  1. I've never read the man-o-war novels. But I know of them, and I might pick them up in the future. Now I have read the first 2 Black Fleet novels. The first one I really enjoyed. The second, seemed like the author was jumping the shark, especially by the end of the second book, so I haven't picked up the third novel in the series.
  2. aw man, I love riddles. But I so very rarely ever see anything about them, that I don't remember any that aren't from video games, or the lord of the rings. I am measured, but not known. But you miss me when I've flown. What am I?
  3. Little random, but does anyone else like garlic spread. I'll try to get a picture of it next time I go to the super market. But I spread it on my toast like cream cheese. And it tastes amazing. At least I think so. I used to eat so much of it, that I started getting a garlicky smell around me. So I had to drastically cut back. Even so, love that stuff.
  4. I just finished the last Dragon Age novel. Now I think I'm ready to beat 2, and import that save into Inquisition. I started in on a novel I bought a while ago, that I never really got into before. Battle Cruiser, by B. V. Larson. Its interesting, if a little different from my usual scifi preferences. I was spoiled by the Lost fleet series, so any space based novel I read, almost always has to have space combat based off realistic fiction. And I have to enjoy the world, besides. I'm not really liking this world so far, but the scifi parts are interesting enough to keep me coming back. But it really is, read for 20 minutes, put it down for a few days, pick it up and read for 20 minutes, then put it down for a few days. If anyone has any good, modern detective stories to recommend, I'd love to hear them. Especially any modern noir novels.
  5. Hidy ho all, I've been playing some Dragon Age 2 recently, but it isn't scratching my tactical itch like its predecessor did. So I wanted to find a new game, that did just that. And then I saw a friend playing Xcom 2 on my friends list, and I was off to find some opinions on the game. So far the feedback I've gotten has been pretty split. Either wait for it to go on sale, or its awesome and you should buy it now. So I wanted to see if anyone here has an opinion on the game. Is it worth the 60 bucks they're asking for it? Or should I want for it to go on sale, and look else ware?
  6. I'm on the last episode of Narco's on netflix. I'm enjoying it so far, but I never realized how much of a prick Pablo Escobar was before now. The guy was fecking nuts. Makes me glad the DEA took him down. I'm also taking the latest season of the black list slower. Only 1-2 episodes a night. And I'm enjoying it more then when I binged watched it, over the course of 3 days.
  7. Just picked up space rogue over on GOG. Haven't had a chance to play it yet though. It does look like FTL with a bit more to the animations. I'm also considering picking up Xcom2, but I'm looking for a bit more info on it first. So I posted on the steam forums, and asked a few friends. How is it, compared to its predecessor?
  8. Just finished the last season of the black list on netflix. I binged the season over the course of 3 days, and loved it. Though I am a little fatigued by it, they left the cliff hanger such that it can be renewed. And I was figuring they were done with the show for now. I also just watched the first new episode of Narcos. Man that show is compelling.
  9. Just abandoned a game in masters of orion. I was stuck behind 4 of those red warplanes. Then the insectoids showed up at my border, demanding I give them a piece of tech. Since I had no idea they had a fleet on a border, or how strong it was, I told them to screw off. Then they declared war on me, and started wiping the feild with eveything I threw against them. I was starting to ramp up fleet production, to take back star systems, and land marines on worlds. But then another race declared war on me. One of them, I might have been able to fight off. But not both at the same time. So I just quit that game. I could go back into it, since your never defeated until you accept defeat. But my battleships were only 160 combat units strong, and I was facing 2 fleets of 800 strong. I don't think I could have produced enough combat power to take out both fleets before they crushed me to dust., much less counter attacked. Besides that though, I started dragon age 2! I imported my save from 1, into 2, and am playing through it (albeit slowly). I'm not that much of a fan of 2 myself. But I wanted to get at least 1 full play through of it, so that's what I'm doing now.
  10. I'm a pc gamer, so I recommend the PC version (which is on steam). But I'm not exactly impartial. I have a 360, but haven't turned it on in months. If your pc can handle it on high graphics, I say go for the PC version. How much is it on steam anyway? Also, the DLC isn't great. The witches of Dunmore (I think thats the title) and the Knife of Kirkwall are awesome bits of DLC that add alot to the game. But the others are just there to try and exend the life of the game, without really adding much too it.
  11. I played and beat dishonered 3 times now. That game is amazing. I haven't had the heart to go full psyco yet, but I know enough about the world to have an idea what that would do. There isn't a moral choice system per-say. There are actions and consequences. Those consequences though, could be very dire. I don't want to say more, because I think I'd spoil it. But Dishonered is a very good game, and worth playing. Kudos if you can stick it out for full stealth. I remember playing KSP before there were landing gear. We only had the mun to land on, and we had to use fins to land very gently. That game is fun on the bun. I haven't played it for a while now, because I don't really like the campaign mode. I might try to come back to it, in sandbox mode though. There are a few places I haven't landed on (I've watched you-tubers land on them though). I will say, that game made me apreciate lights. Ever tried to land on the dark side of a planetoid, without lights? It isn't easy, believe you me. Decending towards the surface, with no idea how low to the ground you are, you see the ground coming up fast, and you go full throttle hoping you can slow enough to land and be able to take off again. Suicide burns, are fun when you can see the ground, and terrifying when you can't.
  12. I've never beaten a final fantasy game. I've tried, belive me. But they seem to drag on for so long. I, eventually, get tired of them and just stop. They're not bad games, don't misunderstand me. I played, 8, 10, and 10 - 2. Loved the characters, and the story up to a point. Just their length made me un-interested.
