  1. Also going to re-read Fireflight before Calamity. Just finished a Steelheart re-read. But first just started The Three-Body Problem which I've heard good stuff about.
  2. Yes I think you are the only one I guess I look at it that this didn't take anything away from my original enjoyment of the trilogy simply added to it. In all of Brandon's books there is stuff going on behind the scenes (not just with the Cosmere) that takes a while to fully be revealed. I am sure there will be things not revealed until SA 10 that happened behind the scenes in WoK. Thats a 20+ year spread at best so I do not see how this is any different. That said I don't think this novella is for everyone. Certainly not for anyone that does not have an interest in the Cosmere back story. I read and re-read all the books and pick up little things every re-read so it does not bother me in the slightest. If you're a casual fan though I could see skipping this entirely.
  3. After a re-read of this part I think you are right. I can't find it but I seem to recal there was a WoB about distances between planets being shorter in the CR. Now the question is what planet it actually was. I'm guessing Thredony as they seemed be guarding against them but I do not think we have conclusive proof at this time.
  4. So an Elantrian, Cognitive Shadow and a Vessel walk in to a bar.... Just amazing. I agree with what someone else early in the thread said this was pretty much fan service but I don't care I freaking loved it. I thought we got a pretty good glimpse in to the Cognitive realm in BoM but then Brandon gives a novela entirely set in the CR. Kelsier still love him. Hoid seemed kinda mean. Khriss! So 16 people destroyed a God and took pieces of him. Cool story bro. Wait why are there Elantrian's here? Oh and they are in some kind of conflict with Threnody? Better stock up on some silver. Man Vinn and Elend dying again hit me right in the feels. Well this kinda explains the 100 year Spook reign but is he actually gone? Was great seeing the behind the scenes of what got me hooked on Brandon in the first place. Makes me super excited about all the Cosmere crossover possibilities. So many groups and motivations. Oh and crazy completely false theory time. We will soon find out Adonalsium=Calamity. Sixteen epics will destroy it and create the Cosmere (Reckoners isn't Cosmere but could create it you know)
  5. I should explain. What was distracting is every tidbit that was revealed had my mind racing and was crazy hard to concentrate and just enjoy the story. I think a re-read will help.
  6. BoM was kind of an odd one for me. I mean I liked it but the knowledge bombs dropped were almost distracting to the story for me.
  7. I know I thought the same. Of course Mistborn has always been special to me because it's the first Sanderson books I read. What's going on in era 2 is just amazing though and man there will be a long wait for the final book. It will give us a lot to talk about though. The history novela is probably the most important book so far Cosmere wise. I'm actually surprised Brandon pulled back the curtain so much (BoM as well to maybe a slightly lesser degree.) On another topic I'm having a REALY hard time getting back into WoT. I'm about 25% through A Crown of Swords and feeling like I am forcing myself to complete it. I've stopped and started a few times now. I think I'm going to do a Reckoners re-read real quick before Calamity is released. Then maybe I'll jump back on to WoT. I also tried Brent Weeks The way of the Shadow about 30% through and not sure what I think about it at all. It's pretty dark.
  8. SoS and BoM actually made me want The Lost Metal even more than SA3 and I didn't think that was possible. Oh and I'm reading the Mistborn history novela right now which will blow your mind if your a Mistborn/Cosmere fan.
  9. This is funny to me because 6 month ago I would have called this crazy talk and now I completely agree. Btw I am about half way through the novela it is must read at this point after BoM.
  10. Can't wait to have enough time to read through everyone else's comments here but WOW! Brandon dropped some serious knowledge on us in this book. In a way I feel it was almost too much. I felt a little distracted reading as my mind started racing as soon as each tidbit was revealed. I will for sure need to re-read soon to just enjoy the story like I did with SoS. The Southerners were completely opposite from what I imagined but that's good considering I saw the Kelsier thing a mile away. Now the excruciating wait until the last book! This one has me completely stoked for the Mistborn series in general though which always held a special place for me being the first thing of Brandon's I read. Oh and wow Brandon hooked us up with the Secret History so we can see how all this happened. I just started it which is a must read now.
