  1. Didn't hear about this but liked the books.
  2. I really like the Powder Mage series hope you guys enjoy it. Almost done with Lord of Chaos. Felt like a pain getting through the first 2/3 but last 1/3 is getting pretty interesting. I feel like just when I get a grasp of all the characters and plots another 10 are dropped in. My heads spinning a little trying to keep up with everyone. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need another break before moving on. Maybe some sci-fi.
  3. Man now I want to know how far apart they are from each other. As isolated as they seem from each other I am picturing a distance similar to a transatlantic crossing. Thats a long way to steel push across. Of course I may be way off and its like Australia to New Zealand. I just cant see them being connected and no one crossing regularly at this point.
  4. This is very helpful. I was discussing this with a group on Goodreads and this would help a lot. I still personally feel Mistborn trilogy is the best starting point and would continue to recommend that. I know this is debatable but it is in my opinion a lot more polished than Warbreaker (even though this is one of my favorites) and Elantris. Better to introduce someone to works closer to his current writing level. Then unless you are braindead you will be hooked and a little more forgiving for the less polished books.
  5. I always pictured it as Australia as well. Speaking of that how exactly did Marsh travel there? I guess it makes more sense it is more like North/South America with some kind of land connection. That seems weird to me though since you would think at least the southern people would traverse this at some point.
  6. I've got to say I wasn't all too excited about the White Sands graphic novel until these previews but now I am ecstatic. It is fun to see the book come to life. Honestly I don't know why the book was not published it may not be on par with SA but I think it is just as good as Warbreaker and Elantris. Of course this could just be my fanboy blinders talking. Regardless I like it and think its cool for a change. Excited about everything else. Particularly I am interested in the Elantris books mainly because of all his work that is my least favorite and I'm looking forward to seeing what he will do with this world now that his skill has developed so much more. The starcharts was something I did not think we would see for a looongg time but then again I think Brandon gets a kick out of the theory machine here and that is the perfect fuel for the machine. Part of me has been hoping Brandon would just decide to accidentally write Nightblood between some bigger projects but guess that is not going to happen. Although I have absolutely no right at all to be upset about it considering the "2 for" we already have been blessed with I am freaking out a little about the 2 year wait between BoM and TLM. Especially considering he is using that time to work on the much anticipated SA3. I just have the feeling BoM is going to end in a crazy cliffhanger thats going to grate on me for two years. Of course that is nothing of a wait in comparison to lesser authors but Brandon has spoiled us. That and man I am digging the Era 2 Mistborn books. It's kind of a teaser for the greatness to come for Mistborn. Really shouldn't complain about anything. Brandon is amazing and has so much in the pipeline to look forward to.
  7. I agree in the holes in VenDell's story specifically about the missing spike making ReLuur so insane he cannot remember where he found the bands when we saw Bleeder perfectly capable of communicating and scheming, I mean yeah she was insane but not sitting in a corner babbling to herself insane. That in combination with the extremely suspicious missing picture of the bands leads me to believe ReLuur did not in fact find them. What that means as far as VenDell's motives I am not sure. Even the fact they need Wax and Marasi to recover the missing spike seems a little suspicious to me. Wouldn't this be just as easy for a couple shape shifting Kandra to do? Makes me think they want Wax there for a specific reason.
  8. Still trying to process the chapter but agree VenDell and I think we have to throw MeLaan in there too as they seem to be partners in crime are being rather manipulative. Of course lets be honest they are agents of Harmony and we saw how manipulative he can be. Another Cosmere reference this time from MeLann and it seemed to refference the Cosmere as we see it unlike the first. So Harmony is apparently keeping the Kandra Cosmere savvy as well. This all seems to point to the Set's goal of creating a full Mistborn and/or full Feruchemist. Interesting stuff. Cant wait to see the giant cliffhanger at the end of BoM.
  9. I'm pretty much bracing myself for a huge cliffhanger next month. I think I saw something that Peter said the ending of BoM will blow your mind. I'm torn because 2 years seems like forever to wait for TLM but then again who doesn't want SA3.
