  1. We know from previous books featuring Thaidakar (I am avoiding his real name in case some people haven't read the other books featuring him) that he likes to have people worshipping him. And then I started thinking about this quote from Mraize, during his last communication with Shallan in RoW:

    Quote

"He comes here in avatar only" Mraize said. "We are too far beneath his level to be worthy of more."

This does, at least to me, remind of how many religious people speak of interacting with God: in terms of not being worthy. Now, I realize this isn't much to go by, and Mraizes choice of words do not have to mean that he is worshipping Thaidakar. But, I still feel that it is an interesting thought.

For RoW fans correctly predicted Navani binding the Sibling, Kaladin swearing the fourth ideal and the content of the fourth ideal.

Fair enough, although the Kaladin stuff was pretty strongly hinted at, and Navani was the natural fit for a spren focused on the science of Urithiru. No one predicted Moash killing Teft, Restares being Kalak, Rayse dying by Taravangian with Nightblood, or the main plot being the occupation of Urithiru though, which were all way more shocking to me.

I want The Lopen added to Smash!

He’d be way too OP

On a more serious note, I really hope they add someone from Warcraft or League of Legends. Both has awesome fantasy characters. I’d love to have Arthas Menethil or Sylas for example. That could be cool, and both are huge, iconic games.

I’d love a FE-character who isn’t the player avatar too. Edelgard, Claude, Anna, Dimitri, Saber, etc. There are tons of cool options there.

Also, I will always hope for Palpitoad. Never gonna happen though.

I got into Skyward just fine, but the second one was a disappointment.  The "big twist" that

      Reveal hidden contents

    Doomslug was the hyperdrive

was obvious from the very beginning of the book even if you hadn't guessed it already from the end of the last one, and the confrontation with the scary aliens at the end was the exact same resolution we already got at the end of Calamity.  So I was like, "we put off The Lost Metal for two years for this?!?"  And now it's looking like it could well be another two years!

And The Lost Metal is the #1 highest-priority book I want to see from him.  After the scene at the end of Bands of Mourning left us all in anticipation, I wanted to see that even more than Rhythm of War!  And now it seems to be behind everything in terms of priorities.  That just... really bugs me.

It will be written in like, spring-summer 2021, which is not terribly far away. The thing that I find wierd is that it is slotted for release late 2022. If he has it finished by July, why wait one and a half year to publish? I get that the publisher might need a bunch of extra months, but they can usually release Stormlight, which is three times the size of Mistborn in about a year after Brandon finishes the writing of the first draft. So Mistborn actually taking longer to go from first draft to actual book is what bugs me. Anyone who knows a reasonable explanation for this? Knowing Brandon, there is one, but I'd like to know what it is.

As for Starsight, we have to be happy that Brandon is actually as productive as he is. He generally writes more than one book a year, which is a lot more than most of his contemporary authors, especially other heavyweights like Martin. If he feels that he needs to do Skyward before Mistborn, then that is the best thing, even if waiting sucks.

Wait what? Is that actually how it's meant to be pronounced? That's terrible..

Yup, Brandon has mentioned this multiple times. Has to do with France being an inspiration for names in Mistborn. But Brandon doesn't say Kel-see-ay either, so that is mostly how he imagines that the people in-world would say it.

Personally, given that english isn't my native language, I probably pronounce a lot of names somewhat differently.

Argh!  Why?  We've been waiting way too long for The Lost Metal already (remember, two Stormlight books have come out since we got Bands of Mourning!) because Starsight displaced the time Brandon would have worked on it... and now that RoW is over, next on deck is yet another Skyward book?!?

I get this, especially since I couldn't get into Skyward. But it has to do with his different publishers, and also with him needing to take breaks and do different things. I'd rather wait a little longer for Lost Metal than have a burned-out Brandon.

Otherwise, I guess that the bad thing about "Stormlight years" is that State isn't as exciting, since Brandon hasn't had as much time for side-projects. Still, cool to know about the audiobooks he is planning. And I hope he manages to get Apocalypse Guard going, since the thing Dan Wells read from it was hilarious. I'm really hyped for that book.

