Brandon Sanderson once tried to write a bad book just for fun. He failed.
-
In my original post I said it was Balance. Balance is a big theme in both shows and I thought it was appropriate.

Maybe they are heavily invested beings and can only exist and function because of that like greatshells (they have special spren that prevent them from being crushed under their own weight), only sentient and much more intelligent. They can not only use the magic system itself, they can also manipulate the raw power of investiture (energybending) and can rewrite peoples sDNA to become benders (spiritbending). Kind of like Hemalurgy, but much gentler and with less side-effects.

Not exactly. The shard on that world has been splintered by Odium into individual spirits (like how Honor was splintered into honorspren) and the avatar has a very strong bond with one of the more powerful splinters: Raava. I guess it would similar to the nahel bond but stronger and much more enduring. I mean it lasts through multiple incarnations!Any other ideas for this world? I'd love to discuss it!

Small Uses for Magic Systems
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to KaIadin's topic in General Brandon Discussion
True. But compounders would have a much easier time of it because regular feruchemists would have to spend days or even weeks in a weakened state while the compounder would be able to do it in a fraction of the time. Also I didn't think of the koloss-blooded advantage. Nice. -

It just occured to me that a pewter compounder could cosplay very accurately as the hulk. -
Aslydin- the mysterious worldhopping Terriswoman?
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to Pinnacle-Ferring's topic in Mistborn
Thanks. Good to know. -
So I don't know if this has already been covered, but this is something I just realized. At the end of HoA Demoux is shown to have a love interest, a Terriswoman named Aslydin. Now, as we know, Demoux is a worldhopper and a member of the Seventeenth Shard. I just saw an AMA where someone asked Brandon what happened to her and he said that she was also working in the Seventeenth Shard and that "the ethnicity of the name should strike you." Could Aslydin be the Terriswoman worldhopper from Warbreaker that Brandon mentioned a while back? Again, sorry if this has already been brought up/resolved. If not, please discuss!

I grew up bilingual. I can speak English and Hebrew fluently. I know a smattering of words from other Latin-based languages i.e. French, German, etc. and I can sometimes puzzle out some text, but when I hear them spoken I usually can't make out heads or tails of it. Edit- I guess I can also say that I know basic Aramaic. I'm a religious Jew and I always like to say that Aramaic is to Judaism like Latin is to Catholicism. It just comes with the package I guess.

I have the power to eavesdrop on any conversation in the house no matter where it is and either hear it perfectly or figure out what it's about from the tone. It comes in handy when my parents are discussing me.

Sharder's Stalking Guide (a.k.a. Geo Tracking 2.0)

Sorry, newbie here. What exactly is this for? -
I had an interesting idea. Avatar the Last Airbender is cosmere. The Shard there is Balance and, unfortunately, was splintered by Odium. That's where the spirits come from. The spirit world is obviously the Spiritual Realm and can be entered by entering a certain mindset, similar to how Jasnah and Shallan enter Shadesmar (the Cognitive Realm). This also explains why we can find spirits of people in the spirit world as well (Iroh is a cognitive shadow like Kelsier!) Because bending is primarily Physical and Mental in nature, it is ineffective in the Spiritual Realm. Another way to enter the Spiritual Realm is to enter it physically through the spirit portals. I had a lot of trouble figuring out what they would correspond to. The best I could figure is that they're some sort of shardpools. I don't know much about them, personally. If someone else knows more about how they work, please feel free to give your own interpretation. The Avatar is an individual who has formed a Spiritual bond with one of the most powerful of Balance's splinters: Raava. The bond is so powerful that it trancends lifetimes and is passed on to his future incarnations. The opposite, yet equally powerful splinter is Vaatu, who tries to undermine the avatar at any chance he gets. Please tell me what you think and feel free to disagree or add different interpretations and perspectives. Edit- fixed grammar and spelling.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you get irrationally angry about something really stupid and you wonder whether there is a Rioter hiding in your closet. When you wish that you could hire a Slider to create a time bubble to let you sleep in without losing time. -
We don't know if a sacrifice is necessary or not. If we assume that it is though, it could be an interesting story.
-
While reading this I thought of an interesting story concept. Say in the far future of Scadrial kandra and humans coexist peacefully. There is a kandra-human couple, but the human needs an organ transplant and they can't find a donor. So the kandra sacrifices their life in order to become the organ that the human needs. It's a bit of a strange story, but I think it has dramatic potential. What do you guys think?

The Heralds went to the Nightwatcher
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to ChickenPlague's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, now that I've thought a bit more about it, I'm going to revise my opinion. I don't think the banes have to be mental necessarily, but have to be impossible to remove through normal means. It can't let the recipient wiggle out of it like your hypothetical person who lost all of their money. That is a temporary problem that can be fixed, the other banes can't.- 11 replies

The Heralds went to the Nightwatcher
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to ChickenPlague's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think the Nightwatcher works like that. Every bane we've seen so far was something mental: forgetting your wife, seeing the world upside-down, varying levels of intelligence. That way it's impossible to "wiggle out" of them. Bottom line, we don't know enough about the Nightwatcher to prove or disprove this theory.- 11 replies

The Heralds went to the Nightwatcher
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to ChickenPlague's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think the Nightwatcher was involved. Think about how the Heralds were able to break their Oathpact and still remain immortal. It doesn't make sense when you compare it to other cases of the Nightwatcher's work. It's like they got rid of the bane, but kept the boon.- 11 replies

Hello! Would you like to destroy some evil today?
Pinnacle-Ferring replied to Pinnacle-Ferring's topic in Introduce Yourself!
I actually don't think Hoid is the Doctor. My main piece of evidence to back this up is Hoid's(Wit's) line in WoR (or WoK I'm not sure) to Dalinar about letting this world burn to get what he wants, that is not the Doctor speaking, I'm certain of it. -

Pinnacle-Ferring replied to Pinnacle-Ferring's topic in Introduce Yourself!
What a coincidence! I literally just finished rewatching series 8.Also, it's totally cosmere. I have a headcanon that the Doctor and Hoid are mortal frenemies. It's a complicated relationship.
