  1. Agree with @ThirdGen. I thought La La Land was a very sweet film with great music. I'm working on catching up on Agents of SHIELD and Gotham. Totally love Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider.
  2. @LeftVash Glad you liked John Cleaver so much! I think his character just gets more and more... how do I put this... empathetic? As the series goes on. Like, I like him more with every successive book.
  3. I think four is enough. For a while, we had four regulars, and it was nice--easy to manage food with a couple of pizzas and not hard to find a space large enough, that kind of thing.
  4. Okay, I want to give this a try. =)
  5. @LeftVash I cannot endorse IANASK enough. By far my favorite thing by Dan Wells. And the movie adaptation was astonishingly well done too! If you enjoy the book, the movie's definitely worth watching.
  6. I received a dress in the mail. But it's not just any dress. It's a blue dress that I plan to do some alterations on in order to turn it into a Doctor Strange tunic.
  7. @dead-moth I keep running out of upvotes because I'm spending them in here. I LOVE your sketches!
  8. Since there were a bunch of music jokes in the "What do you look like" thread recently but that's not really on topic, I decided that this was the best place to share this funny music-related video:
  9. <- completely envious. I gain five pounds if I even look at a donut or ice cream. I'm 5'5", and I hate being short, even though I'm technically about "average" for an American woman. Mostly I snack on Slim Jims, gummy candies like Lifesavers, or this AMAZING Korean BBQ pork jerky from Costco. I also like granola bars, Cheez-its, raw carrots, Pringles, and creamy peanut butter (sometimes on toast or crackers and sometimes straight from the jar). Oh, and dill pickles. Loooove dill pickles.
  10. Happy birthday, @Kestrel! I hope you have a fabulous day! *hugs*
  11. I would probably ask Peter Ahlstrom about that... I couldn't find a mailing address on Brandon's site, but Peter would know, depending on exactly what you want to send.
  12. I've been surrounded by music terminology for so long that when I read posts about the fish bass, I pronounce it in my head as "base" until I realize they're talking about the fish.
  13. I've always felt this was kind of a weird subforum for the topic too. I vote to move it. Also, I would be interested in reviving Cosmere Club, although I may have a harder time making it to meetings since it's my last fully loaded semester at BYU.
  14. Yup, that's my standard practice! (Also why I usually don't rent textbooks: because you can't sell them back.)
  15. Quick, call the Doctor!!
  16. Ditto. This one's mostly just funny because of its awfulness--not actually painful.
  17. And that's why this joke exists: Q: How do you tune a pair of oboes? A: Shoot one.
  18. I tend to "type" movie/TV dialogue on my legs, as if on an imaginary keyboard, while I watch. (I guess this is a sign that I spend too much time on the computer! XD) Sometimes while listening to music, I "finger" the melody as I would if I were playing it on an oboe, the instrument I played in high school band class. Something that I just started doing in the past few years is humming almost constantly. There's always a song playing in my head, and I have a really hard time not letting it out.
  19. I've listened to like one or two at a time, but never a whole room full. The question is, Can a single bad violinist sound as bad as a single bad oboist? Oscar the Grouch is a Sanderfan?? =D
  20. Hollywood has a similar problem.
  21. I managed to save a lot of money on textbooks for the upcoming semester. A single book I was supposed to buy cost over $200 new, but I found a used copy of the previous edition for 36 cents on Amazon. (Plus $3.99 shipping, but that's nothing compared to $200!) There were several other annoyingly expensive books on the list, but I saved a lot by ordering used copies and, in one case, renting from B&N. Ended up spending ~$75 instead of like $350.
  22. Sometimes I can't even see the lane lines when it's raining at night! Snow definitely worse, though, since it's so much more slippery.
  23. I think the best driving advice I've ever gotten was "Don't assume that other drivers are going to follow traffic laws."
  24. Somewhat related: It drives me up the wall when I'm turning onto a road with two lanes and somebody from the opposite side of the intersection is also turning onto that road, and they try to turn into MY lane, e.g., I'm turning right and they're turning left and they try to pull into the right lane. That's not how it works!! We could both turn at the same time without a problem if they'd just STAY IN THEIR STORMING LANE.
  25. *waves arms* I play oboe too! Only if you play it well, though. Badly played oboe sounds worse than pretty much any other badly-played instrument. XD
