Since we know so little about Glys, perhaps there's something to that. Maybe Brandon hasn't wanted us to know about him or Renarin's path to being a Radiant so far, because the Truthwatchers never disappeared, so Glys is fully functional and has been teaching Renarin about the Radiants from the perspective of a Spren whose Knight didn't kill him in the Recreance? jW

Yup! It's pretty awesome, though the beard shouldn't really be there. EDIT: The Shardplate and Shardblade, on the other hand, are ridiculously (and accurately) imposing. No indication of gaps either, which other artworks sometimes show. jW

IIRC, Brandon has RAFO'd just about anything related to the origin of the Heralds, though there's a few WoBs about them, just ones that don't tell us much related to that. I can see some pattern trying to connect in my head too, and it's just not snapping together. The connection to the Hoed I hadn't placed, but you're right that there is a distinct similarity, with them being "stuck" in a transformation because of a broken magic (not sure if that applies to Taln or not). jW

Thanks, both of you, I stand corrected and educated. I hadn't fully understood that until now, but the bubble essentially being an invisible, but physical, barrier of sorts, which doesn't completely stop anything but does deflect it (not at a truly random angle, probably, but one which can't be predicted since the bubble can't be seen), makes a lot more sense. jW

Only the bullets, I think. Their trajectory changing seems to be a function of simply abruptly traveling at a different speed, rather than part of it moving at one speed and part at another speed. I'm pretty sure there's been WoB's on that. jW

Yep, we know how to access an unlocked metalmind, and that all makes sense, but the unkeyed nicrosil metalminds are still a big mystery. I'd like to know in particular if people from other worlds would be able to use them, or only Scadrians (because of their P+R Innate Investiture). jW

@hwiles, I liked the theory mentioned before that they simply somehow divide their current spren, which is quoted in-world as a possibility by Hesina (Kal's mother), though she's not exactly portrayed as an expert. If you can split an object in half and each one ends up with a spren, though, that's a perfect analogy for how a Listener child would get a (very small) spren. They're not creating anything, just reorganizing it. jW

The medallion that Wax was using had the ability to tap Warmth (Feruchemical Brass), stored in it by a Firesoul while they were storing their Identity as well (probably using the ability granted in the second Nicrosil ring or stored in the same one, since we don't know exactly how that works), making anyone who held it able to tap Warmth, even if they had no Feruchemical abilities at all. It didn't contain the ability to tap Feruchemical Gold, however, so he couldn't have used the unkeyed gold metalmind. Basically, "Investiture" is sorta the wrong term for what Nicrosil stores, since it's too vague and doesn't accurately describe it (Khriss' mistake, not Brandons, and probably intentionally for now). Nicrosil appears to store the ability to use Investiture in a specific way, such as a specific Allomantic or Feruchemic power. So Firesouls can store their ability to use Brass, Coinshots can store their ability to burn steel, etc. If a Mistborn and/or a Full Feruchemist does it, it appears to grant access to all their powers, basically storing their ability as a Mistborn, rather than separating out individual abilities. I don't think we know if a Mistborn could choose to store only the ability to burn Gold, for instance, since other Feruchemical metals can sometimes hold specific things (think Feruchemical Tin and storing vision, hearing, etc separately). Yata just beat me to the punch a bit, but hopefully one of our answers straightens things out for you. jW

Ouch, yes, unless that was somehow a false conclusion, that does poke a pretty big hole (pun intended) in my theory. I wonder if a new Identity could have been somehow permanently stapled in with Hemalurgy or something similar? I do find it odd that the spike she had when she died was the unknown metal, but I don't think they ever found additional spikes of that metal, which presumably all of hers would need to have been for Harmony not to be able to track her. Do we know if the Hemalurgic creations she made used the same metal for the spikes? jW
-
I'm 99% positive I've seen the WoB, though I'm apparently terrible at searching for WoBs, so I can't find it now. Maybe someone better at tracking those will know where it is. jW

Just had a brainwave I wanted to get out. I don't think Paalm was insane after all, nor that she was acting out because of what Harmony made her do. I think her "Trellium" spike as we've called it was a Hemalurgic spike containing Identity, and she literally became someone else (possibly against her will). Someone imbued it with perhaps a completely manufactured identity and made her a Manchurian Candidate of sorts. I could see Breath being used to make that, in fact, since it carries a Cognitive intent with it. Any problems, addendums, or rebuttals? jW

