  1. Since this will probably keep coming up, I think it's worth disclosing my role - I have invisibility. Arranae, the problem with Adavantos not being a matter disruptor is that by claiming it, he'd be telling whoever the actual matter disruptor is that he's lying about his role.
  2. An interesting argument. The downside, of course, to this, is that it has polarised discussion today - with it being centred largely around my alignment, and most players haven't contributed at all. Given it is a quick fix, and it's entirely possible that I shall die tonight, I'd exhort everyone to try to make an appearance at least once a day - with the relatively low number of players we have, activity is all the more important.
  3. I disagree with this argument wholeheartedly. Your argument that you 'needed to use your active ability whilst [you] still have the chance' being the area I have the most trouble with. Regardless of the likelihood of your death, you are still working from little evidence - and you being likely to die makes you no more likely to be right than any other player with the matter disruptor ability. You seem to be putting the private benefit - of getting to use your ability, above the social cost of using said ability on not terribly much evidence. I am in no way opposed to the use of kill abilities by players, but do not think the first cycle is the appropriate time to use them. Regarding Kipper's statement about Anamaximder's playstyle being consistent with AG2, I would like to highlight again that I was unable to follow the early stages of the AG, and have a hazy at best recollection of that I was involved in. My evidence for Anamaximder's playstyle comes from an analysis of it I did in an earlier game - although the specific game slips my mind. I would also ask that you consider whether I would choose a game in which I am evil to begin such a drastic change from my playstyle of the last games I've played, and carry out said change in a high profile manner by placing such an early vote. Adavantos, I find what you say to be incredibly inconsistent. Within your post, you acknowledge that you play in a similar manner with regard to playstyle change, accuse me of being a reckoner, but cover yourself with a justification '(or potentially neither)', before claiming me to be a reckoner once more, and then decide that despite me being your biggest suspicion, and one who has now admitted to having used up my protection, you say you won't kill me? Admittedly, you could explain the last bit as an attempt to draw protection away from me - so I will once again reiterate my desire to be protected this cycle.
  4. I must admit to being more than a little surprised about your tunnelling, Adavantos. As far as I'm aware, you're suspicious of me for two reasons - my early vote on Anamaximder, and getting involved from the start. Both of these I've explained - particularly my playstyle change - which I both deliberately confuse whenever Kipper is playing, as I ran into an unfortunate problem a couple of months ago where he was able to peg my alignment early, but have primarily changed it, as I explained, because I missed the vast majority of the AG due to being seriously unwell, and actually want to start playing again. You will note that despite being the first vote on Anamaximder, I was not responsible for the bandwagon, and have a policy of note removing votes straight away from poke vote-esque targets, to actually put some pressure on them. If I am going to be targetted consistently by Ada, I too would appreciate protection now - not least because I have a fairly useful role this game.
  5. Adavantos, I see what you mean - there is a contrast. However, 1) This is a quick-fix, and thus there is less time to actually do so, and 2) I have been rather unwell recently, and would like to get back to actually playing these games rather than letting yet more time pass. Regardless, I was hoping to encourage Anamaximder to continue the activity indicated by such an early vote, and forcing him to face a vote helps do so.
  6. Given who has come out of the woodwork to defend Hael, I'm of the belief that not only will we learn a lot from the verification of his scans, but that we will also gain information about the players defending him. Hence, Mailliw, Hael.
  7. I may have missed something from the last couple of games, but the last time I looked properly at him, he had a tendency to post about not getting involved until we have more information before going inactive - the change in my view this game is his voting without hesitation. Should he be prepared to be more involved this game, though, it can only be a good thing.
  8. I was, Maill; and wouldn't be averse to repeating it should there not be a viable alternative - but given your staunch opposition to him, a lynch of you is likely to be indicative to some extent of his alignment anyway - and would reassure my intuition anyway. Even if we do ultimately decide to kill Hael, we shouldn't do so until late in the cycle - doing so loses us the lynch discussion for 24 hours.
  9. Hael. Thank you Hael. This I need to think about, and would caution everyone that it is possible for the seeker to be evil, but certainly his lynch would require greater certainty on my behalf. Mailliw, for now, and subject to change once I've had a night's sleep.
  10. I'd agree with Lopen - although I would hope that it not being in the run up to Christmas or over thanksgiving would mean that we should be far less likely to see inactivity of that scale. Either way, I highly doubt anyone will have justifiable suspicions early in the game, and would ask that coinshotting, for want of a better term, doesn't occur without strong suspicion. Anamaximder, this marks a significant change from your usual play style - why the difference?
  11. Hael. I'm inclined to add some pressure to this. My point much, much earlier in the game stands - you have carved yourself a fantastic niche in which you can by useful without exposing yourself at all.
  12. I apologise for my return to inactivity - my illness, despite letting up, returned, and has kept me from being able to focus at all on this. I would, however, like to question a few things. Firstly, Mailliw is still alive. This tells us one of a few things - that a player Mailliw knows it has previously been on a team with has taken pity on him, and decided to let him live despite being an experienced or dangerous player, or that he is an eliminator. (If anyone could post a list of previous scan results, I'd greatly appreciate it)! I hope we've also considered the possibility that seekers can be evil? When I was last able to play properly, there was a comment that the two trust groups didn't overlap - did they at any point before PMs went down?
