  1. Speaking of which, where are those questions being asked? Does Brandon have a Q&A that we don't know about? Did he ask for an email from 17th shard for the questions? Twitter post?
  2. Really, the only reason for separation is this: Vin inherits the things that Preservation gave away, but not the things that Leras gave away. Does that make sense?
  3. Except that there were Shardplates and Blades before the Herald died. The Knight Radiants were around, and as we see in Dalinar's vision, they had Shardplates and Blades. In fact, the only magical thing that seems to have appeared since the Kinghts Radiant and now are the spren. And maybe the Soulcasters by association.
  4. *waves* Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard, the ultimate in awesomeness and coolness.
  5. I believe that Shallan and Jasnah believe right now that the Parshmen are domesticated Parshendi. Much in the same way that Dogs are just domesticated wolves. Give enough time and natural selection, and you could shape a population. But it seems a bit far to seem to extinguish cognition the way that they seem to have done. But it has been a thousand years. As for Hoid doling out the powers, I don't think so. Otherwise he would not have chosen to give Rayse Odium, because it seems like such a bad idea. I think that it may have been a group of 16 people, brought together by necessity or whatever, and then they chose which shards they wanted. Ati probably saw Ruin as more of Change, and everyone else felt like theirs fit them. They then all split up. Those that decided to work on planets together came to agreements eventually, like Ruin and Preservations, or the Oathpact. My question is, why make a pact only to break it? Oh wait... What if the Parshendi did it to be like the Heralds? The Herlads (on probably The Almighty's behalf) seem to have made an agreement with Odium to be tortured for eternities in exchange for being able to protect the people of Roshar. Then they broke it. Maybe there is some reason why the Parshendi, being perhaps the Voidbringers, feel they have to mirror the Heralds.
  6. I would like to announce that my roommate earned over $65,000 in scholarship money.
  7. I don't know about that. It seems like the reason why Preservation was so limited in what he could do was because of... Wait a sec. I was about to say because of his sentinence. Let me go back and get the right restrictions on Preservation. Leras- Cognitive- Given up to encage Ruin for thousands of years. Led to his demise. (Ghost Spirit) Leras- Physical- Appeared in the Ash after "talking" with Elend. Leras- Spiritual- N/A Preservation- Cognitive- N/A Preservation- Physical- Well of Ascention. Used up every thousand years to keep the power from unlocking Ruin's cage. Preservation- Spiritual- Given up to allow mankind to have sentience. Led to a decrease in power, though not entirely limiting. Does that look right to everyone?
  8. I'm pretty sure that what the Lord Ruler did is that he put some age into his atium-metal minds, then when he wanted a pretty face, he would burn it. This let TLR turn atium from a "future" metal to a "age" metal, and let most of the power come from the power of creation.
  9. Yep. I think it may come as a side effect of having more Preservation inside of them. Which leads up to another question- if a Non-Scadrial person ate Lerasium, would they be able to burn it?
  10. -burning list of (*sigh* If only you had written on ethe no. It wouldn't have made sense, but it would've been symmetrical.)

True, true. And sure! Why not? I just think it'll be really interesting if Brandon penetrates the queasiness of Hemalurgy and makes it not only the right decision but a noble one as well. And the best way to do that is with a noble knat with an inferiority complex who's never been able to live up to his Allomantic heritage.
  12. Hello! Having read all the books, you should be introduced to the Cosmere! Look here to get a summary, or here to get the 180 extra pages Brandon has written answering questions that all us pesky fans have asked him. Welcome Zeadman! It'll be nice to have another "z" person on this forum. There are always far too few, don't you agree?

And yet, I could see there being a secret person, a highly moral person, perhaps even a law officer, who always wore his shirt, with an odd point or to here or there, and him "snapping" in the grief after his grandfather's death. Ooh, even better, after his wife's death. Then he could be a religious figure (because of the allegory to Kelsier) who betrays one of the deepest beliefs of the religion. And yet, it isn't so bad because she wanted it done- or even better, she did it herself, because she knew she was dying. There's a couple interesting plot points that could be done with it. It could also be two officers, one a duralumin knat, the other something cool, stuck in a firefight with no hope of survival, and the knat sacrifices himself so that his friend can survive. Why is there a spike with him? Because the knat always has it with him. "Because I knew someday this would come. The day when I could become... useful." Of course, if Hemalurgy happens, it will have to be done with the blessing of Sazed, since the "bindpoints" are extremely precise. So Sazed will have to guide the hand that uses the spike.
