  1. I dont think there would be any more than the 2 gravity lashings, they're actually quite broad when you think about it, affecting the way gravity pulls on an object and the gravitational pull of an object in general terms, there doesnt seem to be any more to do with gravity, pressure I think could be used for more than we've seen for sure, but gravity is already pretty versatile.
  2. That can't be true, in Dalinar's vision of the recreance the soldiers are able to use the shards straight away, at the very least the blades, and if they hadn't been able to use the plate they wouldn't have had the understanding to modify it, because they still dont. On what Aoibheann said, did he not glow till after he dropped the blade, or did it not fit to in the prose to write that he was glowing before then, or even did Adolin not notice the glow until he was stationary, he was after all moving even faster than people who are crazy fast due to plate can move (Super crazy fast? is that the right term here?).
  3. The heralds are all still alive, I can't remember what the source for that is, but Brandon has commented that we would be surprised how many of them appear in WoK.
  4. I just watched a movie called Red Dog, its an Australian movie about a rural mining town most of the characters fit Australian stereotypes but I really liked it because they also felt really authentic, as someone who has lived in outback Australia I could see myself walking into that pub and finding that conversation. It was also entertaining, which I generally feel is the most important aspect of a film.
  5. You can do that yourself in the bottom left of the post there are a series of buttons, one of the ones you should see on your own posts is the delete button.
  6. Where is the pressure in that scenario? I thought it seemed more likely to be some kind of electromagnetism
  7. That is an interesting theory. Assuming Taravangian is Jezrien, what did he go to the old magic for? and how has he kept his immortality secret? Im not sure its plausible for a king to be a herald, unless he somehow killed the real/original Taravangian when he went looking for the old magic... but that doesnt seem to fit for me.
  8. Clearly if you're going to finish that early you're starting too early. All nighters are where its at, that said, I'm on holidays so you know
  9. but what did he do with the stormlight? if he had absorbed all that stormlight surely he would have noticed. Also I would have thought that shardplate would have safeguards against that happening, but that could just be me...
  10. Ahh, I knew there was a mistake so I used the one off the wiki assuming it would have been fixed, but its wrong too. there goes my attempt at being intelligent, I'll (try) and fix the wiki
  11. or it means we have one of their orders wrong. Also, I think they could quite easily be orders 5 and 6. Jasnah is extremely Confident in everything she does, and has been pointedly just more than once. And there has been very little argument for Shallan to be any order other than 6 except to fit with Jasnah being learned and giving for order 2.
  12. I suspect a large part of Hoids cover is the sheer mass of humanity, assuming the amount of power needed to world hop is not overly large maybe the shards only notice him if he makes himself known, or they're directly observing his landing point as he lands which is incredibly unlikely, and once hes there he doesnt really stand out that much from any other person until the shard takes a closer look, which it has no reason to. Another possibility/factor is that maybe the Seventeenth shard members bumbling around muddy the waters as well/further. Alternately its possible that World Hoppers are more common than we've seen so far, and that some worlds in the cosmere (say, where Hoid is from) are more cosmere aware and have numerous people capable of world hopping and that Hoid popping in and out of worlds is not unheard of for the Shards. (I dont think this is likely, but its a possibility)
  13. Im not sure what the first fantasy I read was, I know I read LotR when I was about 11, I read Dragonflight when I was 9 and then moved 1200km across the state and couldnt remember the name of the book, or ask the person who lent it to me, my first year 4 teacher (I moved mid year, 1200km=way too far to commute, so new school, new teacher) but at that stage I was basically reading everything I could lay my hands on I read the first 2 Harry Potter books sometime there too, but didnt read the rest until later (the first 4 were out, I just didnt like them). By the time I was 12 I would borrow a book from the school library and return it the next day, everyday. At the same time I had a friend who was a massive starwars nerd and I borrowed his EU books, 3 or 4 on a thursday when I met with him as a mentor and I would return them on Sunday at church, it started to become more directed at fantasy when I rediscovered McCaffrey and then discovered Gemmel, then a guy I was in a book shop trying to buy a kids book and one of the staff asked me what other books I liked and when I mentioned Gemmel and McCaffrey he talked me into buying Pawn of Prophecy by Eddings, and that was it for me... the only nonfantasy novels I've read since have been required texts at school.