  13. Thank you, Chaos, for the opportunity to set out our thoughts on the reputation system. The ultimate issue at stake appears to be what rep is awarded for. The two opposing sides are that rep is either to acknowledge a contribution to the community, or because a post made you smile. My own view is that rep is far more valuable if it represents the contribution - rep is universal across the boards, and would mean far more if indicative about the contribution a user had made to the community - the status quo of rep meaning two different things dependent on its origin prevents it from telling anything about the member in question. Rewarding people for making you smile seems wrong - when people make jokes, they make them for the end result of having other people laugh - not to accrue upvotes - and arguing that you need to encourage people to make jokes through points seems insidious - as if people don't care about others enough for the intrinsic reward of livening other's days, and are instead just having a competition. In terms of solutions, the most sensible that I've heard (with my own amendments) are the following: 1) Preclude posts from the General Discussion/Non RP posts of the Reckoners RPG) from adding to the Rep *count* of users - but allow them to be upvoted - meaning that those who see upvotes as a reward for making people smile, residing primarily in these boards, can upvote for this purpose without it distorting the value of rep across the forum. 2) If this is not feasible, then I'd support simply removing upvotes from these areas - see my point above about upvotes not being necessary as a reward for making people smile. 3) Ultimately, an abolition of reputation would not be an issue in my mind - currently a user's reputation score is meaningless.
  14. I've recovered greatly from my virus now, and intend to read the thread through tomorrow morning before returning to normal activity - I would be very grateful if anyone feels like PMing me a rundown on what's happened, though!
  15. I did Mailliw. I have an extraordinarily nasty virus, which dramatically affects my ability to actually play. I'm checking the thread when I can, and responding to PMs on occasion, but hope to return to activity by the end of the week.
  16. I apologise for my inactivity. I have come down with a particularly nasty virus, and whilst I am doing my best to follow the thread and take notes, I can only promise full activity once I have recovered.
  17. It hasn't changed much since last night, Hellscythe. Ripple. Your posts seem very 'off' to me. Your first post was RP, written after roles were distributed, and seems to try to within the RP make you seem a villager - you claim to be attacked by 'absolute scoundrels'. The second post was an out of game response to Stink on the composition of ink. The third post excuses activity, and then claims a lack of understanding about Wyrm's message and Seonid's death. I suppose the only thing I can say about this is it seems to me to be a contribution without adding anything, and planting the idea of Ripple's perceived inexperience in out minds. The fourth post is one I do agree with - not voting on inactives on what was day 1. In the fifth post, Ripple argues against lynching Wyrm, even should he be an eliminator, for the PMs, and then goes on to say that she hasn't had luck with gut feelings, and will abstain from voting. It's the latter bit that seems perhaps a little odd to me - surely she could have chosen another player which she found a little suspicious, and she once again professes what comes across as inexperience. In the sixth post, she answers Wyrm by thanking him for clarifying that there was another tineye, and yet despite now being assured that PMs do not go with Wyrm's death, she still does not cast a vote - which strikes me as hoping to not have to bring any light on herself through a vote. The seventh post is a brief post simply arguing that inactivity lists and kills are a bad idea this early, and in the holidays, without contributing anything material to the game discussion. Whilst not comprehensive evidence of Ripple being an eliminator, there were enough 'red flags' in her posts that I felt it necessary to bring them to other's attention.
  18. Now I'm a little surprised I'm considered to be on the inactive list - I have posted several times this game, as well as being active in PMs. Primarily though, as I have explained to a couple of people in PMs, I'm avoiding getting too involved in the first few days of games - in the past I have had a tendency to tunnel in on players in the early game, to the detriment of my ability to analyse later - I find myself far more objective if I watch and think about the game for a couple of cycles before getting more involved, I think. Despite the high propensity for vote manipulation, I going to put my voice behind smokers not smoking this cycle - and I'd certainly advocate seeking on both Wyrm and Kas - Wyrm because I almost always suspect him (which contributes a little to my current reluctance to advocate for his lynch - I've been over zealous in the past), and Kas because having such a valuable player cleared will both be useful, and allow us to consider his thoughts in a far clearer light.
  19. Wyrm explains his actions well - and is an incredibly valuable role, so I will refrain from voting on him this cycle - until I'm a little more certain. That said, Wyrm has demonstrated in the past an ability to make himself integral to, and 'lead' the village as an eliminator - see QF9. I'm going to vote on Hael. You're posts are perfectly positioned to be helpful as a tool, but not contributing to the actual lynch discussion, and so not implicating yourself.
  20. I'm going to apologise in advance with regards to RP - as many of you may know, I am completely awful at it, and so probably won't be writing any! I'm going to second Wyrm's point on holding a lynch discussion today, even though it is a night cycle - it doubles the exposure that inactives and the eliminators receive, which can only be a good thing. Adavantos, you've been unusually quiet?
  21. Kynadeth, you make a fair point about my lack of contribution - to which I must turn to my being away with my family. I shall be contributing far more in the immediate future. Part of my delay has been considering this: I am Thaidakar. Hael was one of my commanders. I'm going to call out Twie as a potential voice in the diagrammists - and would be interested in other's thoughts on their alignment. Could Ghostblood runners please contact me, and of course, any protection that can be granted would be of great use!
