Another issue: Taln returned to warn Kholinar at the end of WoK, while Pai was not executed until after part 4 of WoR.
-
I suspect that the Bondsmith spren are a special case. The Sibling, Stormfather, and Nightwatcher all were sentient prior to forming a bond with their Bondsmith. Also, the bond may be stronger due to the Bondsmith's innate Spiritual Adhesion. I suspect they have significantly less spatial limitations.

I haven't heard the audio book. That does seem to rule out the Nightwatcher.

This is a good point. It just occurred to me reading your post that Cultivation is able to shapeshift, it is quite possible that she replied to a Singer as a femalen.

Yeah, Taln was the only Herald sent to Braize the last time. In addition, all sources talk about it, as well as Ash saying that the rest of the Heralds abandoned him.
-
I think its the Nightwatcher. We know that the oldest spren had 4 genders, and that they were cognitive creations of the Singers. Cultivation certainly predates humanity's arrival on Roshar. The Nightwatcher meets visitors to the Valley to learn to understand humans better. The Nightwatcher is on the same level as the Stormfather, who can accept the Words. Therefore, it is likely the Nightwatcher, as she seems to check all the boxes.

theory Lights, Intents and physics
Brgst13 replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I disagree with your characterization of anti-Light. The Intent seemed to me simply being Navani's intent to create anti-Voidlight. It seemed like the anti-Light was produced by inverting the frequency of Voidlight's tone, so that it created the Investiture equivalent of antimatter and destructive interference. It does not seem necessary to involve other Shards here, as it only required Odium's tone and Navani's Intent.- 47 replies

[RoW and Cosmere] The number of possible Lights
Brgst13 replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
16-part harmony anyone? On a related note, could Harmony's name be a double entendre relating to both harmony between Ruin and Preservation as well as the musical harmony necessary to balance them? -
[RoW and Cosmere] The number of possible Lights
Brgst13 replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I ran the numbers of all possible combinations, excluding any combination that included both a light and its anti-light, for a grand total of...84,254,356 different Light combinations when light and anti-light are included. -
Not necessarily, Adonalsium could be the source of both. Adonalsium's creation could easily have the same asymmetry in Investiture that our universe has in matter. If the amount of Investiture, matter, and energy is constant, as it appears to be, that suggests that the total has been consistent since Creation. If anti-investiture were to be annhialated by regular Investiture, then a small amount of regular Investiture would remain. Every time an atom or photon were converted to Investiture, there is a 50-50 chance that it would become anti-investiture. If it did, it would annhialate and go back through the cycle. If it were regular Investiture, it would remain as Investiture. This would lead to a gradual, slow accumulation of regular Investiture. Therefore, it is unnecessary to have any deity beyond Adonalsium to explain the lack of free anti-investiture.
-
I disagree that anti-investiture implies anything about an opposite of Adonalsium. Brandon has stated that physics works similarly in the Cosmere to our own universe. In our universe, antimatter exists without any evidence tying it to a bifurcated deity. All the presence of anti-investiture suggests is that the Investiture quantum particle has an opposite. Inverting the tone could simply change one of the quantum numbers to its opposite. Also, Navani is very close to some of the equations of Investiture Relativity, if she could measure discrete units of Investiture and the explosive force generated at annhialation. At any rate, it is likely that Autonomy is the Shard attacking Scadrial.

The Sibling told Navani that if Raboniel was able to find all 4 gems, it would become an Unmade. This got me thinking. It seems then that Unmade are created from spren corrupted by Voidlight. However, these do not seem to correlate with known spren orders. We know that the nine roughly correlate to orders of Knights Radiant. My theory is that each of the ten Surges had a spren associated with it. Nine of these have been corrupted, and turned into the Unmade.

Well that shoots that theory down. The only other known wodhopper on the Coppermind list that comes close is Elrao.

No but he does strongly resemble Felt.

Pretty sure Cultivation is the dragon. Also, Tod had best be careful meddling in the affairs of dragons. He is crunchy and tastes good with ketchup.

Shallan, Venli: Chaotic Good Kaladin, Navani, Teft: Lawful Good Dalinar, Szeth: Neutral Good Nale: Lawful Evil Taravangian: Neutral Evil Moash: Neutral Neutral (or Evil) Mraize, Kalak: Chaotic Neutral Other ideas?

Did anyone else notice that it was Dalinar, and not the Stormfather, who accepted Kaladin's Fourth Ideal? I wonder if this is an aspect of Bondsmith powers in general, which would be...terrifying (Ishars Knights anyone?), or if he is somehow Connecting to the remains of Honor. On another note, I would love to see Dalinar reform Honor during the clash of champions and have Kaladin take up the Shard and lay an epic whupping on Tod. A spear in the Spiritual Realm...

Do we have a good description of Nazh? We know he has visited Shadesmar several times, and often takes notes or reads others' notes. I could see Khriss sending him there since a lot of interesting things are happening on Roshar right now.

How about Toad? And that epilogue...wow...I have no words. Terrifying.

Why the “Dawn” Prefix All Over Roshar

Thanks, I couldn't seem to locate it. It makes a hell of a lot of sense. -
Why the “Dawn” Prefix All Over Roshar
Brgst13 replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've heard a theory that the Poem of Ista was written by a Sleepless and a hordeling was carrying the Dawnshard. We know that the Heralds are normal sized, so the steps would likely be as well. However, to a hordeling they would be huge. -
Dawnshard Spoiler about Hoid! And everything else!!
Brgst13 replied to Eternal Khol's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Holy crap! I didn't put that together but it makes total sense! I wonder if that is why he is unable to hurt other beings. It would explain why he does not fear Jasnah's Shardblade. -
So there are four Dawnshards, each connected to a Command. There are 16 shards. I wonder of the four Dawnshards each had a set of four Shards associated with it. Also, I think Ishar used the Dawnshard to change the Heralds into Cognitive Shadows in order to create the Oathpact. I am thinking this because the Dawnshard has the command of Change, and something formed them into Cognitive Shadows. Also, the Sleepless insist that Rysn never bond a spren. Why? Are they afraid of combining the power of a Dawnshard with Surges?

Just finished the book. 158 pages...just so much in there! Sleepless Dawnshards Just. So. Good!

By molecular life, do you mean bare self-replicating nucleic acids? Or are you talking about single-celled organisms? For any photosynthetic organism, a speed bubble is likely to be difficult because they will be photosynthesizing at a higher rate relative to oncoming solar energy. Effectively, sunlight could become an issue because the photons would be accelerated on reaching the edge of the speed bubble. Therefore, they will be more spread out, which means a less regular supply for plants. The other possibility is that the speed of the photons remains constant, but the reactions in the plants would be sped up. This effectively results in the same issue. If photosynthesis is constant (sunlight is still not limiting), then plants would be able to generate sugar faster, and produce more oxygen. This would result in a higher atmospheric oxygen content, altering evolutionary paths and possibly creating a more severe "snowball planet" effect as carbon dioxide is more effectively removed from the atmosphere. I also think that a planet-wide speed bubble would require a mass of Investiture that can only be achieved by mechanizing Dalinar's ability to open Perpendicularities. Tl;dr: The effects of a speed bubble on sunlight would likely warp the path of evolution, assuming you could get enough Investiture to do such a thing.
