  1. Yes the interludes are to show different parts of the world without needing new pov characters but every single interlude shows very important stuff to people like us hehe I've always been a fan of purelake fish being magic!
  2. If you are arguing that shallan has no information related to her you have not really read this thread or you are just plain ignoring things it was shallans hand the brushed the goblet and shallan who in shadesmar held the sphere of its soul and asked I to change (kinda!) the spren only seemed to grant access, that's access depended on either how true a statement it was or how well she knew herself. I fail to see how moving very fast is a bone strength boost, especially when talking about an honourable man in shardplate. The harder your bones are doesn't change how fast you can run (except in extreme weakness where it would slow you down from them breaking) yes you would be able to take more pressure but I don't think dalinars bones are in danger of snapping every time he runs so he has to run slower unless they get strengthened... That being said I have no problems with dalinar being 9 lol I have not thought that much about it as the only things we see are him usuing plate better. edit: Yes he breathes it in but it is his actions which determine which order he is In, which in turn determines how he uses stormlight (ie by breathing it in and using the gravity/pressure surges)
  3. There were humans before the shards picked up their shards allomancy/feruchemy is one of the only genetic ones we see afaik, but that is more likely to be sdna instead of normal dna IMO but that doesn't really change anything for this. Preservation and ruin created life based on humans they had seen before (humans like they used to be!) however, we know preservation actually added a little more of himself to people when creating them, this is how they originally got their connection, to the magic. Since then a number of things could have happened to dilute (thru loads of babies) and add to it, we only know the mos recent ones. One of the more recent ones were the 10 beads of lerasium that were consumed by tlr and co. this went and made all of their predecessors much more of preservation then normal people, and it's those people and children who became mistborn and then it diluted into mistings. The next one is when sazed turns spook into the lord mistborn. You can see in alloy of law that all the people more likely to have allomancy are those with the closest relation to spook. Yes I agree it is genetic (whether physically or spiritually) but it is not radiation, it is set moments in time when humanity, or a small part of it, is invested with the magic not just ambient magic in the area from a shard. Then over time it gets more and more diluted down until more is invested again, in whatever way. Least that's how I see it!
  4. could the Sdna just come from the shards when they create humans on their chosen world though? if they create everybody there, everybody there has it. If it was radiation would that not mean that levels of power would keep rising instead of falling as it is diluted, as the shards are still there if it was enough radiation to start the magic system it stands to reason that it is enough to keep increasing every1s connection over thousands of years. but we dont see any evidence of people gaining allomancy arbitrarily, it is kept within the bloodlines, which means it was invested at one specific point, not just through random radiation. Edit: this response is focused on scadrial and the interactions there btw
  5. any1 reckon battar could be a shard? altho i guess it is kinda a symmetrical name so may be more likely is herald, but if she is using gods as curses means battar could be god!
  6. if they have galladon and demoux then they are prob trying to do something good in the cosmere at least! xD adds credence to the ars arcanum being seventeenth shard too imo
  7. well szeth doesnt use one because it interferes with his lashings some how (i think possibly it doesnt count as him touching something or it stops him from putting lashes on himself), he said nothing about draining it dry and he knows alot more about inhaling stormlight then any1 else weve seen.
  8. ^ what happyman said pretty much for me with only 3 shards existing on roshar...well either brandon is being tricksey like disciple said or ive always wondered if odium didnt actually visit roshar yet and has been creating and sending the desolations/voidbringers to weaken the shards there before moving in risking himself. odium may just be on some massive personal quest to destroy anybody who may stand up to him or just anybody with power and roshar is next in line! with really not that long a time passing from a shardic perspective.
  9. Well he joined the seventeenth shard it seems and they can clearly world hop and be immortal so there could be any number of ways we don't know of that they may have used to help him! That or sazed just didn't wanna see him die lol
  10. Ah indeed, whilst theorizing on Brandons work tangents are far too common xD One note tho, and ye i know i also have little evidence, but szeth himself calls them lashes and he knows things about the desolations and ancient times that even jasnah does not seem to. Brandon makes a very big point about doing things from in world characters perspectives, which means he learned the terms and things from somewhere. If i was to say anything more about it now i think i would purely be repeating myself and ive also felt we have somewhat monopolised this thread :/ lets agree to disagree for now! xD
  11. I wouldn't say more breath increases the effectiveness of commands, infact the more effective you are with commands the less breaths you require to awaken anything. So it is more like the opposite, the bette you are at commands the less breath you need. However having a lot of breaths does have other advantages anyway!
