  1. I still think that Hoid's plan is to try to get Nightblood to kill Odium, but the good guys in SA will balk and try to "banish" Odium instead, thinking him indestructible, which will either force Hoid to "burn" Roshar by stopping them to keep Odium trapped (which screws Roshar over royally but may save the Cosmere or see him fail to do and Odium escaping, being the decoy villain for SA which takes things from there with a new antagonist or a desperate last fight as a no-longer bound Odium decides to go for Cultivation first before heading after other Shards, giving them one last chance in SA part 2
  2. If Hoid did have his own version of Feruchemy without the use of medallions etc, I think it's possible that he enabled the original Terris people to use it. Feruchemy is linked with the Worldbringers who are linked to the Worldsingers on Roshar that Hoid was the master of at least one member of, and I think of the order. There was a RAFO as to whether Hoid started both groups, and if he started the Worldbringers AND has Feruchemy, it seems unlikely that he neither taught/gave it to them or learnt it from them Other than that, I suspect that burning Atium and Lerasium together, or an alloy of the two, could potentially endow one with Feruchemy, as could, I think, going Atium savant like maybe (though less likely)
  3. Are Shards known to be unaffected by Allomancy? I mean, I assume they aren't metal, but that's supposition, no? And even then all it takes is one Lord Ruler mark 2 and that's pretty much a god on the field, can't really see anyone short of Vessel level beating a prepared and determined Full Compounder, especially as they would be even more overpowered now with compounded luck and investiture and the likely means to soulcast rare metals and the new use of bendalloy time bubbles, duralumin bursts, nicrosil for all their allies, the potential for nicrosil and chromium to work on Stormlight (who knows/), EttMetal objects and then when they inevitably kill a herald and get their honorblades it gets even nastier
  4. I assume if the Scadrians were invading Roshar, they'd have some knowledge of the planet, most invading forces would send scouts or spies first. Once you know about them, Highstorms can be protected against fairly easily, I think
  5. First thing I had read by him (had heard of him as an author but never gotten around to reading his books) was when he finished Wheel of Time and got the somewhat meandering story back on track with impressive verve, and captured all the voices well (except Mat. He really couldn't do Mat). I was impressed, and really enjoyed the Gathering Storm but was busy and didn't have time to start many new series, though the Towers of Midnight impressed me too. Then my brother bought me Way of Kings part 1 for Christmas and I was really impressed. I read part 2 and invested in the SA, getting WoR as soon as it came out on my iPhone, was further encouraged by its quality and the short Silence/Threnody story, and then eventually got around to reading TFE which was more clumsily written (I think he has grown hugely as a writer since, SA is superior prose) But had great concepts and a couple of fantastic characters. I read Well of Ascension too fast and thought it was better on some ways but worse in others. Then I read Alloy of Law which was fun but overhyped. Then its sequels, which were better, as they came out, then Well of Ascension again properly and I decided it was a much better book that I gave it credit for and a much better book than TFE. I finally read Hero of Ages and thought it was thrilling a few days ago. secret history next
  6. Would Harmony get involved? Also, if they manage to recreate Mistborn, we have seen how lethal a strong, skilled Mistborn is in Vin. But the biggest difference for me is that right now Scadrial have a ranged weapon AND ranged magic advantage, which history tells us is huge (I'd argue only disease and immunity plays a bigger part in conquering nations). They can also probably hack the Roshar magic system. Bullets won't do much against Plate individually but enough of them certainly will. Can only see one winner until Roshar catch up both in terms of magic but also technology, though once they do real shard blades (spren) and Surgebinding Fabrials could turn the tide and Stormlight powers are more flexible than metals- stormlight itself basically gives you F Gold and A Pewter and maybe some F Zinc and Steel automatically before even using specific powers
  7. Doesn't the rest of that WOB quote pose SERIOUS questions for SoS? Or could someone intentionally invest specifically in a God Metal and bypass Brandon's implication here?
