  1. Tefts death is like Yondus in Guardians of the Galaxy. I am sad that it happened, but I would have been disappointed if it hadn't happened. Someone needed to die for the stakes to feel high, and for Kaladins arc to work. So had Brandon just dodged that bullet (or, rather, had Brandon allowed Teft to doge the bullet) the story would have suffered, and had less of an impact. I was rooting for both Teft and Yondu to die for that reason: because I want the story to impact me. But I am sad that those characters won't be around for more adventures.

Teft got a great send-off though. I hope we get to see Kaladin and Bridge 4 visit him in the hall of dead KRs.

  2. Brandon defenitely needs to go more in-depth on Kalak as Restares, because both the enslavement of Kaladin, the hunt for Urithiru, and the attempts to bring back the Desolations, are not at all something that feels in character for Kalak. Either there is more to him than there seems to be, or there was another Restares earlier, and Kalak took his place after he died, for some reason.

It still doesn't make sense though. I can't really think of a viable reason for Kalak to want to lead the Sons of Honor.

  3. I honestly believed that Pattern was evil for a while there, and that made his dialogue shift for me. Suddenly all the wierd things he said felt more alien and scary, and not as funny or friendly as usual, which goes to show how much context can change things.

  4. Remember that Brandon gave this quote back in 2018, and some things, often around characters, change as he is writing the books. He might have believed that Mink would have been confirmed Dustbringer in this one, but had to move it to 5 or something. Or he planned to show Chana, but moved her. I would attribute it to a structural change, which happens during the writing at times. He said Axies would probably be in the book as well, but he wasn't. So that is probably the easiest explanation.

  5. Ulim was in general quite fun, and defenitely made those chapters easier to get through. His conversation with Nale was a highlight for sure. Otherwise, Eshonais final scene is one of the best ones Brandon has written, and really made her character memorable. In a way though, I feel like our two Singer-MCs got upstaged by the Singer/Fused antagonists in Raboniel and Lezian. Rlain was also way cooler than either one of the sisters.

  6. I defenitely think Vivenna has a plot purpose. Brandon wouldn't have made such a big deal of her if she was just a cameo like Galladon in WoK. I suspect we will see her in Rocks story, since she should get out of the perpendicularity there. And yes, her sword should be important as well. I wouldn't be surprised if she, just like Nightblood, has a part to play in Cultivations schemes. Also, she will defenitely confront Vasher, presumably in book 5.

That is simple. Flight. Exploring options for evacuation is an obvious idea under such circumstances.

Flight? Has Rock bonded a spren? And if he has, he defenitely isn't worldhopping, unless the Horneaters has cracked the secret behind how to get KRs out of the Rosharan system.

  8. I'm pretty sure Rock thought he would be executed and meant that he will see Kaladin in the afterlife. I doubt that he will be executed though, but I really don't see what use the Horneaters (or the story, for that matter) would have of Rock worldhopping right now. I think he will end up being the leader of the Horneaters and bring them into the Alliance.

There's always the trip back in book five...

True. I was confident that at least one of the three Radiants (Zu, Godeke, Stump) would die on the way to Lasting Integrity, but all survived. They might get offed on the way back then.

Zu was my fave! She made me laugh, and her and Ua'pam were so sweet. I really want more of them. <3 Another experience for the One!

I really liked Zu too. I was a bit sad that she (or Godeke) ultimately didn't have a presence in the Honorspren-storyline beyond Part 2.

  11. What were everyones thoughts on these two? I thought it was fun to see other non-Kholin KRs. Godeke was just a really great guy, and I found his continued belief in Vorinism really intresting. Zu was also cool, given that she gives us a view into a culture we haven't seen very much of. Her backstory as someone who was believed to be mad due to her bond was fascinating as well. And it felt like the text implied that she might have some combat skills as well, despite the fact that she claims that she only worked as a guide on the Reshi Isles.

What did you think about our new Radiants?

I am trying to understand. Do you mean is Ishar manages to make a spren appear in the physical realm with a physical body, the heralds can use this knowledge to become their physical forms to curve mental deterioration? Kind of like using spren as a testing ground to see if it works the other way or something like that?

I think this is pretty much what OP is saying, yes. It does make sense to me. Cognitive transitions seems to be messy. Spren do it with their minds intact, but their bodies can't manifest. Heralds can manifest bodies, but their minds are wierd. So Ishar is trying to see if you can manifest with both body and mind intact, presumably as a twisted way of helping the other Heralds, given that he doesn't consider himself insane (unlike for example Nale, who knows that his mind is crazy).