  12. Errr they wouldn't be? They would be writing it in the air inside the ship? If ur just gonna stroll out into the vacuum why even bother with a ship in the first place :/ hell they have aons that can teleport them they could prob work out a way to just teleport their city to another planet and skip the space part! Lol (that may make a new reod or shaod tho, whichever is the bad one)
  13. Problem with using the dor is its all good making an aon rao on sel were shadesmar is permeated with it, but it's not on other worlds so it's even more unlikely to be in space? As there isn't even anything physically! And even shards seem to stick around planets. Isn't there a chance u just can't get enough of it to power ur ship and soon ur too far out and ur just stranded? Unless ofc in all that time on sel the elantrians(or the fyodel leader guy) go an figure out how to remake the shard or summit and raoden picks them up and then, well I have no idea what effects remaking the shards would have if it were even possible, couldnchange everything could change barely anything! The reason I say this is Brandon's comments on how you wouldn't want to go I shadesmar on sel and the wy raoden feels when the dor is trying to force its way through him and how little power he has so far away from elantris which is a huuuge aon relatively close and on the same planet!
  14. Ah sorry I wa talking about the shardplates, shoulda clarified, altho the topaz/heliodor were put together with intricate metalwork which could just be used to hold it togeter but if it was purely for stormlight she could just used gems in the normal way, you know, just a gem, personally I suspect they were entwined around each other in a specific way for a specific reason (healing people) but don't really have any evidence. One note about shardplate always/not having gems inside, they can be regrown with stormlight from a single tiny piece, one could assume that if they didn't originally need gems they would not have the firttings for them when regrown. We don't see it happening but when people are thinking about Regrowing it it is never mentioned they will need to also find a skilled craftsman to put some gem slots in right, that would seriously add to the hassle and limitations and would probably be mentioned with it, instead of just ye I got a piece of plate I can just feed it stormlight and it can be used again! Surely people that do work on shardplate would be few and far between xD
  15. Er their culture is presumably based off what they did when their was 10 nations each with a different task, in a similar way to alethkar and it being all about war. What do you think of the stone shamans connection to cultivation and their apparent confidence and desire to retrieve the shardblade should szeth die, also they still remember more specific things about at least windrunning then anywhere else we have seen, does this not sound more like things that would come from a past connection to honour instead of a sheltered life under cultivation? Considering that it is one of the only places that there is dirt it would make sense that in the time of the heralds and kr and all that they would be the focus on producing food and animals and stuff instead of elsewhere which has the highstorms to contend with. And oh look just like the alethi have stuck with it an now have loads of armies and trained men, the reclusive shin have just gone along perfecting what their focus was. I do not believe there is enough evidence to just go and say well cultivation is prob in shin, cos we really don't have enough to say at all where she is and it would be foolish to rule out the misty mountains as one of the few places honour could have been based, considering there is people over most of roshar and urithiru hasn't been found! Mountains are one place that could take an awful long time to search and they haven't been swept, not saying honour was there but it's just as likely as cultivation sitting in shin
  16. I dont usually but i wasn't sure how to deal with the hate QQ it threw me off! (I don't think I do usually, altho I do often miss caps and punctuation!)
  17. Sure but considering its done on the molecular structure, ye it's not a metal but it's structure will be different in a similar way that lerasium and atium are probably very different molecularly compared to normal metals, Also if someone from scadrial was given a load of breaths (possibly possible!) would thy then hav a connection to endowment allowing them to use their breaths? And possibly burn the flowers if they could t before due to lack of connection (and not flat out no it's a plant reasons)
  18. Errr they probably are just fancy fabrials I mean they hav fabrials that can block a shardblade! Only other thing in the known world that can do that is shardplate xD it's just a fabrial made by god right! Gods have head starts when it comes to knowledge of what's can be done with their powers... Compared to normal people xD
  19. I think it was more gavilars death that changed him and set him on the path to honour
  20. It's not about whether it is necessary tho it makes things grow better, so I stick with y point, why would everywhere on roshar get benefits from cultivation (ye that's an assumption but more likely then it being honour or hate right) except for the one place that she lives.... There is a quote somewhere about scientists finding out something farmers have known for generations or something that plants grow better with stormwater that's basically all I'm basing this on also if you look at shin it's just normal grass, what makes you think oh a shard called cultivation must be here becaus it's the only place with normal plants, everywhere else they survive in ridiculous terrain and are far more active, infact they are damnation speedy.
  21. Jasnahs turning smoke to stone was pretty quick tho, and they were both pure elements or whatever
