Certainly. Perhaps I should explain how I am viewing the intents of these things. Tribulation, as has been brought up on another thread, is meant to refer to the idea of getting things by paying prices, going through trials, et cetera. Being tested. I am inclined to view autonomy as a shard that would respect individualism, carving one's own path, et cetera. In short, an individual prospering by proving their strength against the world. If we consider this aspect of the idea of "autonomy" fused with the idea of endowment, it follows that the resultant intent would feel motivated to test individuals and assist those it views as having earned it. In case anybody understand s the reference, I loosely derive the idea from the concept of the territory of valinhall, from a different series. Also some additional combos, speaking of autonomy and others: Autonomy+Odium = Selfishness //Self reliance + Hatred = Arrogance, thus ultimately selfishness Autonomy+Honor = Liberation //Autonomy with honorable justification is liberty Dominion+Devotion = Patriotism //Dominion and Devotion overlap when it comes to devotion to a nation/empire Dominion+Endowment = Privilege //Aristocracy and authority and such. I think the combination works fairly well for these two I added these in to the spreadsheet and all. This just includes explanations.

Some possible ones. Ruin+Autonomy = Chaos Ruin+Odium = Armageddon Ruin+Honor = Justice Ruin+Cultivation = Change Preservation+Honor = Salvation Preservation+Autonomy = Survival Preservation+Dominion = Order Odium+Dominion = Tyranny Odium+Cultivation = Deceit Autonomy+Endowment = Tribulation Autonomy+Dominion = Society Autonomy+Cultivation = Wilderness Honor+Dominion = Guidance Honor+Endowment = Sacrifice Devotion+Cultivation = Faithfulness Devotion+Endowment = Generosity

Want To Make A Video-Game With Me?
DrakeMarshall replied to StormlightTheVideogame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I am potentially interested in the idea. I can program. I would like to hear how exactly this would be developed though. Would you use a game engine? Perhaps even write it in pure source code?- 43 replies

Nobody is entirely sure how they got there, and you won't find hoid in either of them. Lifeless mammoths are like rusty spoons. -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DrakeMarshall replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. You have become a RAFO spren. You are in the physical realm and as a lesser spren cannot actually think, but whenever somebody gets a RAFO you will appear to them for a short time. I wish to know where hoid's hideout is. -
Secret Societies of Roshar: A Comprehensive Guide
DrakeMarshall replied to Shardcellist's topic in Stormlight Archive
The in-world book Words of Radiance notes that the skybreakers had an almost supernatural sense for divining whether a person was guilty or not. Nobody was quite sure why but it was a very real power. Kind of like how lightweavers were said to have flawless memories, something that Shallan proves to be correct. Their sense of who is guilty may be quite similar to that of nightblood. Nightblood is very well suited to the order of skybreakers, when you think about it. Also, it may be possible that Graves didn't really grasp that Kaladin had actually become a radiant.- 24 replies

theory Voidbringers, the Knights Radiant, and Gavilar
DrakeMarshall replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Perhaps... This would be an interesting motive. Of all the groups, I would guess the ghostbloods would be most likely to entertain such a notion. It seems to me that at least some people actually think that by bringing back the voidbringers, they can return the radiants, though. I mean, Gavilar just sort of casually asked the parshendi if it would be possible to bring back the voidbringers, hence why they wanted him dead. For some reason he thought that there was some kind of good reason to do this. Then, I suppose vin thought she was doing something good at the well of ascension when she released ruin...- 47 replies

Elantrians direct the dor like allomancers direct preservations power. Neither of them actually take it into themselves, they simply funnel it from the shard into a real-world effect, through an Aon or a metal. Surgebinding, on the other hand, involves taking in investiture into oneself and directing it. This is also how awakening works. This is probably why a Seon bond doesn't automatically grant powers on sel. Unless you actually were infused with investiture, this type of bond to a shard would not be very useful. If one took in stormlight, however, they might be able to manifest certain powers. And yes, if somehow they were infused with the Dor, they would probably have access to the same powers. So far I don't think anybody has been able to become infused in this way with the Dor, however. It would probably be easier to worldhop to roshar and breathe in stormlight than it would be to infuse oneself with the Dor on sel. On a random note while comparing magic systems, it is also interesting to note that nalthis awakening is the only type of magic that doesn't require anything but investiture. Both the "funnelling" types of magic (Scadrial and sel magics) require a bond of some kind to the shard. Roshar's surgebinding also requires a bond to the shard, even though the user is hosting the investiture that they channel. But on nalthis, all you need to practice awakening is breath. This either means everybody on nalthis shares a bond with endowment, or that this magic system actually doesn't require any kind of bond to endowment to use.

For that matter, imagine being able to awaken by burning a metal or tapping a metalmind. Or, perhaps the most dangerous: awakening through an aon. Since the investiture comes from the dor, not the user, an elantrian awakener might be able to keep drawing aons and awakening more things.

Interesting. So odium doesn't technically invest itself into any other beings. However, the presence of unmade spren of odium causing the thrill and death rattles and such means that there are beings that can still associate with odium's power (though they might be controlled almost directly by odium's will). I am certain that the voidbringer's forms of power are fueled by odium's investiture, and even if this isn't "voidbinding" it is definitely a sort of magic system made by odium. Note that this magic of odium basically can't be used by anybody, in accessing the power the person is basically controlled by it. This is in line with the nature of odium and how it invests, it would seem.

Interesting thought on boons and hemalurgy. Those conditions sound accurate. The whole end-negative for hemalurgy, end positive for allomancy, end neutral for feruchemy thing probably wasn't a fundamental of how magic systems ought to work. Simply, these were reflections of the shardic intents that powered the magic systems (hemalurgy is end negative because ruin is destructive, et cetera). So there is no particular reason why magic systems on Roshar should follow the same convention, though it isn't impossible that they do. It is also possible that odium's magic system would be end positive. It would also do to consider the fact that allomancy doesn't in fact involve taking any investiture into yourself, just channeling preservation's investiture. So it actually isn't quite the same sort of thing as surgebinding. Surgebinding technically isn't even end positive.

I suspect this would involve using investiture to change the planet's identity. Doing such might even alter what magic systems are present on the planet (evidence for this is the change in Aons that occurred in Elantris). Mind you, it would require somebody very, very powerful to magically alter a planet's identity. Either a shard actively trying to tamper with a planet's identity, or perhaps even a certain worldhopper we know who has been gathering magical powers from different worlds to become quite powerful... I wonder if massively influential ideas, like a huge religion or some other big aspect of culture, could impact a planet's overall identity significantly. Would a large enough change in a world's culture actually alter how investiture works slightly...?

Note that what we know about the "survival shard" is that it wants to stay alive. This could be due to a strong intent towards something like perseverance or hope... But it also could be due to an intent that is more selfish than that. We shall see, I suppose.

Just found this theory. Interesting thought, because this actually could definitely be true. I mean, those visions were basically recorded messages that found Dalinar. They might have found other people. In fact, over the years, it is likely.

I bet you could intuitively use the Aon that is within the Seon, without drawing the symbol yourself. If there was a way for one to actually infuse themselves with investiture, this would make sense. This might clarify a great deal of things to how the nahel bond works, honestly.

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
DrakeMarshall replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
It doesn't matter what you get. That's the question. And the answer is forty two. Ask the scrabble board. -
What is the all three shards one? Do we know of such a system? I am not sure if we can attribute that much power to odium, given how sneaky ruin had to be about manipulating things. I am fairly sure odium whispered in Taravangian's ear on the day of the diagram, but to actually alter Taravangian's blessing seems significantly more difficult. Unless Taravangian shared some kind of bond with odium before this point. Which I find very unlikely. I would bet that the fluctuating empathy was part of nightwatcher's blessing/curse. It would help to better understand the nightwatcher. It is really quite a fascinating feature of the world of Roshar, a being that grants wishes mixed with curses. Quite a few characters allude to various small curses they live with as a result of a visit to nightwatcher. For that matter, I'm not sure we really understand cultivation's intent terrifically well. We can make some good guesses, but very little can be known.

Clever. Yes, I suppose they would at that.

Can a Drab travel in the Cognitive Realm?
DrakeMarshall replied to earthrester's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think you need investiture to worldhop, per se. I don't think it takes any stormlight for an elsecaller, lightweaver, or willshaper to enter shadesmar. Maybe investiture helps you influence the cognitive realm. You might be quite vulnerable without investiture when you entered, which indeed might render a trip dangerous. But I mean a drab still absolutely retains their cognitive self. While there are many superstitions about losing breath like losing your soul, it really only is just a bit of investiture you innately own. It might be useful to have investiture for a variety of reasons (and lacking this bit of investiture weakens the life force and senses of the subject), but it shouldn't render it fundamentally impossible to enter the cognitive realm. Speaking of entering the cognitive realm, has anybody ever discussed what entering the spiritual realm could be like? -
This may be true... I kind of wonder if the parshendi were the original inhabitants of Roshar and then honor and cultivation created humans there. At any rate, it is hard to tell how the shards have invested in the various races. There are "regular humans", parshendi, and aimians, all of which are different species.

First test: 34% truthwatcher 25% skybreaker 19% bondsmith 16% elsecaller 13% willshaper 9% stoneward 5% lightweaver 5% dustbringer 3% edgedancer 0% windrunner Second test: 34% stoneward 31% willshaper 31% skybreaker 25% bondsmith 22% edgedancer 13% windrunner 11% dustbringer 9% truthwatcher 0% lightweaver 0% elsecaller Well some of these jumped around a bit. The three that stayed near the top were skybreaker, willshaper, and bondsmith. Huh. None of these had very high percentages though.

Unknown Shards and Opposition in the Cosmere
DrakeMarshall replied to PallonianFire's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It is certainly true that this could be a shard of adolnasium. Grace is absolutely regarded as a divine attribute. Not sure how a shard of grace would act apart from the context of the others... Would be interesting I bet. Probably one of the nicer shards to meet. -
I would say that such opposing shards probably wouldn't mix. But feruchemy is obvious evidence to the contrary. So at least if odium remained on Roshar long enough... It is probably inevitable that a magic system would arise that had both odium and honor in it.

Unknown Shards and Opposition in the Cosmere
DrakeMarshall replied to PallonianFire's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually that is what I based my claim off of. Sounds like Sanderson is saying that while many shards do have oppositions, there is no formal rule that says they have to. -
Yes well the radiant oaths imply that all surgebinding is tied to honor, even ones that come from nahel bonds with cultivation spren. Not sure how this works, but the presence of oaths denotes this. Honor and cultivation's magic would mingle in some ways, though. I wonder if there is a magic system that is based exclusively on the power of cultivation, or if cultivation's main manifestation of magic is in fact slightly mingled with honor.
