  1. What I find interesting about his post is that he used the phrase "I need to write". It's not something he wants to do or an idea he's been messing around with, it's something he needs to write. My idea is that it's connected to Skyward. We know Skyward is connected to one of his non-Cosmere stories, likely Defending Elysium, Firstborn, or (maybe) Perfect State based on the setting and premise. However, any of those novellas likely exist at a different time period from the events of the trilogy, probably before them. This novella could be a sequel to whichever novella is in the Skyworld(?), bridging the gap between the events of the stories.
  2. As others have said, the art shift was incredibly jarring. I thought that most characters got a lot more development in this one, though that might just be because it's the second volume and there's more time for that stuff. Standouts for me were Khriss and Baon. Exceptions were Jon Acron and Cynder who somehow managed to be even less distinguishable in this volume than the last one.
  3. On page 141 of volume 2, a daysider who is the overseer at a construction site Menton helps, is named Trell. This is interesting considering who else in the Cosmere goes by that name.
  4. It turns out that Lift has eaten Vax, the dawnshards, Unity, dragonsteel (the material), and the REAL reason for the Recreance.
  5. We actually have a page set up on the Coppermind that has a list of all the articles needing updates. These pages all have the update tag that's at the top of the Worldhopping page. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Coppermind:Oathbringer/to-update If you see something like this and want to try adding it, we'd love the help. We have a great new editor's guide for people without wiki experience, and we're more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
  6. There's another topic where people have been discussing this. You might find some interesting ideas over there.
  7. I think anything with a projected release in the SotS is probably out. I can, however, imagine something in the distant future that got moved up being called a Secret Project. If, for example, Brandon decided while outlining SA4 that he needed to write Nightblood first, there's a good chance he'd once to announce it in a blog post or signing rather than just have it unexpectedly show up on the progress bar, even though it's been talked about plenty.
  8. It was helpful. The question wasn't 'Which is the most dangerous Radiant?' or 'Which has the most dangerous surges?' Based on the question, Brandon could be referring to Dalinar as the blackthorn being the most dangerous, which I'd argue is completely true. And since he said time in their life, it would need to include restrictions from the oaths to use surges. So Kaladin couldn't hurt someone unless he was protecting someone. Shallan and Dalinar don't seem to have such strict restrictions.
  9. I'm want to read this WoB, if you can find and post it. I'm curious if his answer was based on surges alone or includes the restrictions imposed by the order's oaths.
  10. Maybe the bonded spren were with their Radiants and far away from the cities where the unbounded ones were when they made the decision. Maybe the spren didn't think they would really be gone because they don't have the same sense of death as humans. Maybe there was mass chaos and knowledge loss when the majority of people in spren civilization died. I looked up the scene you referee to with Spark. We're hearing her words secondhand from Malata. We don't know that she actually used the word friends. I personally agree that the spren agreed the Recreance was necessary. I just don't think there needed to be some spren conspiracy where they agree not to tell anyone. I didn't get the impression there were lots of unbonded spren at the time anyways. Isn't that what makes Syl so special to the honorspren?
  11. I just found out that the girl who sits next to me in English had a cousin who died in the recent shooting. It's scary and sad just how close to home this whole thing is. Our school's former band instructor who left three years ago teaches there. Why can't people just be decent human beings and not shoot each other? Why is that so storming difficult?
  12. All it means is that for one reason or another, Brandon doesn't want to announce what it is right now. It could be because he's never mentioned it. It could be because he's not sure how well the idea will actually work once it's written and he doesn't want to talk about it until he does. It could be because it's something big and Brandon has a specific time and place in mind he wants to announce it at. We really don't know.
  13. I just noticed this and came here to post it. If it's a secret, it's probably not something on his upcoming project lists, which would take out Skyward sequels and TLM. Maybe Dark One, since he said he wrote an outline he liked for that recently. Or Rithmatist 2, since I know he wants to finish that up.
  14. A lot of the issues you mentioned about worldbuilding and characterization are why I haven't read the prose yet. I've seen so many comments of people complaining about things the prose did better that I decided to wait until after all three graphic novels before reading it so I wouldn't have any expectations. I was one of the people who was really excited for volume 2, and the hype has definitely gone down each time they moved the date. I won't believe it's coming out this month until I've actually bout it from Amazon. I kind of have a soft spot for the graphic novel since it's what really got me into Coppermind editing Does this mean we're getting a video podcast next week?
  15. Most of the spren who survived the Recreance were children at the time. I think the ignorance was less intentional, and more a side affect of the complete chaos caused when almost every adult in a society is killed. We know how chaotic the Recreance was for humans and how much knowledge was lost. It had to have been at least as bad, if not more so, for the spren societies in Shadesmar. Circumstantial evidence but the main source of knowledge about what caused the Recreance admitted his memory was fuzzy around that time. And we haven't spoken to any highspren yet.
  16. If you want a Legion hardcover, it might be worthwhile to wait. The final novella is coming out in September, and Brandon has said it won't be published separately for like a year after. Instead, there will be a collection of all three sold then.
  17. When you haven't stopped smiling since you bought you JordanCon ticket 24 hours ago.
  18. I'm going to JordanCon! Is there a thread or something for sharders that will be there?
  19. Hmm. I wonder what would happen if someone stored a bunch of identity, became a Soulcasting savant, and then tapped it. What effect would that have on the smoke monster things?
  20. Speaking of confusing fanon terms, can we please try not to use the word aspect to describe those Autonomy things while the concept is still malleable so we don't end up giving it the same name as a the entire magic system from Legion? I'm curious, what is the does hosting one of these actually entail compared to just being a guest, @Chaos? As a listener, I didn't notice a difference except who does the intro and closing stuff.
  21. Are you referring to this scene at the Battle of Theylen City? And later. If you saw these quotes posted in another thread, it was probably by me.
  22. To me, the obvious question about spren being of Cultivation is did Honor and Cultivation come to Roshar because the spren have a large amount of Cultivation's investiture? The Eila Stele does say the humans came using powers singers were forbidden to touch. That implies to me that surges were forbidden before humans came, and it's not due to Odium's influence. If you can power Surgebinding with Breaths and Breaths are stickier than Stormlight, would a Full Lashing powered with Breaths last longer than one powered by Stormlight. Great episode, lots of really funny moments.
  23. The thing that bothers me more is the opposite of this. How could this character have possibly become a Radiant when we don't know of some terrible tragedy in their past. Also, Shallan can't possibly be on her fourth ideal because she hasn't manifested plate yet. People make that argument with other characters like Jasnah too, but it bothers me most with Shallan since we actually have a WoB on her.
  24. We haven't seen stonewardspren yet. Maybe that's what the smokespren are. The smokespren could be one of these contradictions. A spren made of smoke being attracted to people with immovable ideas.
  25. There was a thread a while back dedicated to trying to write keteks using every Alethi letter so people can have something to practice their skills with. I think @Harakeke was going to post them somewhere, but I'm not sure what happened with them.
