  1. I think my friend read it few years ago. Title is similar, horror checks out, vampires... He also said it's weird.
  2. Cut the sarcasm. You were talking about people who wanted to take Preservation: and those are the Ire. Khriss and Nazh were there to observe Preservation's death, not take its power. If they had power of Elantrians they would: look like Elantrians need their own pipeline to get the Dor There are various methods of acquiring immortality or longevity in Cosmere and we only know a few. No, I'm not. I'm thinking more of Endowment since there was some speculation that Edgli is a dragon but in the light of recent revelations I'm suspecting Bavadin to be nonhuman. Would you mind explaining how it got stronger when Skai got killed? Odium doesn't care about some plucky little human magic users, he cares about someone with power to rival his own. A whole Shard in other words.
  3. They look like Elantrians. There's an Aon Ire which means "Age". A Scadrianized Aon Ire shows up as a symbol of one of the Parts in SH. They have a pipeline in Cognitive to channel Dor. They curse by "Devotion" and one of them says they won't need Devotion once they have Preservation. "Alonoe" is also the name of the lake which is the dot in the Aons. Their names are also Aonic (built around Aons). They live far longer than a human lifespan (Ruin comments on them being too old) which is also a characteristic of Elantrians.
  4. Not necessarily true - not all of the Vessels are humans. Scadrial isn't the only place humans doesn't predate arrival of the Shards. Khriss in Scadrial essays says it's one of the two. Well, there were humans on Yolen before Shattering happened. If Adonalsium is the creator of the whole cosmere then it does mean he also created mankind in particular .No - it's actually the sixteen Vessels who murdered Adonalsium and ripped it apart, taking Shards. Those are not people from Silverlight. Ire is from Sel, they're Elantrians. Ire planned to take Preservation before that. Once a Shard is Splintered it cannot be Ascended to (or at least that's how it is based on our current knowledge; anyway, Odium Splinters Shards to prevent people taking them up and rising to challenge him).
  5. In Hungary, they don't say "Happy Birthday". Instead, they say "Az életem a tiéd, lélegzetem tiéd lesz" which means "May your life be colorful" and I think that's beatiful.
  6. Interesting. Anybody else wants to share their language birthday wishes?
  7. I prefer First Era - 3 books Second Era (W&W) - 4 books Third Era - 3 books Fourth Era - 3 books That amounts to 13 books. And now, between each eras a Secret History. Brandon already talked about wanting to do a Secret History 2. This would amount to 16.
  8. I think it's pretty confirmed now that Compounding copper lets you multiply memories. The proof is the coin from the end of BoM. Unless Sovereign just randomly gets rid of his memories by storing them in coins...
  9. Oh Colors of the Almighty, do you want something really random? Here are two Google Homes in conversation trying to pass the Turing test. It gets genuinely funny suprisingly often. Here's reddit post with some of the highlights. (I also posted there) EDIT: As I am typing that, they're tickling each other for like 3 minutes now EDIT2: It's far more entertaining that I suspected. I'm listening to it like for half an hour now.
  10. @Slowswift I tried to do it by using internet templates but I had no luck in finding any so I went and screenshoted the movie
  11. Finished inFAMOUS: Second Son (evil path since I've done/seen good path so I was feeling a lot like an Epic), in meantime I beat Portal in one sitting and I have just started Gravity Rush. I can tell you that Windrunning is gonna be awesome
  12. Actually that force is the Sixteen. ... well, what kind of a god/God are we talking about? The Christian God has all the "vengeful and wrathfull" nailed down, Preservation is about others, not self preservation, so that too and as for the Dominion.
  13. And then when Nightblood comes around it turns out that time they were talking about was between Warbreaker and Nightblood and they only reference it and we wouldn't ever learn what it was.
  14. Happy birthday, @Kestrel! Random fact for today: instead of "happy birthday", in Polish you wish somebody "a hundred years" (to live). It's 12 °F and it keeps (and will keep) dropping. Some prognoses say it can be around -4 °F. Now, where did I put that blanket... I wish I could read the White Sand prose version, I'm checking my email several times a day How long does it usually take?
