Yeah I'd rather they just take the time and have it out Late/Holiday 2016 (which is the current goal). We are getting plenty of books in the near future so I can wait. And I for one would rather if Peter's head did *not* spontaneously combust.

Dragonsteel Is Available... Sort of.
WeiryWriter replied to blad3mast3r's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah as Blightsong mentioned, we've known that Dragonsteel is there and readable (also available through inter-library loan) for years. I think in general Brandon would prefer if people didn't read it but won't hate you if you do. (source) And a more in-depth explanation: -
I see this argument pop all the time, and personally I just don't buy it. First of all we don't know how Kelsier came up with that time frame. Secondly there is zero reason for Harmony to continue their existence, they were put in to place by Preservation to forcefully siphon of some of Ruin's power in order to maintain the balance. Harmony is in control of both Shards, he doesn't need that mechanism. Keep in mind Rashek basically re-did most of Scadrial's geography during his Ascension. While the Well was originally relatively close to the Geographic North Pole, Rashek dragged it to a more southerly position consequently taking the Magnetic Pole with it. The Geographic Pole actually lies outside of the boundaries of the Final Empire. I believe he mentions in the Annotations how due to the lack of the ferromagnetic ash the Geographic Pole is actually hotter than the lands in the Final Empire. But it is fairly obvious from the text that Luthadel is nowhere near the Geographic Pole as it experiences a conventional day/night cycle.

Moving this to the General Discussion forum as this is not about the site.

Okay so this isn't a signing, but here is a video of one of the "panels" Brandon did:

Actually it wasn't RAFO'd, it was a definitive no.

The Shannara Chronicles TV series
WeiryWriter replied to Haelbarde's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Hey so I found video of the SDCC panel: I also found this interview with Terry Brooks and it's really clear that he is fully behind and satisfied with the show, which is a good sign. While it doesn't necessarily guarantee it will be great, it is a vital part ('cause if the author doesn't like how it was handled it's generally just bad, just look at the Earthsea miniseries). -
The most recent answer was answered four days ago, it's not too late (it may not get answered, but there's no harm in submitting the question).

Something to keep in mind is that even if Vasher had worldhopped to Roshar (which I find unlikely) it would have been after the Recreance. Warbreaker takes place between Hero of Ages and Way of Kings, and WoK takes place before Alloy of Law. If we are very generous and say Warbreaker is directly after HoA and WoK is directly before AoL (which again I find unlikely) then that puts time interval at about 340 Scadrian years. The Manywar, when Nightblood was made, took place about 300 Nalthian years before the events of Warbreaker. Now we don't know exactly how old Vasher was at that point, I don't think very old at all, but I'll be generous and say a century. That would put his Return at about 750 years-ish. We also don't have an exact date for the Recreance either, but from February's Chicago signing we now that in terms of Aharitiem it is "more recent than late" but that the Hierocracy took place after and that was at least 5 or 6 hundred years ago. It's implied, in my opinion, that there was a not insignificant amount of time between the Recreance and the Hierocracy but I'll err on the shorter said and say 2 hundred years. That would put the Receance at about 750-ish Rosharan years ago. Which frustratingly is the exact number I came up with for Vasher's age (though I will point out that Rosharan years are likely slightly longer) but keep in mind that I was overestimating Vasher's age and underestimated the Recreance's.

@Chouta I merged your post into the pre-existing SDCC thread, we really prefer to have only a single thread per event so that the forum doesn't get cluttered. Also for clarification did you actually ask the Calamity/Shard question or was that entirely a joke?

