  1. @Oversleep That's super cool! That line kind of reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy: "Doors are for people with no imagination."
  2. Once a month, Sharders who live near the Orem/Provo area of Utah get together on BYU campus with pizza and rootbeer and just hang out and talk about books, movies, TV, whatever's going on in our lives. People who usually come include little wilson, zas678, Slowswift, and me (Sunbird), and last month Xaladin came too.
  3. Bridge Four. No emotional Allomancy to worry about. Would you rather be a kandra or a Steel Inquisitor?
  4. Off-topic, but @Oversleep, where is this quote in your signature from?
  5. Haha. Funny story, though: Rachel Aaron has a book series called The Legend of Eli Monpress in which flattering or threatening a door into opening is actually a viable option.
  6. People who claim to care about the well-being of birds but then let their pet cats roam around outside and kill birds. Seriously, this guy made a post on a birdwatching page on Facebook that essentially said, "So I've had a pair of wrens nesting in my yard lately, and when I go outside today what did I find? Mother wren, dead on my porch. I am so mad at my cat!!" And I'm just sitting here thinking, It's your own stupid fault for letting your cat outside, dude. Cats gonna cat, but YOU should know better.
  7. I got 2 pleasant surprises today. So last week I bought a copy of Rick Riordan's latest book, The Hidden Oracle, at the King's English bookstore in Salt Lake. Today I opened it up to start reading, and what do I find? Rick's signature scrawled across the title page! Score!! The other pleasant surprise happened while I was reading a copy of the graphic novel Kill Shakespeare Vol 2 that I bought used from Amazon. I found a loose insert with a letter from the writers/editors on one side that said there'd been a printing error and so they had to put that page in to correct it, but that maybe one day it would be a cool collectible. (The printing error was that the original page of comics was missing all the speech bubbles.)
  8. Ok... WLIU name 15 books that have been adapted into movies or TV shows.
  9. I like the idea of being able to see someone's rep count by hovering the mouse over their rep title. Also agree wholeheartedly with Chaos's most recent post--the ranks are all named after fictional characters, and they're all part of the Sanderson stories we love, so I think they absolutely belong on this site. Also this.
  10. I am also in the habit of typing out all the BBCode myself, but that's because I don't like having to take one hand off the keyboard to use the mouse and click the formatting buttons. Also, I used to frequent a few forums that had Quick Reply boxes that had no formatting buttons, so I just learned the basic BBCode tags that I use most often so I wasn't handicapped without the formatting buttons. Random somewhat-related note: I get kind of annoyed typing book reviews on GoodReads since that site uses HTML instead of BBCode and the <> keys for the HTML tags are not as convenient to reach as the [] keys.
  11. I believe this is the direct link to that post. Funny thing is, now the post shows that I have given it an upvote, without my attempting again since the error message. I guess it was a temporary glitch, possibly caused by my home wifi cutting out? I was also able to upvote one of Mistrunner's other posts just now without a problem.
  12. Just disproved that theory by upvoting this post.
  13. Granted. Your new laptop has Windows 10 as its OS, and you can never change operating systems. I wish for the cost of all food to go down by 50%.
  14. Ok, so I just got this message when I attempted to give Mistrunner an upvote a little while ago... Can anyone explain what this means?
  15. This walrus was the first meme I ever remember seeing. Somebody at my middle school had a print of it that she brought to school and could not stop showing everyone and cracking up about. (This was like back in 2005 or 2006, so it's an oooooold meme.) Fantastic news!! Although I get Agents of SHIELD on Hulu-plus, I was lax about keeping up with the episodes and watching them before they expired, so I've still got like 8 eps left in season 3 and only 5 of them are available on Hulu right now. Plus, no ads on Netflix is a major bonus. Amen! In related news, apparently the Hamilton Broadway cast is going on tour around the USA in the 2017/2018 musical touring season and one of their stops will be in Salt Lake City. No word yet on when tickets will go on sale or how much they will cost, but I super wanna go.
  16. Ok, so we've managed to get 8 out of 10... 9. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back? 10. Jurassic Park? 11. Jaws? I feel like there should be a Steven Spielberg movie on the list.
  17. Just wanted to pop in here and say that I am pleased with the new update. I love getting notifications when somebody quotes me or gives me an upvote, and especially the fact that the notifs link me to the relevant post. Also awesome are the links back to subforums at the bottom of thread pages so I don't have to scroll back to the top. (This is especially useful on the mobile version!)
  18. The Gathering
  19. Reminder: June is more than half over. Are we going to meet this month?
  20. TenSoon. Because he's a total badchull at shapeshifting and it would be super awesome to have that skill on my side. Would you rather be a mistwraith or a koloss?
  21. Being that I have asthma, I would opt for the highstorm because the ashfall would probably literally kill me. Would you rather be a stormform Listener or a parshman?
  22. The Crucible
  23. Oh ok. I'm glad I'm not just delusional. XD Also, I have finally begun to read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy after having had it on my Kindle for only a few years...
