In a recent livestream, Brandon mentioned deadeyes did not happen before the recreance and there is some special reason for this happening, and it was similar to something we have seen elsewhere in the cosmere. My mind immediately considered how the seons behaved when Shaod occurred to their bonded human after the Raod. They essentially became deadeyes. What was the commonality? Both honor and devotion were killed and splintered. Very interesting!

I think the nature of the oathpact could conceivably change.

I have this theory rolling around in my head about Kaladin taking up the mantle of Jezrien, in a new oathpact Dalinar will forge. I found this epigraph people normally associate with Daliner: Chapter 53: "He must pick it up, the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!" But I think it could refer to Kaladin, a king is a title, a crown is a mantle, and the spear is an interesting relationship considering heralds used swords, but some people have speculated about dawnshard and such, I'm not sure how I feel about that. My question to the community is this: do you have any more evidence that could lead to Kaladin becoming a king? I think Dalinar will eventually have to leave such positions due to his mission of unity, so I feel like it doesn't really fit him. Kaladin was narratively taken off the frontline of the fight, and I think for a bigger reason. I think he might find out some things in Shinovar alongside Szeth.

I enjoyed reading that, you seems very well versed in the Hebrew on this. I don't think our points are that far off, there is certainly a lot to unpack, I was doing a couple of logical jumps there, using some of the new testament writers such as Paul's -his faith was counted for righteousness, and the Hebrews writer's point that Abraham considered that God could simply raise Isaac up again. On the topic, I think Sacrifice could be an interesting idea for a shard as well. A magic system where giving up aspects of self could lead to power?

I don't know what you feel is the moral to this account, but a lot of people get this one wrong. (Assuming you mean Abraham being tasked with sacrificing his son Isaac.) The moral of this story follows a recurring theme, "obedience is better than sacrifice" in other words, obedience to what? Moral laws. Obeying moral law is a way to be good. Being good is better than sacrificing something. Sacrifice is important, but it is worthless if you aren't good. Think of a theoretical company that dumps barrels of radioactive waste into a river and kills people, but has a charity non-profit wing that feeds homeless. Does that charitable sacrifice make them good? No. However, if they acted morally, whether they donated to charity or not, they would still be a "good company." (Thought because they are good they probably would also be charitable.) God never wanted wanted to take Isaac from Abraham, he wanted to show Abraham, and by extension his descendants, that being good (following moral law, the Word of God) is better than sacrifice. Abraham understood this, and while he didn't know what was going to transpire, he told his son they would both be coming back from that mountain, because he trusted his obedience would be rewarded, and he also knew part of the moral law was to do no murder. Abrahamic religion has never required human sacrifice. To do with the book topic, if there is a shard like Tribulation, or Test, or Evaluation, or something, it would be interesting to see how that world worked. Trials without meaning truly would be a terrible thing, I can see those people being pretty hardcore, though.

Odium killed Honor, but did he have help? I was going over some death rattles, (getting all kinds of ideas) and had this thought: Did the Heralds kill Tanavast? or somehow knowingly allow Tanavast to be killed? Did they have Cultivation help, did her machinations go back this far, did her power take over her vessel, and she cultivates plots? We know she has sought to replace at least one shard vessel. Chapter 1 Epigraph: "You've killed me. Bastards, you've killed me! While the sun is still hot, I die!" Is this Tanavast, referring to the heralds, the heralds and cultivation, or maybe cultivation and odium? Why would Cultivation want to kill Honor and let Odium splinter his shard? What motivation? The Rhythm of War. The force created by Odium and Honor, as long as the two existed as equal power, the war would continue. Cultivation and the heralds would both have motivation to stop this. Chapter 54: "The burdens of nine become mine. Why must I carry the madness of them all? Oh, Almighty, release me." Was this Taln? Tortured on Braise, giving in, unable to take the torture, but Tanavast, being dead, unable to release him? If the herald could not be released, then perhaps the enemy could be locked away, and indeed it was, for a time. Tell me what you guys think.

Lirin has the soul of a coward. There are lots of people like him, rational, logical, but cowards. Evil flourishes when good men do nothing. Lirin is the man that will do nothing.

You need 200 breaths to have perfect pitch, so he had 200 at least, then lost enough to have less than that. It is very frightening. I think narratively, Wit was having too big of an impact, maybe a bit of a cosmere "easy button," so Brandon had to nerf him a little bit.

I cried at Teft dying. I racked and sobbed when Dalinar said: "I AM CONNECTING HIM, UNITING HIM!"

I truly feel that most of what occurs with Kaladin is something special about him. They all assume he is just another windrunner, albiet the first, but he is more. He has long been called the son of honor by the SF, and more specifically the son of Tanavast. His spren is ancient, powerful. If Cultivation was a dragon, and her lover was Honor, then Honor may well have been one as well. Is Kaladin the son of a dragon in some roundabout way? Dalinar does things a bondsmith shouldn't be able to, Kaladin does things a WR shouldn't be able to. Dalinar may well be on his way to become the Shard Unity (All 3 shards together,) but Kaladin is on his way to being a King, a King over the orders of the KR. Kaladin is truly walking the path of Noedon, The Way of Kings starts with Kal's narrative. Man who walking the way to be a king.

Reading through this thread makes me appreciate all over again the beauty of this series. And some people say Brandon can't write. smh...

I find it difficult to believe that people are calling Adolin a Mary Sue at this point, we haven't even seen him enough to judge. Wait until the end of book 5.

That's a theory that I've posited here before. The scope of "Unite Them" seems to grow, from the princes of Alethkar, to the Knight's Radiant, to the kingdoms of the world, to honor's power. I think Dalinar has a big role to play in the unification of Adolnasium's shards. The first step is to unite the shards of Roshar.

Is there a post somewhere about who is a confirmed herald?

"Unite them," to me, ultimately means that Dalinar will unite Honor, Odium, and Cultivation, becoming the Shard Unity. This would be a step towards reuniting Adolnasium in the cosmere long haul.

Navani as a bondsmith would be amazing. I love this idea.
