Well I have always tought about the "quantity of Investiture" and the spirit web as different thinks. Your Investiture alter the spiritweb like the Heat could bend the metal, or the Radiations alter the DNA. With this interpretation Lerasium( or Atium)'s Investiture become one with the Invetiture of the guy who ate them. And this "new status quo" alters the Spirit Web. If you are a Mistborn instead, you could use the Atium/Lerasium as fuel to your "Allomancy-Engine" to gain their allomantic power. The "piercings of the Hero" appear to be things unique to the False-Terris-Prophecy to convince the people to believe Alendi (that Ruin had Spiked) was the true Hero of Ages. There isn't any kind of evidence about the use of Hemalurgy in the Terris comunity before Rashek (Rashek discovers the Hemalurgy during the Ascension, he don't know anything about before).

Ruin and Preservation investiture as a Source of Feruchemy Hi everyone! This is my theory about the Feruchemy's development on the people of Scadrial, or at least on the Terris People. The key to this Metallic Art (for me) is the Atium or to be more precise, the Ruin's Investiture. But first of all, a little backgrond on the Feruchemy: The Feruchemy was the only of the Metallic Arts to be widespread before the Rashek’s Ascension. And from the beginning of the Books seems to be “only” a genetic ability of the Terris People. After this short introduction, I could begin with the theoretical part of my theory: Feruchemy is a manifestation of Investiture of Scadrial, from Preservation and Ruin using the Scadrial’s Focus. The metals. The Feruchemy is an art of balance between the two shards, therefore the two types of Investiture in the Human Beings is very important to access to this Metallic Art. The Scadrial’s Humans has both Preservation and Ruin Investiture but the first is greater. The Humans may develop Feruchemy by changing the amount of Preservation-Ruin Investiture thay have. An “easy” and praticable source of Ruin’s Investiture is the Atium. Now we come at the Core of the Theory: The Feruchemy could be “unlocked” by increasing the Ruin’s Investiture through eating Atium. (a piece of Atium very small compared to a bead of Atium I suppose). But at this point I am not sure about what the real requirements are, I have two plausible ideas and both of them have pros and contros. Balancing the powers: The Preservation Investiture and Ruin Investiture have to be very similar in quantity(percentage). Treeshold of the two powers: The Preservation Investiture must be at least X and Ruin Investiture must be at least X (more investiture of P or R is right too). Now I will explain the global pros and contros in the theory and after the individual pros and contros of the case a and b. Pro: The Feruchemy could be “gifted” to the Terris People by Preservation through the Terris Prophecy directing some “patriarchs” to the Pits and give manipulating them to obtain the Atium (we know that the Pits was in the Terris land). In a close system, the initial catalyst of Feruchemy would be preserved quite good (while they began to cross the bloodlines, the power faded). Contro: The Hoid’s Feruchemy isn't easy to explain with this idea. Now examine the individual pros and contros of the case a and b. Case a: Balancing the Powers. Pro: Preservation may created the Terris People with the minimun quantity of his power to make them sentient. Therefore with less (if none) Allomantic’s potential and with a lower treeshold to develop the Feruchemy by adding Ruin’s power. A not Scadrial Human (like Hoid) has an very very low treshoold (or null). A bit of Preservation and a bit of Ruin could be enough, Ruin could be obtained through Atium and Preservation by the Mist (He could trick the Mist to obtain at least a tiny Preservation’s Power not enough for the Allomancy) The “Allomancy’s gene and Feruchemy’s gene don’t mix well together” are very likely to the opposite requirement to expression itself. The Ruin’s powers needed to a “not Terrisman” could be to much and lethal. A feruchemist could be the “best holder” to both Preservation and Ruin together. Contro: Rashek had an huge Preservation’s Power and mantained his Feruchemy, but maybe once you had the power, you can’t lose for just unbalancing the Investiture. Case b: Treeshold of the two powers Pro: Fullborn has no problem to exist. The “Atium’s Misting test” could be try to find a new potential Feruchemist as a source of Spike. Contro: Every nobles could potentially be a Feruchemist by eating atium (The Atium is very rare and expansive, but I think Rashek used this way to obtain Spikes for the Inquisitors). Hoid’s Feruchemy are less likely than the case a. Future Implication: With the Harmony’s Ascension now Scadrial has 2 type of Mists one of Preservation an one of Ruin and a new “god alloy”. By this theory the Harmonium could be use to became a Allomancer or Feruchemist (case a) or a Fullborn (case B ) What do you think about this theory ?

