Theory: Last Chapter Stormlight Archive (Mistborn Spoilers)
CaptainRyan replied to zandi's topic in Stormlight Archive
For the sake of clarity, we know that there is a gap of some amount of time between Stormlight Archive book 5 and book 6. The series is a 10-book epic fantasy broken into two parts: 1-5 and 6-10. We do not, as far as I know, have a solid number on how much of a time gap exists between book 5 and 6. -
SPOILERS! ---Does Kaladin like Shallan, and Vice Versa?---
CaptainRyan replied to ChullRider's topic in Stormlight Archive
I can hear Shallan now: "No one murders my family except for me!" -
I agree @Yata, in fact, I wrote up a theory a month or two ago postulating that Adonalsium either became "paralyzed" by its Intents or became too focused on a set of Intents and that this led to the Shattering. My point was that no magic user or even a group of magic users could ever be a true threat to a full Shard, much less Adonalsium. There would have to be mitigating circumstances (Shard is paralyzed, magic users have the help of another Shard etc.). My interpretation of their "cluelessness" is two-fold: 1: They were unbelievably terrified about confronting Ruin because they know they are no match for a Shard and Ruin is a particularly terrifying Shard to catch the attention of. 2: It fit the story and Sanderson did not have the time to more fully flesh out their fear so you just have to accept that a group competent enough to build a fortress in the Cognitive Realm, develop a method of capturing a (Vessel-less) Shard, etc. were so terrified they could not think straight. I, too, think the eighteen most powerful magic users in the Cosmere could wreak serious havoc... on people. A single Shard would obliterate them in moments; especially a Shard with an Intent like Ruin's. As @Oversleep said:

Heads up, in the US at least, they can be a bit pricey. I paid $100 for the Elantris leatherbound but I love it so much! If Brandon sticks to the plan he will do a leatherbound awesome edition of each Cosmere book during its 10th anniversary year.

Welcome to the 17th Shard @tinyedn! WoR is a blast so enjoy! Might I recommend you read Warbreaker after? It has some interesting bits that you might, possibly, find interesting given what you have already read. I hope that does not come across as spoilery haha.

I would probably argue that splinters created after the death of a Vessel have nothing of the Vessel in them; not even memories. We have a WoB that while a Shard is being held by a Vessel the Intent of the Shard is filtered through the Vessel to an extent but once the Vessel is gone the filter is removed. In my opinion it is not implausible to further extrapolate that any influence the Vessel had on the Shard is also removed. My personal head canon for Sazed learning stuff is that he exists, somewhat, in the Spiritual Realm which is not bound by time. As he learns to navigate the Spiritual Realm I bet he can learn stuff from the past in some fashion. Maybe?

Nicrosil Feruchemy and "Bottoming out" an attribute
CaptainRyan replied to Irkutsk's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just a quick question: Are we sure medallion creation requires 100% drop in Identity or does it only require a large enough drop so that the metalmind is keyed to "human" as opposed to "specific human"? -
I think electricity is a decent analogy for Stormlight but I would argue that it is 100% incorrect to say that Stormlight IS electricity.

@Kaelya, welcome to the 17th Shard! You sound like you really get in to the stories which is awesome! Good luck finding a writing group and enjoy the forums! P.S. I upvoted both @Ecthelion III and @Elenion as someone downvoted their comments. I did not think anything they said was egregious or rude so I am confused as to why they were downvoted.

I... huh. I never thought about that. I assume they are barefoot. What form are you doing? If it is warform I would imagine they might have some sort of carapace armor?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
CaptainRyan replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you're being taken to the hospital in an ambulance for crippling back pain but you still manage to pitch Sanderson books to the paramedic. -
I'm not sure there is a need to call people out about it, especially as this is Frost's thread and he was responding to someone who wrote to him. If there is a rules violation of a serious nature I am sure the moderators will handle it.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
CaptainRyan replied to ForGutsAndGlory's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Welcome @ForGutsAndGlory! This is my first forum too. Sanderson's books simply demand more from the reader, eh? From the main forum screen there is a link to the forum rules page. This page really helped me learn the proper forum etiquette. -
Wow! That was so good! I certainly hope this will not be your last contribution! You have some real talent!

IIRC, Brandon has tried to stomp on the idea that there is a "force" out there that opposed Adonalsium. While Brandon did state that once he has, again iirc, elaborated on his previous statement by saying that his answer was based on the massive amount of wiggle room the word "force" gave him. As in, the 16 Vessels could be considered a "force" that "opposed" Adonalsium. If I am correct in my recall then I think that might cut a big hole right through this theory.