  8. Got to agree- I think Mistborn could work as a 5-6 X11.5h episode per book miniseries but Stormlight would need to be a long long series and with the sheer alien nature of the world and the magic system i can only really see animated series working. Would also make a wicked game. Always thought Wax and Wayne would make a great game too, Red Dead Redemption basic model, have them in their law-man days as the story, with a multiplayer in which each player gets randomly either one Allomatic or Feruchemical (or either or both, minus compounding) ability and you can play all against all or in teams to see how they all interact. I've put some thought into it actually, mostly on long journeys like this one. (original Trilogy is harder as I can't see how you'd satisfactorily give the player full Mistborn powers and have them happy with the scope of them, given how complex they can all be. Mixing multiple metals just wouldn't be possible given the limitations of any controls including key boards in real time)
  9. The full work of the Amateur Transplants
  10. Frankly the sexuality of most characters in Mistborn don't matter- many of them could be gay, but how would we find out, especially when Sanderson isn't comfortable writing sexually charged scenes?
  11. Not everything is about combat- Saze wasn't expecting to fight himself and getting to Luthadel was a priority for him. Without the retrospectoscope, I don't see that you can say Saze wasted his Steel
  12. Original Trilogy: all British accents Kelsier - James Purefoy Vin - Dakota Blue Richards or someone new Dockson - Rowan Atkinson Breeze - Stephen Fry Ham - Michael Socha Marsh- Mark Strong Spook - Isaac Hempstead Wright Clubs - Sean Connery Elend - Max Irons or someone new Straff Venture - Jeremy Irons Shan Elariel - Jessica Findlay Brown Lord Renoux - Hugh Lawrie Sazed - Benedict Cumberbatch Lord Ruler - Tom Hiddlestone Ruin - Damien Lewis Preservation - Damian Molony Hoid - David Tennant Original Trilogy: all British accents Kelsier - James Purefoy (I also like NCW) Vin - Dakota Blue Richards or someone new Dockson - Rowan Atkinson Breeze - Stephen Fry Ham - Michael Socha Marsh- Mark Strong Spook - Isaac Hempstead Wright (might be too young with a Vin over 20...) Clubs - Sean Connery Elend - Max Irons or someone completely new Straff Venture - Jeremy Irons Shan Elariel - Jessica Findlay Brown Lord Renoux - Hugh Lawrie Sazed - Benedict Cumberbatch Lord Ruler - Tom Hiddlestone Ruin - Alan Tudyk Preservation - Damian Molony Hoid - David Tennant? Zane - Ben Barnes or Max Irons if Elend is a newbie Tindwyl- Tilda Swinton Alliane- interesting different role for Sophie Turner? Or Ella Purnell? Cett- Billy Connolly Penrod- Anthony Head TenSoon- Charles Dance Yomen- Idris Elba Quellion- Charlie Cox Berdre- Alicia Vikander Wax and Wayne: American accents - on its way
  13. Actually finished Hero of Ages, having read all the other (non-SH) Mistborn books. Don't worry, spoilers don't bother me. Was a good book
  14. I was going to say: what's wrong with childishness? People have a strange habit of mixing up adult and mature, in my opinion, as an adult. I'd rather people didn't use "childish" when "immature" would be more apt. And we all need to be childish and possibly even immature from time to time. I like interacting with people of all ages- different generations and cultures and social classes and different PEOPLE in the end give you a perspective that you might never have reached without them. One may not agree with it, but it always broadens one's experience and we see how differently things from these novels etc can be taken, how life colours art and sometimes we find something profound from the new angles
