  1. Not necessarily. I bet that modern astronomers could get very very close on exactly how far away we are from the surface of Mars, and which direction its in. Elantris doesn't have that level of mathematics yet. But give them a couple decades/unknown measuring Aon, and they might. Edit- Then again, Roshar isn't in the same solar system as Sel is (although Roshar is in the same galaxy as Silence Divine), and so it makes it much much more difficult. I don't think even modern astronomers could give a measure, to the foot, to a extrasolar planet.
  2. That's what Kykeon is saying- that even a regular rock can hold just a tiny bit of Stormlight.
  3. into Splinters of
  4. incorrect grammar makes I just realized my horrible grammer. Sorry!
  5. If I remember right, Seons have a great sense of direction. However, the distance itself was given by Kiin's son (the Elantrian savant) because he had been there before. I also believe it is the same thing with the Seons (She was able to say where Teod was because she'd been there before). No one on Sel has that experience in traveling to other worlds. Unless Seons have some magical property we haven't heard of before. However, if one was to get a Seon to Roshar and back (through Hoid? or someone else?) then they could help with direction. But perhaps they only can do it if they moved through the Physical Realm to get there. Perhaps Shadesmar would throw them off. So again I say- without another planet hopper, or a lot of mathematics/luck, Aon Tia won't get them to a planet
  6. Oh! Do you remember where? Even generally? That would be a great quote to have in the Brandonothology. It also makes me imagine the most awesome Szeth-Kaladin fight- In an exposed mine.
  7. I find it very interesting that according to these descriptions, the Elantrians just stumbled upon the city. In that case, who built the city? Where did they go? Did Aona craft the city? And how come the moved-in Elantrians had the right "spiritual codes" to become Elantrians?
  8. Wow. That article is very interesting. And yet it makes sense (to me at least). It sort of makes sense that disorder leads to more stereotyping.
  9. It might be at Brandon's request. He may have asked for a small class size so he didn't have to grade as many papers. Because he asked for a small class size, they gave him a small classroom.
  10. No! It's totally fine. I am more than willing to answer silly questions .
  11. I think he'll continue to be very subtle about the cosmere. For example, in (assumed) Hoid's letter, ninstead of saying "Ruin used to be a nice guy", which throws MB readers for a loop, he says "Ati used to be a nice guy", which may alert those who are paying close attention. So I think he'll do his best to be subtle about it, so it doesn't confuse the casual reader. He'll definately try to put in hints (like Adonalsium's name in WoK), but it will be like a door, where it isn't needed, but can deepen the work.
  12. The assumption is based off of this quote:
  13. I know! I'm amazed at how high it's going. Nearly a thousand dollars and still over a week left!
  14. Warning! Cosmere spoilers (not really though)... It comes from the assumption that many have made which is as follows: Fact: Rayse (probably Odium) splintered Aona's and Skai's shards, presumably so no one could take their powers. And he killed Aona and Skai. Fact: Splinters (like Divine Breath) are non-human objects that hold part of a shard's powers. So: Aona and Skai splintered into Splinters (assumably Seons and Skaze). So if we know this, we can go like this: Fact: Odium killed Tanavast (Honor). Assumption: Odium doesn't want anyone to take Honor, so he can remain unchallenged. So: Odium Splintered Honor. Further So: Honor splintered into Spinters, which may be: Honorspren, Shardblades, Shardplates, Spren, the Storm, etc. There is also the quote that they wanted Urithuru to be built in the West, to be closer to Honor. This could mean closer to Tanavast's body, or it could mean Honor's pool, or it could be the body of Honor (like Atium?). I now realize that was mostly off-topic. Oh well. Endra, it doesn't say in the book (that I know of). But Dawnshards sound like such awesome things, that maybe Honor gave a part of himself to make the Dawnshards (like how Endowment probably gives the Divine Breath).
  15. Wonko, you're right, I misunderstood you. Honor may not be splintered though. Kaladin sees a face in the Storm, and I personally think that it is a Shard. And since Odium probably wouldn't refer to huimself, and Cultivation is a girl, it makes sense that it is Honor. I agree that it is probably not Tanavast. But it could be someone else. Darn it! I can't use that argument for Odium, because it also refers to Honor. (Child of Honor, child of tanavast, child of one long deceased). So that doesn't make sense. Then again, maybe only a little bit (like Well of Ascention size) of power is left to Honor, and who ever replaced him (Jezrien? Maybe?) only has a slight amount of power. So pretty much disregard this post.
  16. I don't know if Sazed has to know about the Seventeenth Shard. They might, but if they are unaware that Hoid went there, they may not have gone there, and Sazed would be unaware. Then again, Hoid will likely be in AoL, and Sazed will probably notice someone planet hopping (or manipulating the Shadesmar). That will lead him to learn about Hoid, which could lead to all sorts of things.
  17. Sure! Go ahead. And I don't care if it is here with Chaos's Epic Post, or if it is displaced by it. I just thought it would be nice to have some basics for those who don't know what the cosmere is.
  18. When you become an allomancer, you become "closer" to Preservation. The Mistborn are those that are very close to Preservation. That is actually what Lerasium does. It allows any one who burns it to become closer to Preservation, and so it turns them into a Mistborn.
  19. Maybe. This is the quote we have from Brandon:
  20. If Honor Shattered into Dawnshards because of his death, then why would he be talking about Dawnshards before he died? Especially since he was kind of saying "I wish there were some again (or they could be found)."
  21. It's true. 14 just seems so... incomplete.
  22. My guess would be from the Origin (east). That is generally the direction that the Sun rises from, and I don't think Brandon would like to make that big of a change without mentioning it. Also, I think that if Honor says he's dead, and the Stormfather says that he's dead, he's probably dead. Kolo?
  23. Woohoo! $500 dollar scholarship from a random organization!
  24. It can't stop Odium. Yet. Just wait till I get my hands on a Dawnshard....
  25. I made a guide for you and other people interested! It's a pretty good intro into the cosmere, and you should check it out! Warning: The General Theory thread doesn't have any spoiler tags. So if you haven't read all the Cosmere books yet, you may want to stay away.
