"Awaken to my breath, Serve my needs, Live at my command and at my word." -Invocation of Lifeless The creature watched Amaranth with lifeless, colorless eyes. Frost was clinging to its bare arms, but it didn't seem particularly bothered, content to bide its time, watching the marshall with a disinterested expression, hand rested on the pommel of a sheathed blade. It was not the only one. Amaranth had reports that the lifeless had formed a loose perimeter around the camp. Each of them, like this one, merely watching, gazing into the camp, waiting. Amaranth turned back towards the camp, and the creature did nothing to follow him. He shivered, only in part from the cold. Several people looked up from the fire at his approach. "Marshall Incarnadine," a soldier acknowledged. "I would like a volunteer to test the perimeter of these lifeless. Try to get past them, or at least figure out what we're dealing with." The soldiers were silent. "Anyone? You have my word that there will be soldiers ready to intervene if this goes south." The mass of soldiers withdrew, leaving a pair of soldiers standing forward. Their eyes widened as they realized what just happened. "Shu and Fahmexa. Thank you for your willingness. However, I only require one volunteer." "I can stay," Shu said quickly. "No really, that's fine, I can stay back," Fahmexa replied. "Shu is our only real cook, it may be for the best if he stayed back," a voice interjected. Amaranth glanced at the speaker. "Very well, captain." Fahmexa started out trudging across the snow to the perimeter, coat held tight around her to counter the chill wind. Even a normal day seemed, well, drab to her eyes... But this landscape was already pretty bleak to begin with. As she reached the edge of the camp, she noticed eyes on her. One of the lifeless marched her way, stopping several paces in front of her as if on an invisible boundary. She met the creature's eyes, then stepped backwards. It was commander Jaaver. His throat neatly stiched up, still wearing his Idrian captain's uniform, now completely devoid of color. He stared at her calmly, standing with exactly the same posture as in life, the same scowl on his face he used when somebody was breaking the rules. Was this the fate waiting for all of them? She gritted her teeth, then stepped forwards. Jaaver didn't react. She broke into a run, dodging to the side and sprinting forward, around Jaaver, past the perimeter... Something struck her in the back, and she went down, winded. Jaaver picked her up, walked back to the perimeter line, and deposited her on the other side. Then he walked back to his original position, lifeless eyes forward again as if nothing had happened, daring her to try to cross again. "So we can't leave? Just like that?" one of the soldiers asked, incredulous. "That is correct," the marshall replied. "You need only look to Fahmexa if you are inclined to disbelieve." There was murmering among the soldiers at this, and more as Amaranth departed to his tent. "Hear that? We're stuck here 'til we catch the traitor!" "Easier said then done. Unless you're admitting you did it?" "Oh for Austre's sake, you're can't be serious. Don't be stupid." "WHO STUPID?? ROID'S HEAD NOT VOID!!!" "It's okay Roid, I don't think they meant you. Here, have a cookie, it'll make you feel better." "I tried one of your cookies and it's making it hard to paint. What do you put in those?" "Anyone up for another game of craps?" "The last time we did that we killed Jaaver, silly. Or maybe you wanted to kill Jaaver, hmmm?" "How could I even have known what he was gonna roll? I didn't do anythin'." "No, I don't think you did. I bet he did it." "Me? That's INSANITY! What about that fellow who took my scarf? I bet it was him!" "I think you're being too quiet." "Oh yeah?? Well you're being too loud!" "If I don't accuse you, I might get sick." "If I don't accuse you, I might be the one who gets picked." "Well that's just what a Hallandren would say!!" "STOP!!!" a voice shouted over the din. And they did. Everybody froze. "Thank you. Now, we could be at this all day. Lets count up who is pointing at who and make a decision." When all was counted, Straw had the most fingers pointed at him. Four in total. "Alright. There is your traitor." As one, they seized him. ...and that's time! Next cycle should be up soon. Sooner than this one got up. I promise

Certainly, so long as nobody wishes to voice an objection? The reason I left them off is because I am in the habit of removing RP names from player lists when I make lists of reads in other games, and I thought it might be able to save people some time when they make their lists. But if that is backfiring, and using up more of your time, I can put the RP names back in the next batch. To keep it from getting too cluttered, I will leave off the player descriptions present in signups, unless people ask for that as well.