Yes the reason of the Glowing Walls of Elantris are quite exactly beeing a gigantic Aon Rao. This "peculiar glowing" mutated a fungus that could live with the "peculiar glow" (as a food) and this fungus covered everything on Elantris. When the Reod came, the glowing was turning off and the fungus began to die, the black slime of Elantris are just the died corps of the Fungus.

Sorry I was a bit unclear. My point was: If the Heralds are a Reset System to counter the mix Odium-Technology. Odium would the "Humans' Advance" and he don't want to attack Roshar. Wait, wait and eventually all Roshar could destroyed himself. But after the previos post I thought: The Heralds thinks about their leaving as a betrayal againist the People of Roshar. Something much direct of "If we leave you, in n centuries you could destroyed yourself. In my opinion, the main theory are more likely: The Herald's torture are seal that protect Roshar from direct action of Odium. When they break under torture, Odium is free to do what he want (or maybe not "all") to Roshar. If at the end of the time, the Heralds don't return in the Damnation to recreate the seal, Odium have a new "bring the Hell on Roshar" ticket.
-
Well It could be (there are other topic with similar Theories). While reading your theory there are two problems who come in my mind. 1) If the Herald are a Tool of reset for Roshar's Peoples, why Odium send them the Voidbringer aganist them? Without any menace to the Mankind, the Herald have a bad day to "reset Roshar" 2) This mechanics are quite the opposite two the Shard's Intents who are on Roshar. Honor: Preventive genocide.....I don't see the old Tanavast with this compromise. Coltivation: Is quite "Progression" and the Resetting are quite far.

It's the reason for my speculation about how really the Allomancy works, and why an allomancer could trick the Power to burn metalminds.
-
I say realmaticaly. They are Feruchemist with limitated Cognitive Aspect, they have the Human Investiture but block on the Cognitive Realm that stop them to be Sensient. Maybe the miss of a really true form could be explained by their lack of Mental Image of self.
-
Maybe if a Feruchemist store his Identity in a metalmind while create another one. The second would have a more flexible "Identity-marker" (I don't know how call it), because is based on the Minimal-Identity of the creator.
-
I had a possible explanation but is based (and work) on another theory and I don't think is the right topic to discuss. PS: With so much topic with theory for "Feruchemy's Origins" I could create another or just write under another Theory?
-
Well I like it. Or at least I like the Foundamental Idea behind it. I am not sure about the Great-Cadmium-Machine (GCM from now). It's could work, but not alone. The GCM isn't enaugh alone to explain the survival of the Southerns. Everyone will die in minutes or hours from the Sun's heat and radiation. Maybe the GCM with some couisins of yours(like steel or iron) could be used to create an Abitable Ecosystem, from a standard Humans. The GSM and GIM together could keep a cloud of metal in the air like a shield from the sunlight. Or maybe more complex system working together (something like the Matrix's survivor).

