anti-Semitic way. The fact that you associate negative ambition with Slytherin house is very problematic, as that reinforces anti-Semitic stereotypes... Basically: ANY and EVERY classically negative mental and physical trait in European literature is anti-Semitic. THAT is how pervasive the hatred was. So be very, very cautious when using any classical negative traits. Particularly ambition and cunning and greed. Never put all three together. I think Brandon was referring to the color’s traits, not how players play.

My entire people is described, to my mind lovingly, as ‘stiff-necked.’ Our entire history can be boiled down to ‘we are doing things our own way, no matter who says otherwise.’ That’s not a flaw. It means that you know your own mind - it means you HAVE your own mind! You have goals, you know where you are and where you want to be headed, and you’re ready and willing to take the steps necessary to do so, and are willing to accept the sacrifices such a course may entail. Good or not is up to how that ambition is utilized, but it’s an amazingly powerful force for good and bad. I found this on an MTG wiki, which interesting because it seems closer to the idea of personal autonomy... Do what you want because YOU want it. Not out of duty, or obligation, or because someone else told you. Be your OWN advocate. Define your OWN values." "Above all else have power. If you do not have power. You will lose all that you value. Because other people DO have power. And they will not hesitate to use that against you. Beyond that, Black is free to be as kind and cruel as it wishes. It is, after all, the color of individual choice and self-determination. Why should it force its users to act in a specific way? Also, people should be careful about using ambition in the negative as that association often has anti-Semitic roots. Avoiding being accidentally anti-Semitic can be quite tricky, due to how pervasive those negative stereotypes can be. It seems Brandon’s interpretation takes the neutral path, which I like. But none of it contradicts God as the Actor. What part specifically do you think it contradicts?

Inktober: Radiant Assassins
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Kingsdaughter613's topic in Sanderson Fan Works
Day 5: Heavenly and Recruit Skybreaker Altaïr recruits Windrunner Maria. Altaïr does not have a sword because he has a Spren instead. Maria’s Spren has decided to be a Skyeel today. The Templar symbol in this world includes Cosmere and Vorin elements. I’m kind of working out a timeline for this world now. Kassandra lives during the Exile from Ashyn. Bayek and Aya/Amunet live during the early desolations. Eivor lives around the Last Desolation Altaïr and Maria live during the Recreance. Assassins and Templars do not break their Radiant oaths, so both Orders continue bonding the occasional Spren over the years. Ezio lives during the Hierochrocy. Nothing much happens during Edward’s story, but he does meet Adewale, who is a Listener in this ‘verse. Ade does bond a Spren, but no one knows of him outside the Assassins. Now we swap to games. AC Rogue occurs during the mess in Alethkar prior to Gavilar. AC3 takes place when Gavilar and Dalinar are young, and Connor helps a small area become a free state. Half-Listener Aveline lives at this time. Unity occurs as Gavilar begins his rise, and Arno befriends him. Shay, Connor, Aveline, and Arno are all alive when the Everstorm comes. Evie and Jacob live sometime after the events of SA, as does Lydia. Desmond is watching all this from the future. Eventually, Layla does the same.- 9 replies

Since I’m theorizing that’s Urithiru is actually a giant spren, this could be literally and figuratively true!

Agreed. I think it may happen a bit later in the book than Kholinar though. But definitely not at the end - it’s just too obvious a place!

Inktober: Radiant Assassins
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Kingsdaughter613's topic in Sanderson Fan Works
Day 6: Blight and Scull Dustbringer Io:nhiote blights the land with her surges as she attacks Singers and Fused. The skulls are Parsh skulls. Io is the youngest child of Connor. I picked her Order using the Radiant quiz. Her hair is dark in AC canon; in this ‘verse it has some red in it too. Very little is known of her outside one comic, so I was able to design her as I wished. Her robes are based off her father’s. Yes, I know I missed day 5. I’m working on it!- 9 replies

No, I don’t think Urithiru falls at the end of Rhythm of War. It falls 4/5ths of the way through. Possibly 2/3ds. The end is much to obvious for Brandon.

You said none were successful, which is untrue. Not that ‘they are very rarely successful’ which is. And speaking from the perspective of a people who has faced multiple attempts at genocide, we have zero interest in enacting revenge. All we’ve ever wanted was to live our lives, and keep our faith, in peace. Admittedly, revenge would mean wiping the entirety of Europe off the face of the Earth, so...

There’s no saying they wouldn’t, though the Windrunners would likely fight any attempt. But right now the Fused seem more likely to attempt it, seeing as they just put someone who has already tried back in charge.
