Is this a thing now? Alright. Hit Feather up with some Qs!
Adamir replied to FeatherWriter's topic in AMAs
Edit: I just realized tone doesn't survive the transition to text; sorry for how rude the question was when I read it back to myself. -
Reading this in 2015... You were right!

I fear I have stirred up some animosity between myself and Renarin critics. How about a bonding exercise? Grab your rifles and join me around this barrel of live, defenseless fish, because nothing cheers me up more than criticizing a character everyone hates and no one will defend (Amaram).

If I have the description of 'Slayer of the Fourth Wall' for my character, I'll have to keep re-using the joke until it gets old. I'd like to change my character name to Baatar Zaofu; the extra A makes a world of difference. I can deal with the title for now.

I'll be Adamir, Bearer Of The Awkwardly Long Title That Rolls Off The Tongue Like Swimming In A River Of Bricks Or if that doesn't work, I'll be Adamir, Prince of Slow Writers One question; how exactly does the guild work? Do we just submit what we write in here? -

The Worst That Could Happen Foundation
Adamir replied to Kobold King's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I read through the first four pages, meaning that someone has probably made this joke first, but, well... here goes. Currently reading through the entire thread to get appropriate context. 'Commander, the council has authorized you to activate... the XCOM project.' -
Helpful tip - if you feel your post-reputation ratio is getting a bit low, go to the Sanderson Memes thread and put down any image with a caption vaguely related to one of his books. 10-30 upvotes or your money back. Disclaimer: I did not realize the rep gold mine it was when I first put two captions there; and no, I am not planning to post again (though temptation may strike), as it seems a tiny bit unfair to get 22 rep for three minutes of effort (most of which was finding a website to make the memes on) compared to one hour of theorizing.

The autocorrect Voidspren got to you, then. All right, back on topic. "Of course I'm storming sure, I trained as a surgeon for my entire childhood," Kaladin said, breathing in while placing a hand on one of Adolin's gemstones.

Kaladin knelt beside the Highprince's son, checking for wounds.

Think of the situation with his Blade this way. Renarin: Hey, brother, remember that priceless relic you gifted me with? Adolin: Yes, what about it? Renarin: Well, it seems to be screaming at me. And all logic points to me just being insane, but could you let me give you the ultimate insult and throw away a priceless relic that you risked your life for? I agree with what you said about Renarin trying to be a soldier. I wouldn't say its what he wants to be, but Alethkar is a military based nation. Being a soldier is the highest calling in their religion. Of course there is pressure for the Highprince's son to join the military; it would be shameful to House Kholin to refuse.

I would suggest looking at the intention behind the action. He took the Shardblade and Plate because, judging by Amaram and Adolin's reactions when they offered Kaladin the same, refusing it is an insult to the giver. At least he actually tried to help his brother during the duel; I would protest against what you stated on Renarin displaying no intelligence during the duel. He saw what was happening to his brother; it wasn't a duel, it was an execution. He knew the other Shardbearers were actively trying to cripple/kill Adolin. Yes, it was reckless, yes, it may have done more harm than good, but in that situation, without stopping to think, during which time Adolin could have a Shardblade sticking out of his spine, there are only two reactions most people would take. Do absolutely nothing, like 99.8% of the spectators. You can come up with your own reasons for it; you would embarrass yourself in front of Lighteyed society, Sadeas offered to bribe you, you could get killed, etc. Actually try to help Adolin. For what its worth, I am glad Renarin tried to help Adolin. Unlike the entire Lighteyed population of Alethkar, he didn't make excuses for doing nothing to help Adolin. I would say that one scene shows Renarin as he actually is; someone with enough empathy to try to help another human being with no regard for himself. As you said, 'look at his actions throughout the book objectively without emotion'. That completely misses the point of characterization; allow me to give you two examples, Kelsier and Eragon. Look at what they both did. Eragon: Overthrew a tyrannical empire, became one of the most powerful magic users alive, and helped bring a resistance movement to victory. Kelsier: Overthrew a tyrannical empire, became one of the most powerful magic users alive, and helped bring a resistance movement to victory. Now, how about their characterization? Eragon: Blandy McBlandson, the blandest human being to walk the earth since Desmond Miles. Kelsier: Optimistic by necessity, with a boulder-sized chip on his shoulder and conflicting motivations. An ego that could only be contained by starting his own cult, and uncertain whether he is fighting for justice, revenge or fame. Now, by an objective standpoint, Eragon is just as good a character as Kelsier. To conclude my argument, do not judge a character by what they do (except, and note the hypocrisy in these words, except Szeth), but by what they intend. Do you hate Vin for releasing Ruin, or Kelsier for starting a chain of events that led up that moment? If not, then there is no logical reason to hate Renarin.

