  1. Yeah, we have absolutely no evidence that there is such a thing as a feruchemical equivalent of Savants. I could have phrased that to be clearer but yeah, the advantage of compounding is that it makes it easier to do really impressive things, not that it lets you do things that you couldn't without compounding provided you had enough of the attribute stored up. Well, aside from storing age to extend your lifespan where you do need compounding..
  2. Thank you, your lesser holiness (because none can be as holy as Wayne). Hey look, is that a kandra drinking contest?! <grabs your goldmind while you have your back turned and replaces it with a banana>
  3. They probably copied from Yolen since that's where they were from and what they were familiar with. Which would explain why life on Scadrial is familiar to us but the other worlds where it evolved independently, less so. The fact that Hoid uses terminology familiar to us when telling a story to Kaladin (who has no idea what a 'bunny rabbit' is) seems to support this.
  4. Can you hemalurgically spike dolphins with a couple bits of copper to make them sentient? And if so does this mean that we'll have dolphins alongside the humans when we get fourth era Mistborn and FTL travel? Please? Watch the first FTL ship on Scadrial be named the Streaker...
  5. Someone will invent it only to find that when they weren't looking a Steelrunner swiped it from their drawer and replaced it with a banana.
  6. My first thought was carbonated lemonade with way too much sugar added but an early version of [insert your favorite lemon/lime-ish fizzy drink here] certainly works. And this book also introduces hot chocolate to northern Scadrial. A culinary revolution is imminent! Really, I think almost everything Steris does in the book could be called 'the best part'. xD
  7. At least she got restored quickly enough to not have too many gaps in her memory. And it's happened to her once before. And on the main topic, now I'm wondering about that horse Wayne claims he once stole that could belch music. And what do we see Wayne and MeLaan doing the first time they meet? Clearly, it was her all along!
  8. One spike, one attribute, has to be placed in the right bind point. If hemalurgy works like the other Metallic Arts (and I think we have WoB that it does in this respect) then using a spike that's not properly one of the sixteen should either do nothing or kill the recipient. I imagine you'd need to be a Savant in steel and/or iron at the very least, though some of the other stuff makes it sound like you might need something more. Like, 'looking into the Spiritual Realm' level of power. Which we know you can do with Duralumin+Atium. Are you trying to imply that what Lift already does isn't a manifestation of Awesomeness?
  9. Please oh wise masters, educate me in the Way of he who is immensely remarkable in all aspects of his existence, the Great Gold and Bendalloy'y one. Enlighten me as to what sort of offerings He prefers and whether they have to be 'traded' first.
  10. You might want to read Bands of Mourning, it gives an even better idea of what non-compounding feruchemical healing can do. As for being a Savant, I can't see that it would make a difference either way. You aren't getting the healing from burning gold allomantically, you're getting it from tapping it feruchemically. You might be able to get more health from compounding if you're a Savant than otherwise (maybe) but it wouldn't affect what you have to do in order to make use of that stored health.

Potassium was my first thought, assuming it's something we actually have an analogue for. Hmmm, maybe Aradel's banana in Shadows of Self was foreshadowing.
  12. On the 'looks like carapace but maybe it isn't' thing, I have one idea for how that might be explained but it involves currently unpublished material from White Sand. I think this should be okay but if I'm wrong and it gets delated by a moderator, I'll understand.
  13. What do you have to do in order to become a member?
  14. I think that after well over a year of hanging around Wayne, Marasi has decided to just go with the flow and let the weirdness take her where it may. And yeah, I loved that scene to death. Especially the punchline.
  15. ^ A Trails series reference? Have all my upvotes. Anyhow, given that Hoid knew all the shardholders pre-Shattering it certainly could be that he thinks Leras and/or Ati owed him money. Or he could be acting weird for the sake of it or as part of his cover. Or Up To Something. You never can tell with Hoid...
  16. Well, the Ars Arcanum for the Wax and Wayne books have repeatedly mentioned the possible feruchemical applications of godmetal alloys so I wouldn't be surprised if Lerasium eventually shows up again. And Atium too of course, especially since it's the one known as 'the lost metal' in the present day. As far as learning about any remaining Lerasium, one possible explanation is that the only beads to be found at the time were the one Hoid took and the one Vin used on Elend. Also, I think the ending of BoM might explain why we don't find out more.
  17. I'm pretty certain that the upper limit to how much weight you can store/tap means that he couldn't possibly cause time dilation effects. And since we don't get any better idea of what Wayne's 'plus effect' is in this book (at least notihng jumped out at me) the idea that he can unconsciously teleport books from our world into his works for me. But really, I think it's just a reminder that Scadrial loves a good story as much as we do and is a reminder that at some point in time, they'll figure out how to make those stories a reality.
  18. Yeah, the combination gave Elend a peek into the Spiritual Realm and a sense of the 'big picture' as it were so he knew that his death would result in Vin doing exactly what she did and that would save the world.
  19. Presumably you'd just wipe your metalmind. We have WoB that Aluminum interferes with all manifestations of Investiture and we know it can screw up Feruchemy in at least one way (aluminum in a wound prevents healing) so burning it should have a similar effect on your stored attributes if you're tapping them at the same time.
  20. Under the definition of honor that we currently have to work with, it seems so. Making promises and keeping them would fit Syl's explanation for how Honorspren work, assuming the promise doesn't conflict with the First Ideal at the very least. And if we take Nale at his word that Szeth would make an ideal Skybreaker (and assume for purposes of argument that he's not insane in this respect) then apparently you can do things that most people would say are evil (ie, murder and lots of it) while still acting withing the bounds established by the cosmic principle of 'honor'. We'll see if Szeth actually becomes one.
  21. Now I'm imagining Aradel being played by Andrew Robinson from his days as Garak on Deep Space Nine in a hypothetical adaptation. "Hidden in my drawer there is a banana. If you don't here from me in two days, I want you to take that banana. And eat it."
  22. I imagine if you weren't already Sherlock Holmes you'd need a combination of Copper, Tin and Zinc to replicate what he can do siince you need to be able to spot things (Tin), draw on knowledge that makes the observations useful (Copper) and then put it all together (which is where the Zinc would help). Sherlock's talent comes from all three of those things working together, not just being good at induction. We know Zinc on its own won't help your perception and if you don't know anything about, say, forensics, the Zinc on its own isn't going to help as much there either. Though if you can figure it out on your own you'd do it faster while tapping.
  23. One definition of honor is 'high moral standards of behavior'. All Radiants swear at least the first Ideal and as far as we know, everyone but the Lightweavers swears four more. If you follow the Ideals you progress to full Radianthood, if you don't you stop and potentially even lose your surgebinding entirely. In other words, the power comes from holding yourself to a higher standard of behavior. It doesn't really matter that one Order focuses especially on honor (however that definition is worked out in-universe), one on laws, one on uniting people etc. The basis for the Investiture is still acting in line with the Intent 'Honor'.
  24. There's already Sourcefield who had a weakness to a drink so that would be doubling up on more or less the same schtick. Still, the idea of cola as Epic repellant is inherently amusing.
  25. Oh, I intend to. Got it downloaded in Kindle and everything but I want to finish BoM first and I've only just started on it.
