You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
thegatorgirl00 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you see on the Coppermind the the Palanaeum was based off the Library of Alexandria and think 'Of course it was. They're both run by evil cultists.' -
So in Puuli's chapter, he mentions his grandfather told him this. I think Puuli's grandfather was telling him about the Night of Sorrows. The Noight of Sorrows was mentioned three times in WoK. The Stormfather warns Dalinar in a vision, Dalinar thinks about his words, and it shows up in a death rattle. The only evidence is the idea that they'll come in the night, and people coming to destroy would lead to sorrow. Who do you guys think it is who will come? A singer army? The shades of the Lost Radiants? The descendants of the Wandersail? The Seanchan?

[OB] Surgebinding VS Voidbinding
thegatorgirl00 replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with this. @Windrunner pointed out in the Coppermind Discord that the last time the word voidbinding was used outside the Ars Arcanum was WoK Chapter 18. -
(OB) Who will have a bigger role in SA 4?
thegatorgirl00 replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Renarin , now that his secret is out Vyre Bridge Four Important Fused The Unmade we haven't seen yet. I suspect there will be something about it the singers trying to find and unleash Ba-Ado-Mishram Brandon has said that flashback characters can be dead in their book. So Eshonai is still set to be the flashback character, but Venli will be the focus of the book. -

Authors Known For The Wrong Book
thegatorgirl00 replied to Ammanas's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I tried reading the Codex Alera and I only made it through the second one. I was really disappointed in the drastic tone shift. The first one was a straight fantasy, but the second with the Vord felt like much more of a horror, which is not a genre I like reading. I'm curious why you didn't like it. -
That was the impression I got, but there were some entries that just had <> and no words or part of a question before or after. Should those just say inaudible instead?

What is the exact use of <> when making suggestions?

Shardcast: The Unmade and Oathbringer Part Four Epigraphs
thegatorgirl00 commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
Some thoughts after listening. I read Overlord Jebus's WoB about spren fishing before listening, so the comment on how it probably wasn't just something Isaac did very amusing. The Survival Shard is definitely Hope, and Kelsier will pick it up to ascend. His final words were clever foreshadowing by Brandon. -
There are a lot of events that happen in quick succession in the time leading up to the Recreance. This thread will hopefully clarify what happened and add some speculation on what exactly happened. Abandonment of Urithiru From the Part 3 epigraphs, we know that the Radiants were forced to abandon Urithiru because the Sibling receded. Not much is known about the Sibling or why he withdrew, but he is somehow linked to the function of the tower. Based on the epigraphs, this occurs sometime during the False Desolation. They speak of imprisoning Ba-Ado-Mishram to end the fighting. Honor's Declining Health During this time, Honor was dying and going a little bit insane. Rather than being supportive of the Knights when they learned the truth about their origins, he was raving about how they were going to destroy Roshar. He cared less about the people and more about simply keeping oaths, no matter what the oath is. His death didn't fully occur until after the Recreance, but he clearly wasn't well. Imprisoning Ba-Ado-Mishram I find this to be the most interesting point timeline wise. The Radiants at Feverstone Keep were fighting on the front lines before abandoning their oaths. However, the keep itself is not directly on the front lines. When the Unkade was imprisoned, the singers had their Connection and Identity ripped out of them, turning into the modern parshmen we know. This almost certainly would have ended the fighting. I believe the most likely scenario is that the mission succeeded, which acted as the final straw for the Recreance. The men at the keep would not have had any way of getting this information. However, there is an epigraph in WoR indicating that there was still fighting when the Knights abandoned their oaths. There are three explanations I can think of for this. The in-world book is wrong. After so many years, the author became misinformed about when the fighting ended. The fighters were not singers. We know there were humans on both sides of the war, so the fighting could have simply been between humans. The imprisonment happened after the Day of Recreance. This means some Radiants would have had to break their oaths later than others, as it requires Melishi, a Bondsmith, was necessary for the imprisonment. What We Don't Know There is one group of people whose view of the Recreance we do not know: the spren who died. The other spren are very angry at humans for what heppened, but they were all children at the time. I find it unlikely they would know all the details of what happened to their parents. The main source of information on what happened, the Stormfather, admitted his memories from this time are fuzzy. I don't think our view of what the spren believed is entirely accurate.

