  1. Magic wizard armor from Stormlight Archive series. It does have some resistance to the Surges on Roshar, so I'd assume it would also be resistant to steel pushing. The trouble would be keeping it fueled without access to additional stormlight. Back to the main topic, how about Ranette style tech for twinborns? I'm imagining a steel compounder could seriously benefit from a big suit made of bubble wrap.
  2. Sorry, Thanks for the catch!
  3. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it: I don't have the quote in front of me, but I seem to remember in HoA the crew mentioned that the Pits would take about 300 years to grow back and produce atium again after Kelsier attacked them. Ruin seemed pretty distraught when Elend burned up all his atium and he couldn't reclaim the power for himself, so I'm assuming the pits will grow back if they haven't already and Harmony didn't absorb them during his ascension. Has it been considered that Trell might be trying to secure the atium for himself and either run off or attempt to splinter harmony? Any other thoughts on what could happen if a massive supply of atium was suddenly made available in the Basin?
  4. The over-sensitivity of Tineyes has always struck me as something that would be fairly easy to fix with a little preparation: Tinted goggles to make going out with super-senses in the daylight possible Sound canceling headphones to block out specific frequency bands (I think the US military had some rudimentary versions in the 1930's?) Painkillers so they don't die from stubbing their toes clothespin for their nose if they need to infiltrate somewhere dark and disgusting (Sewers?) I've always wanted to see a Thug decked out in full heavy plate armor but maybe that's just overkill The enhancement metals are sort of difficult, though I could see Nicrobursts carrying around utility belts packed with all the metal vials for their team in future books. Personally, I'd love to see a Soother/Rioter hypnotist duo. Speaking of emotional manipulation, it seems to me that it would probably be very easy for a rioter to basically control someone if they roofied them first and flared one thing (IE: murderous rage)
  5. Have an upvote for totally blowing my mind; definitely adopting this theory!
  6. I definitely agree that Spook is still alive, he would've been something like 120 when he stepped down as king. Considering how unlikely people are to live to this age, let alone live to it and still maintain the competency to rule a kingdom, I'd say there's solid evidence that he figured out a way to artificially extend his life, either through hemalurgy/feruchemy or world hopping. Assuming he was physically present for the majority of his reign, we can actually rule out world hopping prior to his retirement and using time-bubbles to extend his age. My Theory: Spook found himself a full compliment of inquisitor spikes and is living in the shadows like Marsh and the Kandra
  7. The simplest explanation I can think of for the lack of red shifts is that, in the Cosmere, the speed of light is not constant for all observers, which would also open up the possibility of faster-than-light travel. I only have my Bachelor's in Physics, so don't take my word as law on the subject, but for the most part I don't think this rule-change from how our universe works would cause all that many issues (considering the theory of relativity is only about 100 years old) and would be a simple and elegant explanation. My best guess as to why Brandon Sanderson has declined to commit to an explanation so far is because they probably haven't decided exactly what technologies they want to showcase in the last Mistborn trilogy, as some modern techs would be deeply affected by a lack of Relativity, whereas others would function more or less unchanged from how we know them.
  8. I definitely like this theory; it seems particularly elegant that, just like mass, strength, mental speed, ect. that Feruchemists should have varying base amounts of spiritual attributes. Wayne's abilities to perfectly imitate and adapt the accents and mannerisms of those around him has always struck me as fairly unrealistic. It would make it a lot easier for me to accept this unique ability of his if it had some kind of justification like this, as he doesn't seem to have received much in the way of training or mentoring in the arts of acting and manipulation prior to meeting Wax.
  9. The only question in my mind is: when a kandra takes a form does is its DNA resemble a precise copy of the thing its impersonating? Assuming the kandra's ability to transform is a characteristic granted to it by its sDNA and not related to its DNA, then there doesn't seem to me to be any reason that it couldn't become a perfectly functioning genetic copy of any person or animal, meaning they could, in theory reproduce... Does anyone recall any WoB relating to how sDNA is passed from parent to offspring? Follow up question, do we know if kandra can only impersonate people and animals? I'm suddenly imagining Melaan as a talking stalk of corn or giant Ent from lord of the rings.
  10. Odium would instead be Affection and all of the worlds he traveled to would experience peace, prosperity, and fellowship. Hoid, still on his home planet, would answer people's questions with short, direct, and helpful answers. Kaladin, having never become a radiant, would suffer periodic episodes of extreme mania, resulting in extended benders and binges across western Roshar, ultimately ending in drug overdose in an Aimian pub, leaving his baby-mama Shallan to pick up the pieces of her life which, by odd coincidence, was shattered in both universes.
  11. The way I've been reconciling this to myself so far has been to assume that during his initial ascension Sazed, perhaps out of ignorance of their existence, overlooked the southerners and once he became aware of them and their plight he determined that adapting their environment in any meaningful way would necessarily cause some sort of climatic disruption to the paradise he built in the Basin. But no matter how you slice it, it does seem kinda crappy that he didn't at least change their bodies to deal with the cold... I'm guessing (hoping) this strangeness will receive some sort of explanation in future books, as it seems like it goes against Sazed's usual character.
  12. They both roar when you set them on fire. Children are like coffee beans.
  13. Could it be possible Szeth just heard, and later reported to the Stone Shamans, a particularly compelling Death Rattle predicting the return of the voidbringers? This seems like the simplest answer to me. Do we know where Moelach was when Szeth was named Truthless? If he was on the far east side of the continent at the time this might not be a good theory.

    ettmetal

Assuming the metal isn't an alloy and belongs to our known periodic table of elements, and considering the violence of the reaction they described when contacting water and the mass of ettmetal they loosely implied was available...and without getting bogged down in too much math and chemistry, I would be more inclined to assume that the so-called "ettmetal" was equivalent to one of our 4th or 5th row alkali or alkali earth metals (IE: Potassium, Calcium, Rubidium, or Strontium), as opposed to lithium. However, based on the information provided, I think you're probably in the right ballpark and narrowing it down further at this point would be fairly difficult and imprecise.
