  1. Pssst Don't eat the waffle. The syrup is spiked.
  2. In case anyone missed it, Tor is letting fans download the AMoL cover art for free. You don't have to be a member of the site to do it, it's open to all. My link In additional news, during the Superstars Writing Seminar I overheard Brandon saying that he's trying to convince Tor to include Darryl's sketch in the hardback edition of AMoL. What he's proposed is a pull out similar to the map in the EotW hardbacks. I hope Tor listens to him. It's only fitting that it be included so he can be involved from beginning to end. Also in memory........(of light)
  3. *Shakes head.* Scalzi has far too much fun with Papa fuzzy.
  4. I would like to announce that I am two parts joyful, two parts pleased, and one part dismayed. Bendalloy and nicrosil are finished, cadmium will be dry by the time I have to pack and chromium should be as well. Lerasium however, is being a stubborn #*&^@&^*(#*(&$(@*#&$&!!!!!
  5. I like both systems. My very first computer was an Apple IIci (Don't laugh. They were cutting edge back then). In high school we upgraded to a HP with Windows XP Office. Even though I really liked XP, a couple years ago I returned to the flock and bought a MacBook Pro. I have no regrets.
  6. That's one of the great things about living in Oregon. There's loads of famous authors here. Besides Brent, I regularly run into Jay Lake, Ken Scholes, Devon Monk, Mary Robinette Kowal (that won't happen as often now that she's moving to Chicago), and David D Levine. I've met Ursula K. LeGuin twice (she's intimidating), Timothy Zahn is at Authorfest every year.... It's a cornucopia of awesome! Bronzy, if you're on twitter, G+, or FB you can express your non-creepy love to him directly. He's on all three. However, if just the thought of speaking to him robs you of the ability to form a coherent sentence, I can still pass your message.
  7. Oh, I wasn't talking about getting one from the publisher. I meant getting one from him directly. (We're friends and he lives about 45 minutes away.)
  8. You're probably right about QBD. I'm excited for the Blinding Knife too. I'm going to try to get my hands on an ARC.
  9. CrazyRioter, I'm so glad you got to ask your question. I had a second question that was Cosmere related, but I didn't want to ask it until Brandon heard yours. I'm so glad whats-his-name followed through. (I'm still a little pissed at Gabriel for hogging so much of the time. He shouldn't have been allowed a third question.) I'm thrilled that we got this little nugget of information out of Brandon. The fact that there are other spren that can become sentient leads me to believe that not all can. I'm thinking that only Honor spren can gain sentience (assuming that they're the splinters of Honor) and ordinary spren can't.
  10. Yay! Another book slave on the site! I also work at a bookstore. We're an independent store, which of course means were far superior to B&N. Brent Weeks is one of my favorites too. Pdxtrent and I make it our personal mission to tease Brent. (He makes it so easy)
  11. Squee! Sorry, I'm still trying get all the excitement out so I can sleep tonight.

    Hi

Is there a home starter kit?
  13. Drumroll please.......Brrrrrrruuuuummmmmmmm...... Moiraine won!!!!! Ring the bells, bang the drum, and throw Elaida's unmentionables in the celebratory bonfire!
  14. I disagree. The elegance of Allomancy would translate to the screen very well. It would take a lot of CGI and wire work, but it would look fantastic!
  15. I'm so surprised by that too. When I voted earlier, she was ahead. It was a small lead, but it was still a lead. That just proves that we can't assume that she's going to win. We still have to place as many votes as we can so Team Jordan can bring home the title.
  16. The 17th? I thought it was the 18th. That's the date the G+ post gave. Plus, I don't know if this was the case for anyone else, but I had to log in to Google before I could upvote any of the questions (including mine). BTW, the sample trailor is awesome!
  17. Welcome Shardbinder! WoK is my favorite too. As soon as I finished, I wanted to go back to page 1 and start over. It's the precious.
  18. No matter how this final match goes, one of my favorites is going to win. That's pretty darn awesome. What's not awesome is that now I have to pick one to vote for. (To be honest, it'll probably be Moiraine that wins on popularity alone. Even Brent has conceded to this point.)
  19. I would like to announce that I'm coming out of retirement - from the theater, that is. Albany Civic Theater has announced that they're ending next season with Avenue Q. (Squee!) I've been aching to do this show for years! (Squee!) I can't wait to audition for the role of Christmas Eve! (Squee!) It feels a little strange to be coming out of retirement at the tender age of 32.
  20. I'm already in love with the new Cosmere book. It sounds awesome! (and that's not just my Asian prejudice talking)
  21. The new brackets are up. Right now Moiraine is in the lead but it's close and Rake has a strong following. She's going to need every vote we can muster in order to get her to the finals. I'd love to see her go up against Kylar in the finals. That would be epic. Jordan/Sanderson vs. Weeks. It's almost like pitting brother against brother.
  22. Dang it! Now I want to play Dragon Warrior.
  23. Even though the voting was supposed to end yesterday, it's still open. Time to get in some last minute votes. Right now it looks like Moiraine, Kylar, Rake, and Granny Weatherwax will advance to the next round.
  24. I would like to announce that a giant fir tree fell yesterday and narrowly missed the bookstore (while I was working). The brush with disaster made me a little punchy. While the city cleared it away I sang "I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok..."