Started reading the Derrick Storm novels "written by" Richard Castle. Clever tie in with the series. They're not bad so far. jW

@jtburrup, the hot springs are a Shardpool (we simply don't know if they're Honor or Cultivation's), which I think has been confirmed by WoB, though I'm not certain. The one from the SoS broadsheet isn't a Shardpool or a worldhopper; Brandon has confirmed that was a Southern Scadrian instead, but described similarly to a Voidbringer to mess with us, basically. jW

Dropped off one car at the mechanic to address the engine stalling, and the other car's window rolled down on the way there...and won't roll back up. Couldn't leave them both, so we have a trash bag taped over the back window of that car while we wait to hear about the other car. We can't afford to fix either, and fortunately the one in the shop is my brother's and he's going to pay for the repair, but I don't know for sure what we'll do about the window on the other one (or the broken side view mirror that's taped in place). jW -
@WildSpeculation, put square brackets [ ] on either side of the /spoiler tags, and then remove the / from the first one, to make them work. jW

Allomantic or Feruchemical tin would almost be best for a sniper. Feruchemical perhaps more so, or a compounder best of all, since with Feruchemy you can just store and then enhance your sense of sight, and perhaps touch (to feel the wind at your own location). Simultaneously storing hearing might help to reduce distractions, and I'm sure other things would help. Off topic, just something I thought of when I read the talk of snipers. jW

You should add that to the list of questions for Brandon (have we seen, or are there any Sprenblades off Roshar?). jW

I don't get the impression that the Bondsmiths were uniquely powerful, though depending on how they work, they may exert some control over the bonds of the other Radiants. I also don't expect Ishar was more powerful than the other Radiants; Jezrien seems to have been the one in charge, and Nalan or Taln was probably one of the most physically powerful, though we can't be sure. Ishar was the "organized" one it would seem, or perhaps more interested in unity, as would befit the Herald of the Bondsmiths. Of course, any Herald should be a match for any Radiants, and probably for quite a few at once. jW

With both rockets and guns, the force applied is momentary (just repeated very very often in the case of the rocket). The Steelpush, on the other hand, is a constant force being applied, even though the Allomancer and the coin aren't in physical contact. The push-up metaphor used earlier is very apt, or I've seen it described like a piston. That completely changes the dynamic and the way the force is translated to movement compared to a gun or rocket. jW

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Was just invited to the wedding of a girl that was one of "my students" (I'm not a teacher, but I volunteered in children's and youth ministry at our church for years, so this girl and several others were under my care off and on from kindergarten to high school graduation). She's the first of any of those kids to invite me to a wedding, even though she's not the first to get married (not too many have been married, though, so it's not like I've felt snubbed). Very exciting. jW -
Bear in mind we've seen quite a bit of Shadesmar already, so having the Realms discussed and seen isn't necessarily Cosmere content; it's merely Roshar's Realms. I think he could include quite a bit of that if he decides, without involving the rest of the Cosmere at all. jW

Trell actually might not be a shard we know!

Greed or Desire seems like a better match to Endowment (though we know not all Shards have perfect opposites). Endowment is about giving; Greed and Desire are about taking. jW -
I feel compelled to point out that the gun very likely contained Shades, which being once people, would have had their Investiture drained by the Leecher, rather than the gun itself. Still, a fine line and one that isn't completely unique. jW

Here's the big problem with that: Lightsong has memories of his life before Returning (just not always available to him, but he ends up remembering some of it). jW

My wife does some childcare jobs for churches, but we have two kids, so she can't just go get a full time job. I have no idea when I'm going to be able to go back to work (this is year 3 of constant pain, and while I worked through it for that time, that's only because we couldn't get enough of a diagnosis to officially get me out of work, but I was taking intermittent leave, so I wasn't working anywhere close to full time). EDIT: we have family and other resources, so we're not worried too much about continuing to pay for essentials, but it still really sucks. Plus, before this happened I was really happy that I'd managed to find a way I could continue to get the latest iPhones every time they were released; now of course that's not an option, and I'm bummed I can't get the iPhone 7. Minor overall, but it's making me sad today. jW
