He says that there's a pretty good chance that he'll write other of these Mistborn Adventure books, but don't expect them to be so Trilogy and Foreshadowy as the Mistborn Trilogy was- he says that he doesn't dare do two (well three with WoT right now) Series at a time.

That music language sounds cool! You'r right, Brandon might decide to use something like it at some point. My only trouble is that the greatest "market" for that language would be the Court of Gods, since it is a group of people who all have the music. But then again, it doesn't take too much talent to tell the difference between a "C" and a "G". So we may see that language on some world. As for the "awaken in own language" I think that is important because the language of the Awakener is the language that his mind works in. It is the Cognitive aspect of that magic system (while Color is Physical, and Breath is Spiritual), that seems to not work when your mind translates it into another language. For example if I tried to Awaken something in Spanish, it would start out as English, I would translate it in my head to Spanish, and then I would say it in Spanish. But since the command (in my head) was originally English, it's like trying to fit a round circle in a square hole. I know, I know, after you spend a long time learning a language you can speak (and think) in Spanish without thinking. But your brain is still hardwired in English- and that's why you can only Awaken in English.

Yeah, and you may have to give it a day or two for the admins to get back home so they can make it available.

Plus it proves that you were right Chaos. Harmony can definitely read minds. How? No idea. But it's cool that he can. Also, where is Hoid? Peter has said it should be obvious (to us), but the only person who I suspected was the beggar in black who is at the Yomen Wedding, talking to Joshin and Mi'chelle. Also, I occasionaly found myself making tiny sound effects throughout the book. And I don't know why, but actually reading the physical copy of it gave me a ton clearer image of Elendel, with it's railroads, canals and skyscrapers, all of it slowly caressed by the Mists of Harmony..... Also, I find it appealing that Marasi is a more girly-girl. It's kind of nice after having Serene, with her strong personality, Vivenna, with her internal doubt and Breaths, and of course Vin, to see a girl who probably wouldn't run head first into a fight- unless her friends (or a certain more than friend?) was invovled. Someone who perfers the soft life. A Vallete. Also, I loved the High Imperial, Vindication, and the Hazekiller bullets. Awesome. As was Harmony. And Marsh. Oh! One more thing- Bettin. He acted.... odd in the end. Could it be that he is not actually Bettin? But instead a kandra, perhaps even TenSoon? A little bit of extra nudge from a certain god.... Or maybe he was shown a vision. But I don't think so. It seems like he was acting unlike himself, not like he was being influenced to say (or do) something else.

I think that the writer might be Hoid or the Seventeenth Shard. Either that or they know of them. Either way, I think it seems highly probable that it's the same person who wrote the Ars Arcanum for the Stormlight Archive at least, and quite possible other ones too. It makes me wonder though- why does he find Hemalurgy interesting? Could Hemalurgy be used to steal a non-Scadrial power? The implications of that are... daunting. If we look under Hoid's cloak, will we see little metal rings? Also, I find another thing interesting. The writer mentions that "most" of the Kandra serve Harmony. I wonder what the implications of this are. Are there evil Kandra, like the Mistwraith stories of old? Is TenSoon one of those? Is that why Bloody Tan saw him (as Kelsier) and Marsh meeting? Did they talk to him specifically? A worse question- Did they turn him into a who he became? He talks about being a "puppet". Is this a self-imposed? Or literal? Oooh. Or what if a Connector Ferring has him so crazily loyal that he has to do whatever they say. That would explain the "puppetness". Questions questions questions.... And I love the sort of stories that these powers open up. I mean the slightest change in characters could be explained by any number of these. And I love that Fortune is a real and present thing that can be influenced. As well as Calories. Yum.

Welcome! We're glad you're here. I agree with you that Dalinar is a Surgebinder. However, I am under the impression that it is under Honor, and that the boon he asked of the Nightwatcher (who may or may not be Cultivation- she may be a Herald, some funky spren, or something else entirely) is unrelated. First, points that Dalinar is a Surgebinder- The "glittering" of Shardplate when he was fighting the greatshell. It seemed to work better, stronger, while Dalinar was protecting Elhokar. The legendary "Blackthorne", how he moves naturally in Shardplate (like Kaladin moves naturally with a spear) Second, points that Dalinar's powers came from Honor- Kaladin's spren took a while to show up. He was accessing some of the Stormlight before he realized Syl was there (if you look back to where he's fighting the Shardbearer, and the fighting before that, some of the bystanders mention an "almost glowing"). It's not odd to think that Dalinar is still unaware of his spren. Dalinar is getting visions from Honor. He tells Dalinar to help the KR rise again, to unite mankind. It seems to be pretty hard to do that if you aren't a KR yourself. The other problem I have with your theory is that it seems like you have to ask for a specific Boon of the Nightwatcher, and then she gives you a Punishment. You ask something of her, and she asks something of you. I suppose that someone could ask to have the powers of a KR. However, I don't think Dalinar would do so. He originally doesn't have such a high opinion of the KR, but maybe with the death of his brother, he decided to go off the deep end.