I am sorry but I don't like this theory. I very like your possibly Analysis of the Terris culture. But the method of "Feruchemy-unlock" don't convinces me. There are two major point in this Theory that can't (probably) be. 1) In the books seems that the Terrisman don't know how the Well is (if not there isn't the need of a Seeker). 2) Your "tap in the Lerasium" is actually (with a lesser effect) what happen when somebody eat the Lerasium. Adding Preservation's Power to your own. This is actually how the Allomancy spreed across the Final Empire. there is a third point but is meaningless to the Theory. 3) It's not sure that Rashek ate a bead of Lerasium, the status of Sliver of Preservation took with its more Preservation's Investiture than a Lerasium-Mistborn (but the LM come quite near in level of power). I had an alternate theory but I don't want to go OT in your topic.

I could leave one of your doubts. There is no need to be a Feruchemist to drawn from a Metalmind. The only problem is with the "Identity", but if you created a Shared Metalmind, anyone Feruchemist or not, could drawn from it. If I find the WoB I post here.

Sure but controlling a Kandra is less easy than controll a Koloss, i think is just a "number of spikes". But could be different of course Just rememeber that Mistwrath are actually just "Humans-with-Cognitive-Aspect-limitated".
-
Sure, but also if the Compounding are an Allomancy-Hack, it must have its rules. I just said how the allomancy works and how could possibly works during a Compounding.
-
The Hemalurgy work with stealing and innesting piece of SpiritWeb between beins. The result of this, cloud be something more or lesser similar to a Human Bein (Koloss and Kandra). But the requirement is that both the "donor" and the "reciver" have a Spiritual Web (or sDNA). It very like to "Magical Genetic Engineering".

Can I read Emperor's Soul before Elantris
Yata replied to Herald's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Quite true indeed. For me, reading the list of Aon (at the end of the book) with its meaning. It help me a lot to remember. Because a lot of word aren't easy to remember by its "Aonic's legacy". -
Well I had an idea, is possible but very unlikely. We know that Demoux's girl are (or was) a Terriswoman, potentially a Feruchemist. With the right knowlegment she could create a "shared metalmind" used by anyone. Therefore with a little Atiumind, Demoux could allomantically burn its and compound youth. Or maybe just the time in the Cognitive Realm has not meaning to the Humans' Biology and while you worldhop you can't age.

Rock indeed hasn't black skin (but In the whole books I thought him as black o.o ) and the same thing is true for all the Horneater. To extension, also the Jah Keved ethinc are a bit linked to the Listener (I never considereted this)
-
This is the WoB From the WoB we know that a Kandra with 4 spike (therefore a Koloss like) are susceptible like a ordinary Kandra with only two spike. So we can tell that when Tensoon was "dominate" by Vin, she must use the Standard controlling-power-for-kandra. Mmmm probably the Third Generation could match quite well the Ruin's control, but they wasn't many in the Homeland.

Well a shard with or without holder, carry a Colossal amount of Investiture with Intent, the magic are just an collateral effect. The Magic system are only a way to "Manifest the Investiture" in the Physical Realm. They exist without any Shardholder will, but like we could see in mistborn, a Shard could bend a little the "Manifestation of His Investiture" for his purpose (Ex. Preservation and the atium misting, Ruin and the crafting of Spike by unwilling peoples"). The fact that a magic system exist without any active creation. It don't mean that a Shard could not push the things, as preservation giving at the humans the "potential's allomancy" (and from a my theory also indirectly the feruchemy)
-
I didn't find the right WoB. But I found this (with less information sorry )
-
As oudeis said the cosmere's healing work with a Mental Image of you. If you suffer a mental disorder, you couldn,t be able to mantain the right mental image. Virtually a quite mindless bein who try to heal could kills himself.

The Natural & Shardic magic, is the same (maybe i was unclear before) the only difference is in the amount of Investiture. The Natural magic came with inusual concentration of Investiture Pre-Shattering, but this concentration is quite nothing compared to the amount that a Shard take with himself when come to a planet. I'm doing a fast research but at the moment I didn't find the Wob, I'll search better later. I have a exam to do in few ours

this is quite sure. To me Brandon had already used a lot (if not all) the Narrative-Resurrection-Point with Szeth and our favorite Elsecaller.