  7. I have been playing a lot of Smash today and yesterday with Sephiroth now being in the game. I have never played his FF-games (my only FF experience is two hours of the MMO). But I nontheless find Sephiroth a lot of fun, definitely more my kind of character than Steve and Min Min.

That said, anyone having any guesses on which characters will get the remaining three DLC-spots for Smash? I know popular ones are Master Chief, Dante, a Pokemon from Sun/Moon, and of course, Waluigi. But what do you think, and also, what would your dream character be?

I also made a poll, with (mostly) serious and popular alternatives.

  8. Episode 8 spoilers:

    Spoiler

I was believe it or not, a little disappointed. Sure, seeing Luke was cool, but his face was a little uncanny valley, and I have never been a huge fan of him in the first place. But I was hoping for a bit more, like Thrawn, or Sabine, or a major death or something. The rescue operation and attacking Gideons cruiser felt too easy, and Gideon felt a bit too lame. Sure, Esposito was great, but he felt a bit overhyped considering how easy it was to take him down.

Very cool set-up though. Din vs Bo-Katan and Bobas Syndicate will be awesome. And I do wonder where they will go with Gideon in Season 3, considering he is still around.

  9. Now that the Diagram is disbanded, and Taravangian is Ascended, so what (if any) role will the Diagram/Kharbranth faction play now. Are characters like Malata, Adro, Mrall or Danlan still going to be relevant? Will Taravangian still attempt to use them as his minions?

How will Roshar change? Regardless of who wins the contest, Odium will be bound to Roshar, hostilities will end and the Everstorm will continue (which means the Fused can be reborn without Odium's help). The only issues are ownership of Alethkat, Herdaz and Dalinar's soul.

If El is not Odium's champion, he doesn't need to survive anything. The most he has to do is to move from Kholinar to Kasitor or Vedenar.

I doubt it will be this easy. It's a Brandon book, and it won't go as we expect.

  11. I hope not. Moash is the most villanious character in the series. He is more of a villain than Sadeas, Amaram, even Rayse. The only one who comes close is Taravangian. And having Moash go through a redemption arc would be too predictable, too much of a "been there, done that" arc, and require too much time. He is much more interesting as the guy who constantly, despite having better options, chose to turn away from everything that the Radiants represent. The guy is the perfect anti-Radiant.

Maybe what Ookla said is correct, Chana would have a mental illness tied to "obedience." Perhaps she became obedient to Nale or one of his acolytes, to the point that she was willing to kill her own daughter to do what he wanted. I also don't think Nale would really care if Chana's soul was trapped.

If Chana was obedient to a fault though, Nale would definitely care about recovering her. He went to great lenghts to get Szeth because Szeths obedience made him a great Skybreaker. Chana would be similar in that aspect. And the Heralds madness doesn't stop them from caring for eachother (which we see with Ash and Taln), and so I doubt that Nale would leave Chana to her fate, after spending literally thousands of years working with her to stop Desolations.

Edit: Also, the madness of the Heralds seems to be manifesting in opposite ways to their original traits. Ishar, who used to be pious and guinding, is now claiming that he is a god, and only seeks to gain glory for himself, instead of advicing others. Jezrien, who used to lead, became a drunk and a beggar. Nale, who is supposed to be confident, now seems to rely solely upon the will or advice of others. Ash, honest and creative, spends her time destroying art under false identity. And Kalak, who is supposed to be resolute, is... well, not very resolute at all. So Chana would more likely be a coward or some kind of disobedient anarchist.

I understand that it is very far-fetched, which I the major reason why I didn't bother making a thread about it, but once I saw this related thread, I felt like I might as well mention it.

There are ways to explain some of the inconsistencies, but too many of them add up to a bad theory. In regards to your issue, remember, Shallan has lightweaving powers. It is possible that she could have been unconsciously changing her appearance the entire series. Plus, her flashbacks could be some form of lie (she is a great liar after all) or/and could have even have been lightweaving then and maybe wasn't even really a child back then. Like I said, it is far-fetched and raises many other questions that make the theory seem invalid.