If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss Round and 'round the soldiers went. Throw, tally, repeat. The game of craps was in full swing and the camp was bustling with activity. The snow had not let up, and the lifeless were still out there somewhere, but circled around a crackling fire indoors, it was easy enough to forget these things. As alchohol began to flow, so too did money. Jeo the Yellow was pleased to see his prediction come true. "Who'll be in on this round?" he asked. "I nominate Mac!" Vaati shouted, grabbing Mac's hand and putting it in the air. "Fine," said Mac, a half-eaten cookie dropping from his mouth and finding it's way to the table, where it was joined by a second cookie. "I bet one-an-a-half cookies. No money," he explained. The players amassed nodded in approval. Most of them, anyways. "Gambling in illicit substances??" Jaaver exclaimed, striding into the gambling ring, his face still muddy. "That is ILLEGAL! The long arm of Idrian justice shall apprehend you, crook!" Mac looked up at Jaaver quizzically, then glanced away, his eyes darting restlessly back to the cookies on the table. "Give me those!" Jaaver exclaimed. "I am hereby confiscating this as evi-" "You want them so bad, how 'bout you play me for them?" Mac said, snatching the cookies off the table. The crowd seemed to bunch behind Mac protectively, and Jaaver took one step back from them. "Fine!" He growled. "I'll play your little game, and then I'm taking these to the Marshall." He dropped his wallet on the table, generating a satisfying thud. Mac threw. "Four and a five." Jaaver threw. "Double six." "This match goes to Mac," Jeo said, presiding over the affairs. "What?!" Jaaver exclaimed, livid. "Ridiculous! I demand a rematch." Mac raised an eyebrow. "Are you raising the stakes?" Jaaver scowled, then removed his hat and coat and threw them upon the table next to the wallet. Mac quietly stacked six more cookies next to the original pile. "The new bet is accepted," said Jeo. "Would anybody else like to join?" "ROID NOMINATE SARCOLINE!" a hulking fellow bellowed, shoving a frightened looking player to the table and throwing their wallet on the table. Jeo nodded. "Very well then. That leaves us with one spare pair of dice, so I nominate Eilen." Everyone nodded, and the game continued. "Six and five," from Mac. "Three and three," from Sarcoline. "Three and two," from Eilen. "One and two," Jaaver growled. "Colors curse this game! Enough of this charade! GIVE ME THOSE!" he screamed. Mac stood in front of his cookies protectively. Hard to imagine life without his cookies. "No! Play for them or leave." "Fine!!" he roared. "I raise the stakes! I don't care by what, one of you choose." A collective muttering swept across the amassed players as they deliberated. "Life and death," a voice interjected, calmly, decisevely from the crowd. "If there's a traitor, somebody's gotta get the axe sooner or later." The game went dead silent. The players looked around, trying to discern the source of the suggestion. And yet the idea stuck in their minds. It made a horrible kind of sense. The Marshall had said he expected them to turn in the traitor, sooner than later. And the lots were such a fitting way to decide it, too. Wordlessly, the four picked up their dice, staring across the table at each other. One by one, they threw. "Double four," from Mac. "Three and four," from Sarcoline. "One and five," from Eilen. Jaaver only stood silently, staring down at his lot. Snake eyes. After a long delay, he looked up. "Well," he stated, toneless, "I am nothing if not a man of my word... Finish this." Hope the writeup came out alright. Things were a little in flux right before rollover but I hope I can be on top of things more the next cycle. Fun story. The bit about Randuir losing at dice three times in a row is rooted in fact. I had to re-roll the lynch outcome thrice in response to last-minute voting that changed the contenders, and Randuir came up every single time. Snow flurried about the camp. On its outskirts, Marshall Amaranth Incarnadine studied the scout, mulling over the implications of what he had just heard. "And you are sure of this?" "Absolutely, sir." "Very well then," he sighed. "...follow me." Incarnadine approached the center of the camp, what might have once been a town hall of sorts before the Manywar spread across this region. Seated around the embers of a dying fire, a small group of soldiers played dice and swapping bits and bobs. Incarnadine looked to the scout. "Go ahead and tell them what you just told me." The scout began, "these ruins are the only thing that even approximate shelter anywhere nearby. And somebody must be controlling the band of lifeless we spotted a few days back, given their movements." "And your point?" one of the soldiers asked, looking up from their dice. "It means the one who is directing those lifeless is in our midst right now." Sorry I'm late. I'm a little new to the whole GM thing and I may have failed to anticipate everything that needed to be done prior to hitting the post button on this. If people ask for it, I could extend this cycle to make up for the lost time. You will receive a GM PM soon if you have not already. All of you now have PMs. Also, note that this is the only cycle in the game during which you can safely not cast a vote. Player List 1. A Joe in the Bush 2. Elenion 3. Randuir 4. Livinglegend 5. Yes, you most certainly can. The doc may be a bit sparse, because the dead doc and spec doc are going to be kept seperate due to the awakener mechanic. But I will have a spec doc link out to you in short order.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking you would either have to make some actions critical enough that the eliminators would have some space to hide in (at this point, the game starts looking a bit like avalon or secret hitler), or you would have to give everybody 2 action slots, or you could make the eliminator kill not count as an action (although that would be pretty weird if even voting constituted an action). Regardless, nothing like that is present in this game, though it's kind of a fun thought experiment.
-
Correct on all counts. I do not really count a vote as an "action". To my knowledge, there have not been any games that do count it as an action, but that might actually be a very interesting game mechanic for certain setups.
-
I approve of all the RP I am seeing. Your count is actually a day early, but thank you anyhow; I appreciate that you went through the trouble to do this when I was not around. An updated countdown should now be visible in my initial post. Or for convenience sake, you can also see it here:

I look forward to running this game. I would be perfectly happy to run it at our current player count. However, I also anticipate being quite unable to make rollover on Monday. In light of that fact, if it is acceptable to everyone, I would like to extend signups by 3 days.

Feel free not to read the rules. My intent is for this to be a simple game. The one nonstandard thing you need to know is that you'll die if you don't vote every cycle (with the exception of cycle 1). I suppose technically I have broken your condition though, so let me know if you still want in
-
Right you are. The awakener role grants a link to the dead doc. Communications will be anonymous but identity claims are perfectly allowed.
-
Ah, I see what is being asked, thank you. No, you would not be able to see that.
-
No on both counts.
-
Nope. The elim kill counts as an action, and each player can only take one action per cycle.
-
Welcome aboard. A sentry will be informed if their target targets themselves. Say you are a sentry. You target me. At the same time, I targeted myself, and Joe targeted me. In total, I have been targeted by 3 people: you, myself, and Joe. You will see that I was targeted by myself and Joe. You will not see your own name in that list, because that would be a touch redundant. Hopefully I am making sense. I'm a little tired rn so I apologize if I do not. As a point of reference, this is basically the behavior of the "lookout" role in non-sanderson mafia, I think.
-
I'll level with you, Oathbringer was just a little bit underwhelming. I would even go as far as to say that it is currently the weakest installment in the Stormlight Archive. But that's more because the first two books set the bar really, really high. Oathbringer was still an excellent read. I would not agree with the claim that it lacked character development, though I might agree that it had less character development than either of the previous two books. It's really hard to pace a book in the middle of a series (Well of Ascension, anyone? Although seriously the ending makes up for the pacing in the middle). It also doesn't help that I feel OB had a lot more hype than the last two. And as Hoid once said, expectation is the soul of art. So yeah. Even if I did not feel Oathbringer was quite as good as the last two, I'd still definitely rate 5/5.

