  1. What is a WoB? Actually, could someone explain what all the abbreviations mean? I know WoK and WoR, but I am completely lost on most of the others. Could someone explain of drop a link to a page that already has them?
  2. You know, the best part about the 17th Shard is that this isn't even the strangest thread I've Windrun across (Yeah, totally a David-worthy pun right there). Anyway, I'm looking for a certain High Epic called the Doctor...
  3. Yesss. Weird plot implications. This is Brandon we are talking about, OK? He loves weird plot implications. He would do it, and he would do it with style. There is so much to work with with this theory, he could start a ton of new storylines! Think about it. He could make another Cosmere, where the other entity is God instead of Adonalsium! Another universe! And if there's one, there could be more. He always find ways to astound us. He would do this. And more. Much more.
  4. I never thought about it like that. That would mean that he would be eligible for every magic system. I wonder if there is anyone else like him. And by like him I mean is there anyone else left that was alive back then. If Hoid (Midius, not the old Hoid) survived than some other people probably could too. Edit: Every magic system but AonDor, apparently. Not sure about the other parts of the Dor
  5. Does anybody else think it's suspicious that nearly every magic system has strange symbols that represent the different abilities? Maybe Glyphs and... whatever the Mistborn symbols are called are like Aons.
  6. Glyphs and Aons. Any connections, you think?
  7. He also may have become something less. He wouldn't have the power of a Shard, but he would have become immortal, and been able to worldhop easier than most people, as well as being more receptive to magic in a way that allows him to gain and use it easier. His soul would have been altered, but it wouldn't be made from it, as he already had one before he held it.
  8. His DNA is of Adonalsium? What do you mean?
  9. Yeah, I know, but I still can't see Hoid stealing powers from people who have no idea what they are doing when they unWittingly (heh heh, get it? Hoid is Wit, unWittingly?) give him their powers. Plus, he probably wouldn't be able to find many people who could use Feruchemy outside of Scadrial unless aluminum and nicrosil can be used by anyone (can they?). "That was a horrible pun and you know it." "Yeah, I know (sigh)."
  10. It's possible, but I suspect that it's something else. That seems a little too obvious for Brandon. It's probably something else, something unique to Hoid. After all, Brandon said he started out as a human, but had changed enough for him to say "It's complicated," when pressed further on the subject.
  11. Speaking of Hoid's powers, how does he have so many? Most of them are supposed to be given randomly, but he has failed only at becoming an Elantrian. How is it possible for one man to gather so many powers, even though it shouldn't be possible to give them to yourself through alternate means than being chosen for them randomly (excluding Allomancy because of Lerasium and his version of Lightweaving? "So you're finally talking about Hoid again? Took you long enough." "Al'Viran?" "What?" "Stop talking."
  12. Yes, but Allomancy was probably influenced by Ruin as well. Ruin and Preservation shared Allomancy, Ruin had Hemalurgy and Preservation had Feruchemy. Also, I said it was influenced by the Shard's Intent, not created to line up with it completely.
  13. Actually, it could be said that it is the most Invested world because it was created by the Shards.
  14. Hoid does have ulterior motives and is willing to do anything for them, but he seems to be doing it in a way that avoids causing any more harm than is absolutely neccisary, and he seems to believe that everything he does is for the good of the Cosmere, not just for himself Odium may also be Splintering Shards because he is afraid that Adonalsium will be reformed and he will lose his power when it happens
  15. Actually, yes I did mean his magic system on Braize. It's always something that's in line with the Shard's Intent, so that's at least one thing we have to go on. "Shards, Adonalsium, worlds, spren. That's all you ever talk about! I don't even know what half of it means! Can you please talk about something I like? Like destroying evil? Or Hoid? I like that guy." "I know you like him. You say it every time we see someone that looks like him." "So why won't you talk about him?" "Because this is the wrong place for that. I created a place for it, but this isn't it." "So? Why does that matter?" "It just does." "Not to me." "You wouldn't understand. Anyway, we should stop talking about this. People are starting to stare. All they see is a guy talking to a sword. Not to mention the fact that there's the "That guy has a freaking sword" factor." "I don't care. I want to talk about Hoid! Wait, wha-no, don't put me in the backpack! No, wait, don't put me in there, plea-." "There, that's better."
  16. Same question as the title: What would Odium's magic system be? We can safely assume that the magic system is influenced by the Shard's Intent, so it would most likely be something destructive. Edit: I mean what would his magic system be on Braize.
  17. What is your favorite anime and why
  18. Brandon only said that not all Shards have "perfect" counterparts like Ruin and Preservation. Anyone else notice that?
  19. Personally, I think that Roshar's focus is gemstones. They are used in favelas, they store Investure, and not all types of gemstones hold Stormlight(hmm... Just like how some metals aren't allomantic. Similar, wouldn't you say?), and Spren can be bonded to them.
  20. What if the force opposing Adonalsium was another entity like Adonalsium? The reason they shattered would also be explained by this. Ruin and Preservation were dispersed and didn't Shatter when they "fought,"but that could just be because they were from the same origin, so maybe when Adonalsium and the opposing entity, who could have come from completely different origins, Shattered when they "fought," instead of just dispersing like Ruin and Preservation did... Or maybe Adonalsium is a Shard of a larger entity and so was the opposing entity, which is unlikely, though I wouldn't put it past Brandon. "I think you talk too much." "I apologize on behalf of my sword, who (unfortunately) spent his first few hours with Hoid in the room, and he gained a few bad habits from him." "HEY!"
  21. My first Brandon Sanderson book was the first Wheel of Time book he wrote. I later stumbled across Steelheart almost by accident and remembered those three books, so I checked out some of his other books and read the Way of Kings. That was about when he became my favorite author, taking the prize from Robert Jorden. My favorite book was Words of Radiance. Edit: Actually, I think the first books I read were the first and second Alcatraz books, but I forgot about them because they are so different from his usual writing style.
  22. Well of course it wouldn't be the exact same way, but it would be quite similar. And it seems that everyone is assuming Odium is the straight foreward brute force type. Did we ever get confirmation that Odium isn't a strategic manipulator too? It would be much easier to manipulate Taravangian through the Diagram than his boon/curse. The effects of the boon/curse are probably similar to the effects of a hemalurgic spike: take something and give something back. Preservation couldn't change the effects of the hemalurgic spike on Vin, so maybe Shards can't interfere with the effects of another Shard's Investure on a person. Preservation was weak at the time though, so maybe it's just really hard to do. Even so, that doesn't change the fact that it would be easier to change the Diagram instead of Taravangian himself.