Authors Known For The Wrong Book
thegatorgirl00 replied to Ammanas's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I've read that one, the only Valdemar books I haven't read are the Mage Wars books. Don't get me wrong, I like the Valdemar books, I just like some of her other books more. I haven't read Bedlam's Bard or Doubled Edge, I'll have to give them a try sometime. -
theory [OB] Disunity among the Radiants
thegatorgirl00 replied to I'mAStickFanClub's topic in Stormlight Archive
Regarding Shallan's conflict with her brothers. It just occurred to me that they all still believe their father killed their mother. It will cause problems if and when they find out the truth. -
I voted other for Ash. She hasn't been confirmed as there yet, but a statue of her was seen as destroyed that night by either Sseth or Jasnah (I forget which) and there were plenty of other Heralds, so I find it likely she was. Also, she will be a larger PoV character later, and all the prologues so far have been from more important characters.

I think the implication was more that hate was the filtered version of the Intent. When Dalinar looks at the shard, he says it includes all extreme emotions. I personally believe that if someone else had picked up the shard, it could have been interpreted as Passion, but Rayse's influence made it emphasize hate. I don't think it would count as a form of breaking, though, just a shift in perception changing investiture over time.

Controversial Opinions
thegatorgirl00 replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Entertainment Discussion
How far did you get? While I can see how the first book could give that impression, plenty of women gain power in other ways and become awesome characters. I find Mistborn Era 1 kind of meh. I could never connect to Vin enough to really enjoy them, and I only revisit them for Cosmere stuff. -
Yay! I'm not a comic reader, but I am farmiliar with the original story. It seems like they're going to have lots of different reasons for things, since the existence of Amy ruins the explanation from the comics. Also, Skrulls and mutants are both owned by FOX, so some character backgrounds will need to get changed. I'm also super curious about the mole storyline. With all the other changes, I can't imagine it being the same person.

I think we have a somewhat limited view of the Shard's Intent if we go solely by the name. Who would've thought before OB that Besides, one definition of Autonomy is self-reliance, and you have to be very self-reliant to survive Patji.

Actually there are some subtle hints that Shallan used Shardplate in the last battle. And later
-
This idea extends a little beyond the sixth book, but while listening to the Shardcast episode the letters, someone, I believe @WeiryWriter , brought up that while Odium seems evil, Autonomy's slow claiming of planets is an it creepy. That led me to an idea. What if Autonomy is the final boss of the Cosmere, and Rayse is instrumental in stopping her? Rayse has the knowledge and experience of splintering shards. I'm wondering if SA will end with a truce that puts Odium on the good guy's side. Besides, who believes that Brandon will make the true villain of his story someone named hate? That's just too obvious.

The problem is that the first ideal is so malleable, a person can pretty much justify it any way they want. We know that a philosophy of the end justifies the means is compatible to some orders of Radiants, even though it seems like it would go completely against Dalinar's and Kaladin's interpretations of the first ideal. I went with Marvel. I'm not a huge comics fan, so my experience is mostly limited to the shows and movies. I think Marvel is just consistently good and entertaining. D.C. Is hit or miss for me. I came out of Justice League thinking it was the most perfectly average superhero movie I had ever seen. Also, I am currently in love with the new Marvel Runaways show. Anyone else watching it?

It's not a requirement, but you are more likely to attract a spren if you know a Radiant. Source

The first people the spren seem to be choosing are the ones who are best suited to the order and can probably make it to the final oath. But we know from the Skybreakers that most people in an order don't make it that far. I think that as the orders expand, the spren will get less picky and start choosing less ideal candidates. Maybe Adolin is one who could only make it to the third or fourth oath, but there are others who could make it to all five, so Adolin wouldn't be chosen until the orders grow larger. Maybe spren can somehow see Adolin's atypical bond with Maya and are avoiding him because of that. There are plenty of minor things that could be causing spren to avoid him at this point since there are so few spren and they seem to be pretty selective right now. In any case, his bond with Maya at this point basically guarantees no other spren will bond him at this point, so we won't know if he would have eventually attracted another spren otherwise.