I find it very profound in a rambling sort of way. The symbolism just blows me away. I mean seriously, look at the strength and dignity of the partially seen dog- and don't forget the fact that we can see only the bottom quarter of the dog. This, as well as the dog itself, leads the viewer to begin thinking about the strength and power that comes from the power of the industry. We only see a partial result from the industry around us- most of it is out of our view. So likewise is the dog in the picture. Industry not only creates useful things, but also nasty things. From weapons to pollution, we have many diverse negative products that the average user tends not to know or care about. Same with the dog. We only see the bottom quarter of the dog's head- we don't see the teeth that may hurt or maim the viewer, or the other orifices, where the unused and waste products of the canine's work is produced. Not only that, but we do not see the mouth. Americans are unaware of the massive product use that industry uses- because, quite frankly, we don't care. It's not from our area, it's not our resources, and so we tend to be fine with exploiting any resources that we need to to receive the product we desire. What does the average Western society member care about? The pollution around him. Same in this picture. The reason why our dear Some1else was identified as a "troll" is because even the most open-minded forum user does not enjoy seeing a dog drool, just as those exact same people will protest to an opening of a new trash lot nearby, or smoke from a nearby factory. They want the products of these things- they want to have toys, and they want to have power- they just do not want these things near them. They do not protest to a new weapons factory 100 miles away, or to a nuclear waste dump in Arizona. These poor uncultured users tend to see only the picture displayed in front of them instead of the whole picture- a picture of an uncaring America who cares only about their neighborhood instead of the world around them. No, Some1else, that picture shouldn't label you a troll- it should label you a genius.

Fundamental Misunderstanding - Preservation & Ruin
Zas678 replied to Triumvirate's topic in Mistborn
I think so. warning, slight Warbreaker spoilers I'm going to go on a limb here, and say that's what happens to Nightblood. It isn't that his mind is constantly saying "destroy evil", it's that that's the only thing that he can do. The mechanics of how the magic works is based off of Endowment, but his actions are determined by his Command. -
Hmm.... (time at 1:30) I didn't know that that was what Rashek looked like....

Oh, I see what you mean. By 4 generations, I just meant 4 cycles of the well.

Fundamental Misunderstanding - Preservation & Ruin
Zas678 replied to Triumvirate's topic in Mistborn
Eh. The annotations won't help you too much. In regards to this: I have this quote, answered pretty recently in the Reddit 2.0 Q&A: -
Man. That would be totally sweet. Unlikely, but sweet.

I agree. I think that Nohaden didn't actually set up the KR; he just created the environment that allowed the KR to thrive and be successful, as well as a model for them to follow.

Since this seems pretty WoK specific, I'm going to move that over there. I don't remember Parshendi or Parshmen having Arrowlike faces. I remember Hoid having an arrowlike face, and the big monsters that Dalinar sees during Nohaden's time having arrow faces, but that's it.

Fundamental Misunderstanding - Preservation & Ruin
Zas678 replied to Triumvirate's topic in Mistborn
The annotations for HoA were out quite a while before WoK. Warbreaker was before and after WoK. And truth be told, most of it came not from the annotations, but from the HoA Q&A that Brandon had during his tour. There he had very few RAFOs, because he wanted us to get started with the Shards. The Intent quote is there, the Power of Creation quote is there, the (very basic) Realmantic theory was there, as was some about Hoid. EDIT- I should probably contribute to the conversation. Intent of a shard only matters for two things (as we know of know). The mechanics of the magic, and the "taint" on the Shardholder's mind. The power that the Shardholder has at his possession is able to do whatever he wants, but what he wants to do is hindered by what his mind wants to do. (Warning! Portal 2 spoilers below!) An example of this is Wheatley when he gets control of the facility. He suddenly becomes obsessed with testing, because that's what the "taint" of the power of the facility has on his mind. I guess you could say that the Facility represents the Shard of Testing. The power is able to do other, non-testing things. It's just that once you have the power for too long, you don't want to do anything BUT test. That is, unless you have awesome willpower. Which is what I think Leras had. I think that he did his best to maintain the creation that he wanted to do, perhaps keeping it in a "separate" part of his mind much like Marsh did. -
4098 years as a short time? At about 2000 BC for us, Abraham was apparently founding Judaism, Stonehenge was finished, and horses were first tamed and used (accoding to wikipedia). I thing the biggest evidence of it being a longer time is the quote that Ruin was extremely precise in orchestrating TLR's death within 2 years of the that the Well was filled. But 2 years in 4098 is still about .05% I consider that pretty accurate. But you could be right. I had the impression that the betrayl was recent-ish, that there had been peace for a while between them, but that Preservation saw what must be done, so he betrayed Ruin. But the betrayal could've gone on for a much longer time than that.

The Rest of the Staff, According To Will
Zas678 replied to Shivertongue's topic in Introduce Yourself!
They really aren't that bad, once you get used to the odd holes in your clothing. I completely support everything that- HELP ME I"M BEING LED BY A CONSTANT STREAM OF EMAI- Ignore that. Sometimes I go into completely false bouts of craziness. Long live 17th Shard! -
Yes, the mists were a new thing for Alendi's time- that's why he was one of the first Allomancers, because you can't have natural mistings without mists. The Deepness came pretty quick. This reason why (people hearing about the well) is where I think the prophecies come in. They are the reason why I think it's 4 generations ago instead of just 2. But by the 3rd generation, when Preservation's mind had weakened, he needed another thing to show them the exact way to the well. Thus he introduced the Mists, which awakened Allomancy in people, but only a few at the beginning. Alendi was one of these few. Then a little while later, (perhaps even immediately) Ruin tainted the mists, fueling them with power and making them suffocate the land. This lead Alendi to desperation, leading him to the prophecies that spoke of a power, a power that might be able to use to save the land he worked so hard to protect- but only if he gave up the power.

Yeah, but don't worry too much about it if you want a low number. For WoK, my sister went in at like 8:00 on the day before, and still got like #57 EDIT- I think. I don't actually have her copy of WoK with me. I'll have to check....