I'll take it. Very well done. All things considered, you let me off the hook. At least the scroll that backfired in my face wasn't a scroll of genocide. Granted. The Empire has an army of Frank Zappa clones instead of Jango Fett clones. Unfortunately, you may not join the Empire like you stated you would wish to do. Your bane is that you are a sworn enemy of the Empire, and they will never let you join them. The 3+ million Zappaclones are all bent on destroying you. While you are probably going to end up killed by the Empire, at least you will have an extremely interesting story to tell in the afterlife. I wish for a well filled zincmind with no identity signature. -
If a sentry watches you, they are informed who targeted you (minus themselves, who presumably they are already aware of).
-
Glad to have you. Technically, both will be blocked. But neither awakener will be informed that they were blocked; the only role that will actually get a message saying that their action failed is the Sentry, because it is the only role that normally would receive feedback for an action. You raise an interesting question about the nature of awakening. Does it rely on the physical pigmentation, or some kind of cognitive element to color? Also, how would the heightenings effect a blind awakener? Would they be able to sense the biochromatic aura of other people through some means other than sight?

Terribly sorry. Perhaps I should not have made it so difficult. To clarify, that is a reference to Nethack, a positively ancient, text-based, DnD style game notorious for being rather complicated and killing players many, many, many times over. The sort-of joke here is that in vanilla nethack, "blessed greased fixed +2 grey dragon scale mail" is an extremely common first wish. -
I quite like how you think. But I do not plan to allow that. This inactivity filter will kill you if you do not have an active vote on somebody at the time of rollover. This operates regardless of how the vote is weighted, and vote manipulations deal exclusively with altering the weight of votes.
-
A very good question. No Joe would not die, because he still cast the vote even if it did not count towards the lynch.

Kalad Strifelover has overthrown Hanald, casting out the royal family of Idris. He has founded the nation of Hallandren in its place. Meanwhile, the dethroned and exiled Idris royal family has rallied old allies, forming the Pahn Unity. They aim to stand against Hallandren... And so the events are set in motion that will one day come to be known simply as "the Manywar." A near-global conflict where the fruits of new biochromatic research are bent solely towards unprecedented bloodshed. You have been sent to join a detachment of Idrian Soldiers that has just been dispatched from the infant nation of Idris, sent as sorely needed reinforcements to shore up the battle in Hallandren. ...But I never necessarily said it was Idris that sent you. Some of you are undoubtedly Hallandren Agents, sent to infiltrate the camp and keep the reinforcements from ever reaching the battle. Due to a severe winter, and the occasional sighting of a band of lifeless, your division has decided to hole up in the ruins of a ransacked town, one of many such towns in the wake of the Manywar. Because supplies are low, sickness is spreading, and visibility is poor, your division has elected not to break camp, at least until the weather improves. So now you are just kind of sitting around your campfire awkwardly, waiting for somebody to break the silence. Anybody care to introduce themselves? Ground Rules 24 Hour Cycles. Rollover at 7:00am GMT.Open single PMs, no group PMs.One action per cycle per person.Lynches are decided by plurality, minimum 2 votes. Tie votes are decided randomly.Failing to cast a vote on any cycle but the first one will result in death by sickness. Factions Idrian Loyalists- Villagers. Loyalists win if all the Hallandren Agents are killed. Hallandren Agents- Eliminators. Agents win if they outnumber the Idrian Loyalists. They have a google doc and a factional killing power. Roles Awakener- With basic knowledge of awakening, you may use an awakened rope to cancel somebody's action. With basic knowledge of lifeless, you may converse with the dead. Sentry- Tasked with watching over the camp, you may observe somebody at night, and discover who visits them. Captain- As a person of rank, you can discredit somebody, cancelling their vote. Soldier- You are the staple of the Idrian army. You don't get any special abilities, but at the end of the day your voice counts as much as anyone's. This game is scheduled to start in [signups has been extended by 3 days; the countdown reflects this fact] Player List: Rule Clarifications: Quick Links:
