  1. To the first: Thanks! To the second: My theory! Noooooo!
  2. Not to be pushy but is there a WoB on this? IIRC, we do not have an in-book example.
  3. I am a little cloudy on what happens to "true" Radiants when they die. Back before the Recreance, way back in the Shadow Days, if a Radiant died in battle what happened to their blade? Or, to make it more modern, what happens to Syl if Kaladin dies? Perhaps Helaran's spren simply "died" when he did? I know this is a long-shot theory/idea but I cannot help but wonder that there was more to Helaran than Brandon has shown us.
  4. Hmm, perhaps that is the reason. I, too, live in a densely populated area (San Jose, CA) so my wife and I enjoy the same benefit of having most stuff delivered in one day. I am sorry for your loss! Hopefully the backpacking trip will still be a huge success even without the book!
  5. Well, the title of the thread is "Booooks!" haha. Sadly, I have literally read all of those! I guess it shows we have similar taste in books eh? Ah well, I think the original Mistborn trilogy is due for a re-re-re-re-read.
  6. @Pathfinder Oh no haha, I was not clear enough (again). I did not think you were responding to me, I was merely offering my double-live spren suggestion again as it had become relevant to the discussion. You are absolutely right about how living spren could constantly reshape in response to the needs of the user. Off the top of my head the best strats in the following scenarios are: 1) Fighting a large group of regular soldiers: Two "standard" large Claymore-esque Shardblades that could be used to scythe through as many people as quickly as possible. 2) Fighting another Shardbearer Sword & Shield or, perhaps, Spear & Shield would be the best combo. Being able to straight block another Shardweapon with one hand while still dishing out damage with the other is pretty strong imo.
  7. I received an email saying I get release day (June 28th) delivery... hmmm, that is odd. Perhaps you live further from a distribution point?
  8. @Argent, I had similar reservations about Malazan - I just could not get in to it with how vague and confusing things were. I might give the first book of this series you posted a try; I have a $3 Amazon ebook credit at the moment haha. Oh, speaking of that credit, do you have any books you would suggest? I am a big sci-fi and fantasy fan. If you have not read "the Lies of Locke Lamora" then may I humbly suggest giving that a try? It has strong language and a few gritty fight scenes but it also has wonderful characters and a great story. If you do read it then may I also humbly suggest pretending that it is a standalone book? The sequels are all hot garbage.
  9. This was my suggestion if you have two living blades: Sword and shield seems to be the strongest "dual-wield" pairing imo.
  10. I just finished a re-read of "the Way of Kings" and "Words of Radiance" and it made me wonder if Helaran was bonded to a Highspren (Skybreaker spren). I always wondered why Helaran didn't just kill his father. Helaran obviously hated his father and knew his father was treating the rest of the family horribly and he even thought that his father killed his mother... and yet he did nothing. Perhaps because Helaran could not get the proper legal stuff squared away? Perhaps Helaran informed the highprince, the highprince sent his bastard to investigate and when the investigation dead-ended there was nothing a Skybreaker like Helaran could do?
  11. Also, I would argue that we still do not know Hoid's real name. I have a feeling the name he gave his master (the original Hoid) is not the one he was born with. On topic (Liar of Partinel spoilers): They might then decide to Shatter Adonalsium as a desperate act?
  12. @FeatherWriter that was incredibly clever to answer as you think Renarin would! I really like that! I would throw an upvote your way but I have apparently hit my quota for the day even though I just signed on a few minutes ago... Anyone want to help a fellow Sharder out and pass an upvote to Feather for me?
  13. I have never heard of that series @Argent. How was the first book?
  14. Indeed, it is not canon but I think there are, at the very least, hints of what might have occurred. While it is possible Brandon will rewrite the entire Shattering storyline, I am merely speculating with the available information.
  15. I see a little/lot of bit of Wayne in several characters - Lift, Cody and Lopen off the top of my head but I know there are others. Brandon definitely recycles certain traits from time to time. Not to say these characters are carbon copies but rather that they are cut from a similar cloth.
  16. Welcome @Aliroz-The-Confused! Glad to have you! The 17th Shard can be a bit slow between book releases but just wait until a new Sanderson book hits the shelves - it is mayhem for a week or two haha! As @cloudjumper so kindly pointed out, the rules to the site are at the link. Generally, be nice, follow the forum guidelines about where to post and when to use spoiler tags (my personal policy is to error on the side of too many spoiler tags haha) etc.
  17. Welcome @Stranker! Glad to have another fellow Sanderfan on the 17th Shard! One thing that you might like to do now that you have joined the community is browse this: It sets out the rules, policies etc. of the forum. You can learn what the spoiler tag and you can also learn about the different parts of the site. A second thing you might want to know is if anyone offers you cookies on this forum it is a great idea to turn them down - the cookies possess hemalurgic spikes and they will steal from you! Beware!
  18. Well, in the US, summer only officially started on June 20th so if you have read four books already then bravo! In the last month or so, I have read the Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, Elantris 10th Anniversary edition, the Spirit Thief by Rachel Aaron and a Sanderson short (Firstborn). What did you read? Any non-Sanderson recommendations? Also, just a heads up because it seems like you might be new here, but this forum (Introductions) is used for people to, well, introduce themselves. A topic like this might better placed in the "General Discussion" forum. It is not a huge deal but I thought I would let you know so you can start becoming accustomed to the forum policies.
  19. My condolences @frost. That is the one downside of these wonderful, fantastic forums: sometimes we stumble upon something we cannot unsee.
  20. Welcome to the 17th Shard! It is always great when a new person joins the community. Good luck exploring the various theories, storied, ideas and the *shudder* Reckoners RPG.
  21. Not sure if my vote matters but I completely agree. Cosmere Theories is for Hoid. General Brandon discussion is for Hoid v Superman.
  22. I am with @Yata on this one: How do we know the belt was a metalmind? It could just be a decoy item.
  23. I am 99% sure I know what that is but I will respectfully wait for others to have a chance haha
  24. Good points all around and the Truthwatchers are my second guess after Skybreakers for that exact reason.
  25. Ding ding ding! You got it! If you don't mind then it is now your turn to submit a pic of some kind!