  13. Sooo, at the end of this book, we saw a power shake-up in Odiumland. Since Rayse is now deader than dead, and Taravangian is the Vessel of Odium, what will become Odiums forces? I feel like they can be divided into five groups, who might act differently from eachother:

*The normal Singers, who are with Odium due to tradition and a hatred of human invasions. They don't really seem to have a leading figure of their own. Will they abandon Taravangian in favor of hanging out with Venli/Dalinar?

*The Fused, who are with Odium due to bonds and and vengeance for human invasions. We dont know the leader of their faction, but El seems to be influential, so I guess many of them will follow him. El seems intent on serving Odium no matter if it is Mr T or Rayse holding the Shard, but will all of the Fused feel the same?

*The Skybreakers, who are with Odium due to the fact that Nale is confused about laws. They are led by Nale. Will he offer his services to the Singers of Venli or the Singers who are (potentially) staying with Mr T? And will he care about Rayses death?

*Moash, who is his own faction. He is led by Moash. His main reason for joing Odium was being able to ignore his pain, which he seems to need more than ever. Him follwoing was in large due to a personal relationship with Rayse. Will Mr T be able to give him a good deal and make him stay, or will he set out on his own?

*The Unmade, who were led by Rayse. Does the shift in Vessel matter, or will they be able to roam more freely after Rayses death?

So, what will happen with the forces of Odium?

    What about ham?

Me? I'm very picky with my pork products. I've only recently found ham that I like, pork has to be cooked a certain way, I like some but not all sausage and bacon has to be just crispy enough.

I'm pickier with eggs. I love them, but almost never when someone else cooks them.

Fine with ham (you can't have a really good sandwich without either chicken or ham), and pork is awesome. Eggs I'm fine with. Not amazing, not bad. I eat them. On occasion.

Also, bacon can work well on a hamburger. I'd rather go without it, but it can be really good if it's not too much.

I liked him for how he represented Kaladin’s  struggle. A foe that keeps coming for you, again and again. A foe you can beat once or twice or three times, but which will keep coming back, until it ends you. I saw The Pursuer as kind of an external symbolic manifestation of Kaladin’s depression. Which was why the scene before Kaladin’s rage moment was so satisfying. Because he was basically saying his depression was never going to end him. He would defeat it not by making it vanish, but by fighting and winning EACH TIME it tries to take him down.

Storms. Didn't even consider this, but I love it. Makes the Pursuer even more awesome. Thanks!

  16. So, what was everyones thoughts on him? I thought he was a really cool villain, with his Passion, his brutality, and his powers, which made for really fun sequences. I am actually a bit sad that he died permanently. Not that he didn't deserve it, but he was stormin cool.

Also, his second death by Kaladin must have been the most brutally violent death in SA this far. Storms. I was honestly surprised to have that in a Sanderson book. GRRM , Abercrombie or Steven Erikson? Sure, I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. But Brandon usually doesnt have people slowly getting their heads ripped off by gravity.

Although i certainly respect that the WoP is valid and could be seen that way, if ET gave birth to a alien kid while in new york, we could still call the new alien a New Yorker. The rogue aimian is a "relatively" recent issue. It could have split up in thaylenah and still count as thaylen. I think the real nail in the coffin would be if he was confirmed human.

Sure, it could be read that way. I personally consider it a stretch though. Another point against it, which struck me just now, is that the Ghostbloods really shouldn't use the hard-to-disguise-Sleepless as their primary contact person when dealing with non-Ghostbloods (Mraize is sent to recruit Shallan, hire Tyn and deal with Raboniel). It makes sense to have the Sleepless do stuff that wouldn't involve much interaction in which it could be discovered.

(Also, can a Sleepless use a blowgun?)

any specific type of sausages?  because like, I'm not fond of Kielbasa, but can demolish some breakfast sausage or chorizo.

Most of them. Chorizo can work on a pizza, and I'm fine with hot dogs and those sausages with cheese sprinkled inside, but otherwise I'd rather not have them.

  19. It is an intriguing idea, but I doubt it, based of this WoP:

    Quote

    Peter Ahlstrom

I think it's pretty clear in the book that Mraize is from Thaylenah.

    Peter Ahlstrom

And I wasn't being sarcastic or joking when I said I thought it was obvious from the text that Mraize was a Thaylen from Thaylenah.