Yeah, all theories are worth posting, no matter how good they are. We are here to discuss after all.

And sure, she could have used Lightweaving, but like you yourself is saying, there are too many question-marks around it to make it feel plausible.

  14. I think that there are two likely explanations for "the ten final days":

    1. El survives the Contest, champion or not, and Roshar is changed forever by the result of the Contest. Thus, it would be the "final ten days" of the current Rosharan world order, and El names his book in the aftermath of writing it (which means after the Contest).

    2. El assumes that this will be the Final Ten Days of Roshar as it currently is, and names the book based on that guess.

  15. There has been a bunch of Chana-hunts over the years. The most popular theory is that she is Liss, the assassin Jasnah employs at the start of WoR. I personally think that she is Vedel, if she is a Herald at all. Another theory that popped up was that she was the prostitute Adolin saved in WoK. I have never seen that theory that she is Shallans mother though. It is interesting, but I doubt that would be the case. Partially because Shallans mother seems to be affiliated with the Skybreakers, and thus presumably known to Nale. And Nale might be insane, but I doubt that he would leave Chana/another Herald trapped in a safe in Lin Davars home.

Furthermore, Heralds are physical manifestations of cognitive shadows. I don't know if they can have children.

    9 hours ago, HoidvsVoid said:

I was thinking of something similar a couple of days ago, but was thinking that maybe Shallan herself was the herald Chanaranach.

If this was the case, Jasnah would have recognized Challan based on Hoids drawings. And we would also have to explain why Challan appeared as a ten year old girl, when her real appearance seems to be somewhere in the 25-35 range based on the art that we have.

  16. First off, the Ghostbloods really aren't a crappy organization. They appear to actually know how to find Yolen, which I think not even Khriss has figured out. They have also assassinated several highprinces and would have had Jasnah killed if she hadn't been able to teleport. Add in that know much more about what is going on on Roshar than any of our main cast of characters except Hoid, Taravangian and maaaybe Jasnah. The Ghostbloods are defenitely the most powerful and dangerous of the secret societies, which does say something, considering that both The Diagram and the Skybreakers have a record of getting stuff done.

And the black-marketeering of investiture is probably not their endgame. It does make sense for Kelsier as a sub-goal however. He is a thief, and knows first-hand the importance of resources and monopoly when it comes to achieving power. Plus, Kelsier would black-market stuff just for shits and giggles. He likes being the genius who plans ahead, he likes dealing with criminal elements, he enjoys being the scoundrel and the rogue.

So yes, it does defenitely make sense for Kelsier to be running the Ghostbloods.

    8 hours ago, the_archduke said:

I also think we are forgetting how much of a cremling Kelsier was.  He is a murderer and a sociopath.  He was only a hero because the villains on Scadrial were worse.  Nothing the ghostbloods have done is remotely out of character for Kelsier.  He is ruthless and always had a God- complex.   His redeeming quality is that he wants to keep "his" people safe, and we have been emotionally invested in his people.

I do however disagree with this statement. Kelsier is not a straight-up villain. He has the capacity to care for people. Sure, he fought the Lord Ruler to show off, and to be worshipped, but also because he genuinely loved Mare and wanted a world in which her dreams would be realized. He genuinely loved Vin, since he saved Elend, a noble, for her sake. He genuinely cared for his brother, and for the skaa who were slaughtered. So no, Kelsier isn't a villain, but he isn't a hero either. He is in between, which is what makes him so fascinating in the first place.

In Memorium of the Interludes we have lost, I hold up a glass and Axies you a collective question, If you had to make Ellista all of your favorite Inerludes, could you have Rysn to this challenge? Lift your glass with me Kaza I have a Teft time drinking alone, and though Ym starting to drift in my thoughts, don't worry I'll get Baxil to the point way before you say what Zahel is this all leading to. As I was saying, and I'm not Lhan when I say this, the Interludes from Stormlight Archive have Szeth the bar very high, and I am not Pulli-ing your leg when I'm Adin the fact that I think Brandon will come back to the wider scoped interlude, because Hesina the fact that we love them dearly.