  13. I'm with straw on this one. NMS is a decent game, tons of potential. But there isn't much to do in it. No factions to join, no space battle to participate in, the NPC's just kinda sit there. And the exploration mechanic is...repetative. Your first planet will be awesome. Your second will be cool. Your third will be interesting, and by the forth, you'll be ready for something else. And...there isn't much else. I belive the saying is 'Its a mile wide, and an inch deep'. If they add in factions to interact with, maybe home worlds to discover, the ability to land on and/or interact with capital ships, to participate in wars, and even just fleshing out the flight mechanics more. Then that game will go from...meh, to amazing. Very quickly. I picked up the new release of Masters of Orion on GOG. So far, that game is good. I've never been much for 4x games, but I'm enjoying it right now. Makes me want to pick up Stellaris when it goes on sale. In masters of Orion the voice actors are great, the mechanics are simplified but decent. I'm in a war atm, chull holes attacked me when I tried to nudge them away from my neighbors. So, I moved that side of my empire to producing war ships. Once they are done, I'm going to have a fleet to wipe that empire out. Even started a colony behind another empires lines. They haven't attacked me yet, but I can't get any more ships past that border without starting another war. So that colony has a single war ship defending the system right now, and I'm building it up as fast as I can. Need to get more colony ships out there, and claim more territory.
  14. Dresden files are an awesome read. Starting in on the third Dragon Age novel. Hot dam, what a ride so far. Love the universe, or hate it. If your into the games, then I would absolutely recommend the novels to you. They really help to expand on some of the topics barely touched upon in the games. And help to give the characters a third dimension.
  15. So I just started the third Dragon Age book. Godam what a ride so far. If anyone is interested in the Dragon Age games (or universe as a whole), I would highly recommend these novels.
  16. So I put down No Man's Sky for Dragon Age. I started noticing the repetitiveness of the game after exploring a few planets. And how shallow the game is. I just beat Dragon age origins, going through the DLC right now. Rather enjoying not knowing whats coming up next.
  17. So, I just finished the first Dragon Age book. And I have to say, I rather liked it. Its not perfect, to be sure. But it gives the characters more depth, and helps to round them out. There are some conflicts with the first game though. And the the narrator for the audible version clearly didn't do his due dilligence, when figuring how to pronounce things (pronouncing the 'th' in thaig, when the game leaves the h silent). But the book was good overall. I picked up the second novel in the series, and am going through that one now. It is interesting how much Marrik knew about the darkspawn and grey wardens before the first games events. You don't really get that impression in the first game. It might make me start up a new game, just to re-play that first area, and watch for things you didn't notice w/out the books. that and I'm interesting in seeing what more I can do with a mage, now that I know a bit more about possibilities (the entropy magic, looks awesome). Edit: So I just did some digging, and realized that Maric's son, is the guy we meet in the beginning. And Marric isn't in the first game. I honestly thought that first king we meet was Marric. Forget what I said about the conflicts in the books. The books, as far as I know, are perfect the way they are. Story wise at least.
  18. I think your right. There are some flaws, sure. But overall, I think the devs are going to be able to take this product and improve it significantly. I put it down for the moment. I just beat dragon age origins for the first time on PC (beat it on the 360 a while ago). Going through the DLC, to get a save ready for import into DA2 (and possible 3, later on down the line). I'm going to pick it up again in the future, that's for sure.
  19. Well, I finished the first dragon age book and picked up the second one. The ending was a bit sad, but compelling none the less. There are some clashes with the first game though. All in all, worth getting. As it did help to round out Logain and Marrik.
  20. Seriously? There are pedophiles (I think thats how its spelled) on those forums? I figure there are people like that on every forum, but I've never been on a forums where its very noticeable.
  21. I'm also subbed to a similar discussion on the elite dangerous forums. People are equal parts enjoying it, and complaining about the game. Its clearly not for everyone. They're also sharing incredible screen shots of this game. Us GOG players, are having a hard time getting screen shots. But does anyone have any screen shots from the game? Edit: I just went on my lunch break and watched a video made by totalbiscuit, to explain what the NMS war on the interweb is all about. I wasn't paying attention to the hype, so I didn't know what the hype was saying. But there were alot of others that were. If I had been paying attention to the hype, and got the product I got, I'd ask for a refund too. I figured folks would want to see this, just to make sure they didn't get the wrong impressions about the game. So, here you go. I'm a bit peeved at the devs, for allowing the hype to get as high as it did. Just because, all it did was remind us consumers what companies will do to make a buck/euro/your monetary denomination.
  22. I do agree, that whole apocalypse was a bit overdone. Just the brother/sister tag team of taking over the city would have been enough to send in that group. I did like the end of the movie though. Though for all that, he was a super villain. Able to survive absurd situations, able to do things nobody else can do, able to bypass or buy the police (therefore needing a vigilante to take him down). He hit all the check boxes to be a super villain.
  23. Lol, I haven't played minecraft in years. Buit it was a fun game when it first came out. I don't like the new launcher though, having to sign in to play the game. I already bought the damnation thing! Hell I was playing at beta 1.6. Let me play my game w/out the always on drm!
  24. Hidy ho all, I just recently saw suicide squad, and I actually rather enjoyed it. I wasn't a big fan of the joker, but that was my only peeve with it. And enjoyed it overall. But all the reviews and critics say it was a mess, and just not worth seeing. Anyone else enjoy the movie?
  25. I spend alot of tiime sunday, on a planet with acid rain. God thats anoying. Especially since I couldn't just hide under a rock over overpass to let my chemical protection recharge. most of my wanderings are just hunting down learning stones/obellisks to learn words. know almost 40 now, starting to get a vague idea what those aliens are saying. Not sure what I'm going to do after that. Try my hand at piracy maybe? To paraphrase caboose (RvB), 'Yarr! Drop and give me your booty!".
