theory The Rest of the Shards and Where to Find Them
Toaster Retribution replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We could also do a quick headcount of who is alive and dead. We have this WoB: We know four dead Shards (Ambition, Dominion, Devotion and Honor). We also know about six living Shards (Autonomy, Cultivation, Ruin, Odium, Preservation and Endowment). This means that four of our unknowns might be dead. Then we have this WoB: This came before AU, which means that it was before we learned about Ambition. Still, put these two WoBs together and we might have evidence to that Odium has killed more than four Shards. At the most, I would say that there are three unknown Shards still alive, and one of them is the Survival Shard. Finally, one last WoB: I was looking for the first WoB in this post on Theoryland and stumbled upon this one. Could Odium have killed Justice/Retribution? I would certainly do that if I were him, to avoid being hunted down and punished. So I guess that we have two or three living Shards to find, and about the same amount of dead to find.- 76 replies

[OB] What is up with Mraize and Ialai?
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Mraize thinks Taravangian is an old fool who doesn't understand what he is doing, so I doubt it. I see good points in this. -
I just read through the chapter where Hrathen first meets Dilaf, and I found this: Bolded parts are bolded by me, of course. This is probably just what it seems to be: a description of Fjordell culture and religion, but Devotion is the name of one of the Sel Shards, and having those two words so close to eachother... wanted to see peoples thoughts about this. Is it possible that Ambition had some early influence on Sel? Or that Jaddeth is partly based off him?

It is now on my list of "Movies I won't watch in theatre even if I got paid to do it" list. Not because it looks bad, but because it looks storming scary, and I hate being scared. Same reason as for why I never saw It.

It has always gotten the country right for me, but never the location.

Laral was still considered a child as well, I believe.

Knight Radient order candidates
Toaster Retribution replied to sonwarrior01's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not sure if it is allowed to link to the Oathbringer threads in other parts of the forums. At least warn about it being in the spoiler board. -
It looked that way in WoR, but no one thinks she is dead. And as for spoilers, you can talk freely about anything that occurs in WOrds of Radiance and Way of Kings in the Stormlight section. If you want to talk Edgedancer, you need to go to Edgedancer Spoiler Board, and if you want to discuss Oathbringer material, you can only do that in the Oathbringer board. Welcome to the forum! As for the topic, I agree about Jasnah being the most likely to die. I don't really see Renarin or Lift dying, and I see Taln living too. Ash is possible though, as we know nothing about what to expect from her (hope we get some more Ash in Oathbringer). Since Dalinar is alive, and Oathbringer is his flashback book, we can rule him out too. I doubt Eshonai will die before book four either. Szeth is possible though, so were I too bet, I would bet on him and Jasnah.

theory The Rest of the Shards and Where to Find Them
Toaster Retribution replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'll be a bit more serious this time around, since Shards are something that interests me quite a lot. First off, I like the work you have done here. It's an interesting thread, and I really like the "aspects of God" theory. Out of your suggestions for new Shards, I really like Retribution (should maybe be called Justice) and Enlightenment, and I can buy Purity and Enigma too (I just don't like any of the proposed names for Enigma, that is my main problem with it). I am not overly fond of Charisma or Chaos though. Let me explain: Charisma is also dependant on the name. I don't like any of the suggested names for it. But then... I don't know if I would want to define leadership as divine trait of the Judeo/Christian God. After all, he gave man free will, and isn't trying to lead us as much as guide us. So I would like to suggest Guidance as a Shard to replace Charisma. The Shard of Guidance would probably be interested in trying to make people follow a specific path or purpose, probably the path as the Shard indetifies as the right one. It might grant magic as a reward to its followers or something. Then we have Chaos. First off, I love the name of this Shard, but I have other problems with it. I know people want to have another SHard to group in with Ruin, Preservation and Cultivation, but I am not totally sold on that. Harmony already fulfills the neutrality requirement, and I don't see what a negative neutrality Shard would do. Preservation keeps stuff in stasis, Cultivation develops things, makes them change, and Ruin flat out ends them. I don't really see the requirement for a Shard that would be somewhere between Ruin and Preservation, beyond the fact that it would fit a special pattern. That said, I don't really know what I would replace it with. Hope maybe? Hope is something that is closely tied to many religions. Or maybe Forgiveness, although I can see that being within Devotions area. Then of course, Time or something like it would be a cool Shard too. When it comes to where we may find these Shards... well we know that Dark One is in the Cosmere, and it will be set on Shardworld with a magic system focused around electricity (seriously Brandon, why hasn't this been written yet?). Which Shard would fit this? And then we also have Vax. It might be a Shardworld. It doesn't give us much, but I want to mention it anyways.- 76 replies

Controversial Opinions
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This thread focuses on positives and negatives, and opinions that are unpopular. The one you linked focuses only on stuff people dislike. As for my unpopular opinions: -The first Blade Runner is pretty bad (haven't seen 2049 yet). -Suicide Squad and BvS are good movies (better than Blade Runner). -The Hobbit movies are great. -Elantris is better than Warbreaker. -Star Wars prequels are good (except Attack of the Clones, which is a pretty weak movie). -
There was one of these at Bulbagarden (Pokemon-forum) and I thought we could do one here. Simply: post you unpopular movie/book/game opinions here. Go!

Entertainment Reviews(and Debate)
Toaster Retribution replied to Modal Seoul's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I hold Force Awakens as the best Star Wars, but I'm fond of Rogue One too. I think that Kylo Ren is a homerun character wise. The uniqueness of that character is grand. He is complex, he looks like a badass, but he is kind of weak. Much more fascinating than Vader, in my opinion. -

Tell me how this works out for you! I'd love to know since I live in Sweden (hi neighbour) and have considered doing something similar. If it works for you I might try it with Lost Metal, Apocalypse Guard or SA 4. -
Knight Radient order candidates

Awesome WoB @Wreith. I still think that Eshonai will be a Willshaper, but I don't buy Ash as Dustbringer. -
Knight Radient order candidates
Toaster Retribution replied to sonwarrior01's topic in Stormlight Archive
If we have, I have never seen it. @Extesian do we have anything on this (and tell me if you want me to stop asking you about WoBs). Thanks. I always forget Redin for some reason. But I agree, he will be important. Probably because 8/10 of them is affiliated with one order each. That is a pattern. We love patterns, and want to fit in the things that don't fit in at first glance. -
Knight Radient order candidates
Toaster Retribution replied to sonwarrior01's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Wreith We have had several threads discussing this, it is a pretty common topic. I'll quickly go through popular forum theories for @sonwarrior01 and anyone else who is interested: -Eshonai for Willshaper. People generally feel that her adventurous and curious personality matches the description we got of Willshapers in WoR. -Shalash for Dustbringer. This is mostly due to her being a confirmed flashback character for the back five. People are feeling that the flashback characters should each have their own order, and since we dont have anyone else for Dustbringer, Shalash is the general choice. Other popular suggestions have been Moash and Rysn, and later on Elhokar as well. My personal opinion is that Amaram would make a cool Dustbringer. Adolin have been suggested as well, but many see him as Edgedancer material nowadays.