  14. I've got an interesting question. What would happen if a Kandra injested and burned Lerasium? (I would ask about Koloss, except you've said their nature has been changed). Especially since they require Hemalurgy to have sentience.
  15. I like your reasoning. There's one flaw though- it seems as if the Almighty is still around at the times of the (thought to be) last Desolation. WoK pg. 16, KalakNow, this could be the same as when Vin still swears by The Lord Ruler's name in HoA. But I don't think so. I think this is meant to show us that the Almighty is still with Honor, and that the Heralds aren't splinters. Plus, doesn't the Almighty say something that indicates that he's been within the past 1000 years? Yep, here it is: pg 1001 This means that the Almighty has already seen the end of the Knights Radiant. How could that be if he Splintered before the Heralds? So we see that although the Almighty may have splintered, it has been fairly recently (in the terms of shards anyway).
  16. Currently not reading anything. Besides online newspapers. But I'm going to start A Wise Man's fear. Soon. PS *doesn't notice Emeralis's attempts as I am far too full of sherbert ice cream to notice*
  17. No clue. Maybe the "welcome" is Hoid's logo? And the Mistborn one is something to represent the Three Mettalic Arts? Or the Three Realms. Events actually seems like an allomantic symbol.
  18. the reason why
  19. Although I disagree with this theory of quadrants, I have a quote from WoK for you about Opposite Shards. (Although it is in-Cosmere, so it may not be entirely accurate) Now, I believe that there aren't quadrants. I just haven't seen any textual evidence to support it. I believe that some of the Shards were placed together to accentuate their differences. Mostly because redundancy is silly. Why have Endowment and Cultivation on the same world, when they seem to describe the same sort of thing? And also, I think that Hoid, (or whoever, whatever placed the shards) wanted the best chance of survival and of thriving for mankind. Or maybe they placed themselves. So to balance out Odium's hatred and destruction, Honor was placed with him. And to make sure that people actually came out of the fight, Cultivation was with them too. Endowment was left to herself, because she didn't need an opposite to do well. Ruin was placed with Preservation so that there was something to do. Like has been said, Preservation realized that he couldn't just have the planet stay the same. Neither of them could do anything without the other.
  20. Ooh. Or the parshmen are indeed the bad guys, but the parshendi are the good guys. Or vice versa.
  21. Or Jasnah will be completely wrong about it. The parshendi just seem to be too much of Honor to be the servants of Odium. (Though that could be like the Kandra, I suppose) Ooh. What if Odium has the same powers that Ruin has? As in book-changing powers? But if he does, why isn't he being more blatant about it?
  22. because he was
  23. It also may explain how the Almighty seems to be on good (and fairly recent) terms with Cultivation, but how he doesn't have Dalinar asking her for help.
  24. Yay! I'm a Hoid-in-training. And personally, I would much rather be closer to Hoid, then closer to Adonalsium. I mean look at the track record of Splinters! Since the Shattering of Adonalsium, Ruin's died, Preservation's died, Honor's died, Aona has died, and Skai has died as well. I mean 5 of the 8 shards we know of are dead! However, Hoid just keeps on living. Oh yeah. Much better to be Hoid. (even if it's just "in-training")
  25. Ooh. I just had a very odd idea. What if it's the same shard powering both? We've said before that it seems like the Old Magic doesn't really fit with Cultivation, Honor, or Odium. So what if it is the shard from Silence Divine? Or maybe there are only three shards in the Roshar/Silence Divine solar system, and Cultivation mostly worries about Silence Divine, and Honor worries about Roshar, and Odium goes back and forth, getting mad at both of them. I highly doubt it, but its an interesting idea.