  14. I dont think any of the magic other than the Aons is related to geography, even the aons I think are while based on geography not dependent on it. I think the only reason they are stronger near elantris is because the elantris Aon is making them stronger, I think that rather than the Aons getting weaker as you move away from elantris they get stronger as you move towards Elantris it magnifies the power of the Aons you cast. The Elatntrians themselves dont seem to be affected by moving away from Elantris, just their spells. This (I think) is because their connection relies on the standard connection to the Dor that all the magic systems do, while the Aons are normally enhanced by the city of Elantris.
  15. Its interesting, plausible and I like it. It fits what I assume to be the character of Hoid and is just the sort of detail that I can see Brandon putting in to add depth without telling us about.
  16. but you should start a thread where it wouldnt be off topic, cause thats a really interesting idea, it seems to fit the sort of person I've always viewed Hoid as without really having anything to go off, although I've never really considered it before.
  17. I dont think we've heard if Dalinar is draining his spheres, we certainly havent been told he isnt. It seems to me that despite his obvious wealth Dalinar would be less likely than Kaladin to be carrying a pocketful of spheres and notice that he was draining them, he has servants to handle the money for him, his most common contact with spheres would be lights in corridors and if he was draining them he wouldnt notice, his servants would, but we wouldnt hear about it.
  18. some one else mentioned that possibility somewhere too, the worldsingers as radiants, it does seem pretty good, but Sigzil was trained by Hoid, who isnt a Radiant, so unless there is something we dont know and someone else taught him to surgebind he can't know how to surgebind and yet is still a full worldsinger. Other than that I kind of like the idea, it would be cool. Although it does raise some questions, like why didnt he notice Kaladin drawing in stormlight and help teach him how to do it/use it, if he was secretly a member of an order of scholarly radiants they would have to understand all the powers of all the radiants extremely well. Also, which order would they be? the only traits that seem to fit are pious/guiding and learned/giving and neither seems expecially relevant to Sigzil.
  19. Yes but what he's saying is at some point in that series Hoid ends up holding/being Adonalsium and then it is shattered while Hoid is holding it, its at the very least plausible even if we dont any evidence for (or against) it. Its an interesting theory, not sure where I come down on this one...
  20. Thats an interesting point, everyone has been wondering about books but in world, the worlds with multiple shards are a lot rarer than we've seen evidence for, as indeed are the worlds with even one shard, why are the shards where they are, with the shards they are with? We know ruin and preservation were together because they were so perfectly opposed that they pulled each other together (essentially), but why would Hate (Odium), Cultivation and Honour be drawn together, on top of Bavadin's Shard (which we dont know the name of) which is close enough for us to expect it to have some influence even if we dont see it the WoK or even the entire SA. Also why Dominion and Devotion again I can't see a logic to that off the top of my head, it makes for a cool story, which is obviously why Brandon did it (I assume) but whats the in-world reason?
  21. Ok, I wanted to read Sanderson first, but I found WoT and read them in about 2 weeks while I was still trying to get my hands on Mistborn (all 3), I ended up borrowing it off my mate after he finished with it. I definitely prefer Sandersons writing though, but this confusion makes it difficult to know how to vote
  22. I haven't reread warbreaker since I found out about the cosmere but I always assumed that the force that was returning people was Male, perhaps slightly effeminate, but definitely male, the whole returning system felt like a male idea, especially when people are returned in order to sacrifice themselves for a greater good, its a bit stereotypical but girls in shows and movies always seem to not get why that would be so attractive to the guys, case in point every war movie girlfriend ever.
  23. I agree with the second person being from Nalthis, but we can cross Lightsong and Llarimar off the list, I know Lightsong died and I'm fairly sure Llarimar did too, even if he didn't he wasn't immortal, unless he returned which seems unlikely to me... for some reason.
  24. People keep mentioning the space faring mistborn as a possible crossover, we know Hoid is a world hopper, what about the Dragonsteel books and that series is about Hoid (I think...?) why wouldnt the later books involve another world, or worlds as he learns to world hop and begins his journey.
  25. due to the many numbers in it my name is difficult to pronounce in full and is generally abbreviated to dj, pronounced Dee Jay... fairly simple...