  10. Liked the mention of the Marewill petals. Interesting the ceremony involves that and the ash girls. I love the Era 1 tidbits. The Vin perception was a little weird though but I guess a few centuries of elaboration will do that. Got to admit I love every scene with Wayne in it but the moving on thing made me cringe a little. I like the theory here though that Wayne is really the one having a hard time moving on and didn't necessarily ruin the wedding just for Marasi. I am really liking the Era 2 cast more and more though even with all the frustrating romance. Man I think Brandon is having some fun with us on these chapters. I guess I don't really notice his cliff hangers when reading a full book because I go right on to the next chapter. Or he is just feeling extra torturous this holiday season.
  11. ^ Took me a while to figure that out to. I was like what the heck is an ash girl. I have a love/hate feeling about these teaser chapters. Especially one that ends like that. What the heck is Sazed busy with!
  12. I agree the firs book was good and it kinda gradually went downhill from there and then the wait just killed it for me. But I have to say I like the show and what HBO is doing. I think it will eventually (probably already has) overshadow the books.
  13. I actually liked The Magicians series but yeah nothing in the Sanderson caliber. I have this problem too after finishing Shadows of Self I was like ok now what. I am currently reading WoT and it is pretty good but I find I need a little break between the books. I usually switch to Sci-Fi just re-read The Martian and Ready Player One. One huge advantage though is you can expect something from Sanderson at least every 6 months or so. Check out the Mistborn books! Also one I haven't seen mentioned yet I liked a lot was the Powder Mage books by Brian McClellan who just happened to be a former student of Brandon.
  14. During my WoT break and since I finished my 52 book Goodreads challenge for the year I decided to re-read The Martian and Ready Player One. Man both of those are extremely fun reads this is only my first re-read for both and I think I liked them better the second go round. About to start Lord of Chaos.
  15. So I have a friend and he and I read the Kingkiller books together which we both liked (well the first one at least). I tied getting him to read WoK and he said the book was to long... Seriously I don't know the exact page counts but they are both pretty close. Sanderson is one of only a few authors that I know will never disappoint me (and I don't have to wait 5+ years between books). In fact I was sure I would hate Reckoners and now I am chomping at the bit for Calamity. He doesn't seem to be able to put out a bad book which I appreciate a lot more as I am reading the WoT series for the first time currently. Drives me crazy people that do not see the light.
  16. I'd second Warbreaker being that is actually kind of a prequel to SA (I wish I had read it before WoR). I would also say besides SA it has the most on scene with Hoid. Plus it is one of my favorite Cosmere books.
  17. I'm kinda with you on having a hard time getting through them with the FoH and the one before but I also find the characters a lot more interesting now (Really just Rand gaining confidence). I think it is a hard series to read straight through though. After a while I feel like I do not need to know what every tree or dress looks like.. I decided to take a break and read a couple quick books before Lord of Chaos.
  18. I think everyone in AoL era is just getting the name Trell confused with Kel
  19. Cant speak on on the other but I really liked the Powder Mage books by Brandon's former student Brian McClellan. Just finished The Fires of Heaven. I feel like I keep saying this but I think it is my favorite so far. Think I will take a break from WoT for a bit. Really liking WoT but feel like my brain needs a rest from "over-description". I think I will read a couple shorter non fantasy books. Just started Crimson Shore by Preston and Child then I think I am going to read Angles of Attack the third Frontlines book.
  20. Well that is for sure pretty damaging to this theory which I actually liked a lot.
  21. Me too. Like if you are storing it does simply sitting still with minimal motion work or do you have to intentionally slow your movement. I picture someone doing everything in slow motion like they were in zero gravity.. It is weird..
  22. From looking at Shallan's sketches of shardplate that is a pretty good description. I also assumed the whole thing glowed. The thing I have always wondered is how the old KR helms seemed to disappear and reappear so quick I guess they summoned it like blades are summoned now when the plate was "live"?
  23. This thread needs a HUG
  24. I think we are guessing Dalinar is around 19 or 20 in this scene Earth years or Rosharan years no matter how long they are there is not a huge jump in maturity between a 20 year old and 23 year old (under normal circumstances I will say having a kid can speed this up) and their age difference is still relative to each others even with a longer year. I think it is safe to compare them as basically the same age as far as maturity level goes.
  25. I'm reading The Fires of Heaven too and so far I think it's my favorite but honestly I've liked them all so far. I'm seeing how RJ influenced Rothfuss and Sanderson the more I get in to the series (although I think the grasshopper has surpassed the master in at least Brandon's case). Little upset that from what I've heard in heading on to the low of the series after this one.