I would say that the films, series and games you were referring to are the bad ones. A good video game (in terms of storyline) won't tell you everything, but give you the hints you need to visualize it in your own head.

If the downvote were removed, then it would just bring more emphasis onto what I, personally, look for when judging a user; rep point to post ratio. My personal formula is that someone with two posts per rep point is a contributing member of the forum, someone with an equal rep/post ratio is not just an active poster, but an intelligent poster, and someone with a 2/1 rep to post ratio is someone worth paying attention to. I wouldn't apply this to admins and moderators, though, because a large majority of their posts involve answering other peoples' questions in as clear a way as possible so as to be understood, rather thankless work in my opinion. However, we would still have the problem of when someone posts something offensive/disturbing/off topic, but which isn't breaking any rules. For example, imagine the following. Sanderson Elimination: Yup, you lynched me; I was an eliminator. By the way, my fellow eliminators were (name), (name) and (name). Any RP: (My character) then proceeds to brutally murder your character via (insert description here). Yeah, yeah, I'm not allowed to rp other peoples' characters, or kill them without their permission - but do I look like I care about that? A Theory: But if this happens, it means there would be no (Character)/(Character) pairing. Your theory is completely wrong, and I storming hate it with every fiber of my being. General Discussions: Someone brings up something offensive relating to genocide, terrorism, etc. Fan Fiction: I dislike this pairing, therefore I will rant at this fanfiction until my fingers drop off. In conclusion... I have no idea where I was going with this. Except for the fact that the disadvantages of removing the downvote system are greater than the advantages.

Batar clutched a thin knife in one hand, concealed beneath his cloak. He decided he was too tired to rp, and just submitted his character name and the first sentence of said rp, and finally called emergency services for the fatally wounded fourth wall.

Names for all 256 Twinborn Combinations (+33 bonus Atium Twinborns)
Adamir replied to kroen's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I put a meme on the Sanderson Memes page that I spent all of three minutes making - two of which were finding a website for making memes. And it got seventeen upvotes. Please, what the hell is wrong with this forum? Someone puts in 4-5 hours of work to make this, and I put sixty seconds to think of a good caption for Grumpy Cat. Please, this needs more upvotes. -
Something for Shallarin - starts sobbing uncontrollably - WHYYYY? via Imgflip Meme Maker
-
Rust and ruin, you infected me with your Shallarin obsession. I read the fanfiction you put online, your analysis, and was completely convinced that there would be Shallarin. I had to physically put the book down and try to catch my breath at the 'gag him' scene. First, I wanted to kill Adolin for the possibility of Shallolin. Then Kaladin for the possibility of Shalladin. Then Shallan for extinguishing the possibility of Shallarin... via Imgflip Meme Maker

If you swapped your sniper rifle for a shotgun, you could probably kill them in 1-2 shots from close range. The shotgun also works wonders on bullet-sponge bosses a lot faster than your other weapons. The only problem is that you need to get right in front of your opponent to hit them with the weapon's full damage - otherwise known as the antithesis of the gun; aka to hit stuff you can't just lean over and punch.