The Shannara Chronicles TV series
WeiryWriter replied to Haelbarde's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I was literally just about to make a thread about this, I am so hype! Shannara was the main series that got me into fantasy back in Elementary school, and Elfstones is my favorite. I've been following along with the news regarding this for a while now, and I'm still super excited that it is actually happening. I was really impressed with the First Look video, and while a lot of things look nothing like I pictured them they are beautiful. They're definitely playing up the post-apocalyptic angle, which really isn't as obvious in the earlier books, but makes sense given the current fascination with them in popular media. I also came across this interview with some of the cast (Allanon, Eretria, Wil, Amberle, and John Rhys Davies as Eventine) where John Rhys Davies really sings the praises of the show. I just can't wait, because it just has to be good. -

I'd just wait, it can take a while for them to get back to requests like this. Especially since Team Sanderson has been super busy recently. -
Nazh --Did I find a new Worldhopper?
WeiryWriter replied to LivesInABook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No, that's just a theory. -
Could Rithmatist be happening a couple millenia after Steelheart?
WeiryWriter replied to kroen's topic in The Rithmatist
It's not mentioned in-book (because there's no way for them to know) but Brandon has mentioned it a handful of times, such as here: (source) -
I was not there but I have found a couple tidbits online. First this short interview done by Barnes and Noble (nothing really new here): And the following question from a tumblr fan: (source)

Nazh --Did I find a new Worldhopper?
WeiryWriter replied to LivesInABook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You have found a worldhopper. Unfortunately we already knew about him (and there is a page for him on the coppermind, it's just under his full name Nazrilof, though if you searched for Nazh it should have redirected you there). -
Could Rithmatist be happening a couple millenia after Steelheart?
WeiryWriter replied to kroen's topic in The Rithmatist
There's zero reason to think that the Rithmatist world uses a different calender than the Gregorian one we use. Rithmatist takes place in 1908 (roughly, given the date on the map) and setting aside the weird gearpunk stuff they are at a more or less early 1900's tech level. And from what bits we get of the history, the parts where it doesn't diverge match up reasonably well to the real world. Also the "Master" is just their name for the Christian God, because the Church of the Monarch is a Christian sect, based on a sect that does exist in the real world. This theory is just not the case. I'm sorry. -
Could Rithmatist be happening a couple millenia after Steelheart?
WeiryWriter replied to kroen's topic in The Rithmatist
I'd say this is a definitive no, since Rithmatist takes place in a version of the early 20th Century (i.e. before Reckoners). So unless all of human history repeated itself, which is just implausible to say the least, I'd say it's just impossible. Also keep in mind that the Rithmatist-Earth is physically smaller than ours, Brandon shrunk it. And I'm moving this. -
Earth (as well as the Moon and the Sun) doesn't technically have an official scientific name (at least according to the International Astronomical Union whose job it is to name these things). The word you use changes based on what language you are speaking, but for English that word is Earth. Though sometimes the planet is referred to as "Terra" in science fiction stories and generally the word other languages use for the planet is synonymous with "earth".

I always got the impression flangria/soulcast meat was made using heliodor, not emerald, since that's how the magic works. Emeralds make plant-stuff, heliodors make animal-stuff. Also on the 9 of the 10 used in spheres thing, do you have a quote for that? And on the groupings of the Essences I've always grouped them 1/2 (as gaseous essences), 6/7 (liquid essences), 8/9 (solid essences), 5/10 (biotic essences), and 3/4 ('cause they are the ones that are left and like Spark and Lucentia sort of go together event if the soulcasting attributes don't exactly...)

So Brandon has been asked about Returned forming Nahel bonds, and while it's technically possible it's incredibly difficult: (source) Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if he is using a mechanism that we have not been exposed to yet.

Previews of Calamity Prologue + Chapters 1-2 Posted!
WeiryWriter posted a article in Brandon and Book News
Hot on the heels of yesterday's reveal of the Calamity cover art on Amazon.com comes a preview of the first few chapters of Calamity! Those of you subscribed to Brandon's newsletter will recognize a portion of this from the most recent one sent out a few months ago, though this is an extended excerpt. Read it now over on io9! I for one find this as exciting as a potato in a minefield, can't wait until the release (only 7 months and 8 days away!). Don't lament the wait though there is plenty of Sanderson-goodness coming out between now and then and the 17th Shard will be here with news on any further developments. Check out our forum topic here to discuss the chapters!-

Is it just me or does that prologue just scream "Yo I'm an Epic now"?