  15. The question is: what happens when you Lash yourself sideways given infinite Stormlight? Would you continue to travel in that direction leaving the planet behind or is Lashing relative to the center of the planet? For example, consider a Lashing forwards. Would your path be a line or a section of a circle? Because if forwards is "at right angle to 'down' " it means you'll orbit the planet.
  16. I haven't thought much about this; I canonized nothing. Generally mages cannot directly affect each other magically (some can and they are regarded as scary or at least it's uneasy around them) - Haesar can throw a fireball at somebody but he can't just set that somebody on fire from a distance. He could however hold on to somebody and set them on fire. But it's a process which is actually a reverse of what you'd need to do to drain them. Storytelling enforces that most of mental powers can affect other mages (otherwise those would be useless. I have some reasons to back it up). You mean more like Hemalurgy or more like one Surgebinder stealing somebody's else Stormlight? Hemalurgy kind... it's a plot point. It's related to what a Middle Bad of the story can do and some of secrets of the worldbuilding. Stealing somebody's else Stormlight... You'd need a way to create a link between you and your victim. It's not about needing a pathway - consider auras to be different Investitures, you can't just go and power Allomancy with Breaths. Usually if such a link exists (like between teammates) power can be gifted (because somebody is running dangerously low on resources) but stealing would require a way to invade someone or break them in such a way that power leaks out. If you're getting at vampires being able to do that I can say that's it's plausible - blood of a mage is Invested (for a lack of a better term). However they still won't be able to drain them - they're getting blood and that blood happens to carry some of the power. There are some monsters who feed on souls so for them it's all the same whether it's a soul or power since that's pretty much the same (Soulsmiths, remember?). EDIT: I pretty much invented half of that on the spot. I think starting "Ask about my worldbuilding" thread is a good idea
  17. but... but what about all the jokes about bassists? Like the one where they don't even know what song they're playing? My poor jokes!
  18. The part when @Quiver mentions Superman being the custodian of Hope made me wonder how would a system fueled by Shard of Hope work. Obligatory Kelsier joke incoming...
  19. I've theorized that the Way Of Kings is responsible for being selected to receive the visions like half a year ago:
  20. Ouch. Good luck. Not pressing, just asking

    Streams

I use Topics/Unread/I posted in (http://www.17thshard.com/forum/discover/46/) and it shows me nothing. Then I change Ownership to 'Everything' and it shows me various topics... including those which I have posted in (like 'Pet Peeves'. When I take a look on this thread from the forum it's star symbol which means I have posted in it but stream uses round dot). Is this the "enhancements and proper menus coming to streams soon" happening? @Chaos? Is it under work right now or is something weird happening? EDIT: I played around with streams a little more and for example I tried to look for topics I started (anytime/past 365 days) and it only shows me this one.
  22. I'm flattered but you should check out the reading order graph in the first post of the topic anyway (that is if you haven't ).
  23. You're a Sanderfan when you read And start wondering what is going on with that swimming course? I mean, if it's training to swim in ice cold water it should be Brass Medallion. What does have wakefulness have to do with swim... *realizes it's probably just a name*
  24. I've pulled some strings and Sandman agreed to schedule you for an additional sleep. It also should help with the headache. You're welcome Hugs have to be metaphorical though.
  25. I'm routinely checking Brandon's reddit for new info and I have spent a lot of time reading through Theoryland but new signings are always a problem for me. I don't know how to keep track of info that pops out there without obsessively checking Events subforum. I am obsessed with Cosmere but I'm not that obsessed. So I came across a reddit post summing up all the December 2016 WoBs and I thought I know all the important stuff and then it turned out I don't. And I don't have time to become more obsessed... I have to read all the WoBs about Sel right now, not compulsively look for new stuff. Is there a way to sort things on theoryland chronologically? Since we're talking about theoryland: is there some guide/introduction to it? I have a lot of problems with it and I just use google (site:theoryland.com) to search for stuff. EDIT: I know that there are those googledocs with transcripts out there. Perhaps a thread to aggregate them would be a good idea...