A few hours earlier, I requested permission to write my own death. If it is granted, here's the death, as I'm signing off for the night (1 AM in my timezone). Mennet sighed, gripping the spike. 'Any last words?' Gavin whispered. Mennet turned around dramatically, pulling on black sunglasses and stabbing the needle-thin Atium alloy spike into his ribs.. Power flowed back into him as he suddenly became the most powerful and awesome - and strikingly handsome and intelligent, if I do say so myself - Mistborn/Feruchemist in existence once again. Everyone on board gasped at the sheer amazingtalityness, and the heads of his accusers exploded via being overloaded with awesomeness. He duralumin-flared bronze and zinc, detecting every Coinshot on the train and overriding their thoughts with self-loathing until they leaped under the train tracks. Next, he used an absurd mastery of Pushes and Pulls to fire Gavin's bullet back into his face, tapping stored weight (don't ask where the Ironmind was, I have no idea). Finally, he walked into the sunset as something exploded dramatically behind him. He then proceeded to give the most amazing, witty, intelligent and awesome one-liner in the entire Cosmere, before Worldhopping to a less depressing game of mafia somewhere in the Koprulu Sector. Wait, I need to write one where he actually dies? Well, I've got no ideas. Just write it however you want - although I would highly recommend the same series of events be followed.

Well, if I vote for myself as I had planned, I will die tonight. Sorry, Orlok, but look at it this way - its only my vote, you won't get killed. I love getting money and I love not dying; so I'm voting for you. Also, do you want evidence of my innocence? How about this - I will set my seating arrangements (if no one robs me with delicious cusine) to put myself in the one room where I can be roleblocked (forget what its called). I will keep moving myself back there every day, and getting myself roleblocked each time, until you are convinced.

@Araris Valerian via Imgflip Meme Maker (Words of Radiance, epilogue) Mennet Farrsolin Mennet held the bottle of wine in one hand, tipping it over and watching the last few drops trickle out over the balcony which used to belong to Lord Tarwick Obilig. Seran was his, fully and entirely... and Lord Ruler, it was expensive. 'How much coinage did you say they wanted? Twenty five thousand?' 'Actually, my lord, the amount was-' 'Don't chide me, skaa. I'm going blind, not deaf. Twenty six thousand two hundred and fifty three boxings, for... administration?' The bottle clattered to the ground, a few thin cracks spinning across its length. Twenty six thousand. Twenty. Six. Thousand. And that wasn't even the end of it; his investments in the mining industry had demands for payment that would soon become hard to meet. The Luthadel Central Canal was just about paying for itself, and he was planning to leave two children - soon to be three - to deal with all of that? 'Seran,' he whispered, 'is the most powerful military fortress outside of Luthadel itself. The men here don't fight for a king, or for a lord, or for a religion... No, the men here fight for an identity, as the Serani. If I let them keep that identity, they will fight for me. Think of what I could do with an army like that...' Thoughts began to float into Mennet's head. There was a way to recover the coinage he needed, but the merchants wouldn't like it. 'Skaa,' he sighed, 'write this down.' Should the skaa be allowed to read and write? If said skaa were to be secretaries, then of course; but he'd have to regulate the skill in the general populace. 'I, Mennet of House Farrsolin,' he began, 'Lord Regent of the great fortress of Seran, First of his Name, Spreader of our Lord Ruler's light in the Eastern Dominance, hereby decree that merchant caravans travelling on the Luthadel Central canal are to willingly submit a fraction of the gains from any goods brought into and sold in Luthadel, ranging between one part in twelve for products moving in bulk to one part in eight for products selling in small amounts. This fraction is to be known as the Luthadel Canal tax, with intentions to regulate mercantilism and evade hyperinflation. 'I also dictate that any and all soldiers commanded by, employed under, or swearing allegiance to, House Erikell are to be denied right of travel upon the Luthadel Central Canal if they are moving east. Any merchants seen in the company of Erikell soldiers and/or mercenaries are to be denied right of travel without verbal and written consent for a doubled taxation. Any merchant found to be evading said law by use of disguises, different banners, and/or bribery, will be subjected to the full extent of Final Empire law.' 'My Lord...' The skaa began. 'Save it for later; give those notes to the inner council, tell them it is not up for dispute. Then go down to the cellar, and get me some of Lord Urbain's wine.' Who: Mennet Farrsolin, acting as House Lord. What: Raising heavy taxes on merchants on the Luthadel Canal. Denying Erikell soldiers access to the Eastern Dominance via the canals. When: Second action for the turn. Why: For the pursuit of wealth, and to keep the skaa around Seran under his own control.

Good point; I'm voting for myself at the moment, as my suspicions on Meta aren't that solid. If I get enough lynch votes, I'm switching. EDIT: If I vote for myself, I will get lynched to death (most likely, as from my count, I have two other votes against me).