  15. Let's be honest, basically any Compounder is pretty daunting!
  16. What is actually impossible though? Most of the laws of physics revolve around probability being highly predictable (essentially 100% predictable) with very high numbers. With enough "luck" in theory entropy itself no longer becomes a law
  17. Can't pick Lerasium to be a Mistborn, or for its direct F/A uses then or as a compound to be a misting in one of the other metals without using it? If we can, compounding is easy! If I can't cheat like that, I'd still like the mystery quality of F Lerasium but for now I'll ignore it: Haemalurgy would be useful but I just can't accept the way you get power with it. So just A and F for me. A Atium- future sight handy even if Atium is at a premium. Have it just in case A Duralumin- this is tough, as Allomatic Duralumin is a bit of a gamebreaker in the original series. However, I think that having Feruchemical Nicrosil and Duralumin together would let you basically tap any magic system. However, I suspect to do that in a meaningful amount, one would probably have to be a compounder in at least one, and as I can't do that without Lerasium, medallions or haemalurgy, I'll go for the tried and tested power. F- Gold- ability to store health useful for anyone. A - Tin. Much easier to use and an easy to find metal F - Zinc. Storing a burst of mental ability would be invaluable A- Bronze. Would be very useful in a world with few Mistborn, and even with copperclouds, I have A Duralumin. A - Copper. My memory is quite good anyway, and A Copper is always handy just in case A - Brass. Only need one of the mental push/pulling powers, as you can do the same with either- I'll take Brass as I'm already using Zinc A- Bendalloy. Time bubbles always useful. Also might help me fill my Steelminds whilst functioning A- Cadmium. I think A Cadmium is pretty useful in certain situations, for example tending a wounded person F- Steel. A stored up burst of F Steel, though hard to fill, would be useful in almost any situation, though A Steel is also very cool and multipurpose. A - Iron. Less ideal than A Steel but gives some of the perks as so is a compensation prize. F- Chromium. I think both Chromium powers are great but tapping luck could be a gamebreaker. A - Pewter. As it's cheap, makes sense to use a free source of strength rather than store it up. F- Nicrosil. I think A Nicrosil is pretty awesome too, but F Nicrosil would be a great way to store powers in case of an emergency and also possibly help others with medallions. F - Aluminium. It's a tough one between this and the 2 Electrums. However, I'm already pretty determined and think being able to be sure of yourself might be very useful in times of crisis, maybe more so than determination, and could have the added benefit of protecting me against possible possession by a god etc. A Electrum could help if there were Atium users about, but I have access to Atium use too and we know Vin's clever trick to beat Atium (actually, I think if you were filling a Duraluminmind or maybe Aluminiummind or Electrummind, through differing mechanics it might be possible to make Atium unable to read your future). Even if I use the ones I haven't picked, I think you can combine powers in a fancy way. I actually think with access to other powers, they are all useful except maybe A Alluminium I am very tempted to switch Duralumin for Feruchemical and try to hack other worlds' magic though. And sad not to have copperminds. And VERY tempted not to switch both my Iron and Steel around
  18. I really really enjoyed Well of Acenscion, thought it was interesting to examine the consequences of the rebellion succeeding and the difficulties in Vin and Elend's relationship. Thought it was better than The Final Empire
  19. Chromium Ferring would be fun- like Matt Cauthon but having to choose when to have bad luck
  20. Though in all fairness, Szeth is marginally less of a game breaker than Ezio with a decent dagger
  21. Was just thinking that's how a cadmium burner would be playable in a Wax and Wayne era based Mistborn game
  22. Like a robot following Asimov's laws?Edit; sorry for the double post
  23. I think, in SA anyway, Hoid is worried that Odium will be set free, either himself by winning or by the heroes when they cannot destroy him and drive him away. Hoid will stop that from happening, and may be seen to doom Roshar in doing so and so is a "villain" in a way in the end of the first half of that Series (the letting the world burn that he alluded to, with Odium continuing to ravage Roahar) but a good figure for the Cosmere as a whole
  24. Isn't the perk an interaction between the two abilities? I don't see how the Allomatic Gold has an influence on his pain or lack thereof. And it's easily explained by his healing alone: pain is the body's indicator of damage to make you avoid harm in the future or protect the damaged body part or get away from the damaging stimulus or at least know something is wrong. Miles' body has no need of this whatsoever and may heal so quickly that the damage doesn't register for long enough to be interpreted as pain by Miles' brain. Miles doesn't have pain because he doesn't need it, in my opinion. I'd also say that for all homogenous Twinborn, their perk is inherently Compounding and the effects of that.
  25. Alloy of Law is from a quote by Miles- he know longer serves the Law but an Alloy blended with True Justice, in his mind. But actually, it's Wax and Wayne who serve that, even more than they do Harmony. They break the Law when it's the right thing but generally align with it and work within its bounds, accepting that raw Justice, unalloyed, is too subjective and open to misinterpretation and abuse (like Miles') whereas pure Law is too fettered and sometimes does not allow for what is right, it's too objective when actual morality is not. It is the Alloy that they serve