  11. I dunno I would have liked to hear Wayne's explanation and how trading is factored into these situations.
  12. I think the missing 3 clips was just further character development showing Steris planning/accurate nature. At least I didn't read anymore in to it than that but I guess it could be more. The 100 year reign thing jumped out at me too and wonder if there may be some historical inaccuracy in this like we have seen on other things. If this is true though it's interesting. Makes me then ask the question did he reign to death?
  13. The first book GOT is great then it kind of goes down hill after the second book in my opinion. It's funny I've been anticipating the next book so long I don't even care anymore. I'll just take whatever HBO does as cannon. Started a military sci fi series by Evan Currie called Odyssey One. It's pretty interesting if you like this genre. Kind of a different take on Firat Contact. Finished the first book and now on the second.
  14. I'm hoping Wayne becomes a world hopper I'll hate it if the next book is the last we see of him.
  15. Watched it again this weekend and I think I liked it even more. The first time I had so much anticipation and probably unrealistic expectations that it interfered with my enjoyment a little. I do still think they kinda took the easy route and did ANH 2.0. I'm not completely sold on all the new characters but Rey is a star.
  16. Slightly off topic but this is the first time I've read the preview chapters in real time I'm usually like a month behind. I'm really enjoying the discussion on each chapter. Now I have serious doubts I have the will power to do this but.. I bet it would be fun to only read a chapter a day and then have a day for discussing with a group. I just don't know if I could do it would be crazy hard to stop after one chapter a day. Edit: Maybe one chapter a day is too little but possible blocks of 3 chapters a day. I see groups on Goodreads do this I've just never thought to do it with one of Brandon's books I usuallyend up reading them in a day or two.
  17. Yeah heck of an ending huh.
  18. Wayne tells Wax about a book he is reading about bunnies in AOL near the end. The bunnies talk. I dunno maybe their version of Watership Down but explained here as the bunnies were Kandra
  19. I could read an entire book of Wayne walking the city making his trades.
  20. Wow just checked you are right he does the UK narrating. I checked Amazon.uk and its Rupert. Here in the states it's Nick. Never knew there would be different narrators across the pond.
  21. Huh that's weird I thought his name sounded familiar so I checked and the Audible version of Kingkiller is read by Nick Podehl. What version is read by Degas? I'd like to check it out.
  22. It's funny I see people here (and rightly so) say Brandon gets better with every book but so does Michael Kramer. I love his narration. I listen to a lot of Audio books and the narrator can make or break it. I think I can listen to Kramer read just about anything. Also Nick Podehl he's the guy that reads The Kingkiller Chronicle right? He's pretty good too.
  23. It took me until the last third to get in to it seemed really slow before that but the ending is pretty awesome.
  24. I started to read A Crown of Swords got through the prologue then decided I need a little more of a break. With extra time off for the holidays I've gone through a Military Sci-Fi series by Paul Hosinger called the Man of War series. It was pretty good if you like this genre. The ending was really open ended though. I think I'm going to read a lcouple more easy reads then jump back on WoT.
  25. I've been avoiding the interwebs and walking around the office with my fingers in my ears to avoid spoilers because today was the first opportunity I've had to see it. In short I liked it a lot. Now I will say I probably have my fanboy blinders on a bit. Someone earlier made the great point of how we will feel about the movie in few years. I'll also say I didn't go in to the theater thinking this was going to be as good as the original trilogy. That magic is probably not going to get replicaged. I did however hope this movie would be better than the prequels. Which I actually liked most of except one major issue. The horrible acting/characters which amazingly for the most part were cast by otherwise great actors /rant. Anyway this movie although not perfect did bring something back from the original trilogy great characters. I mean Rey was amazing. She lit up The screen. Poe can't wait to see more of him. BB-8 when he gives the thumbs up. Ren the up and coming villain. Even Finn which I think we will see a lot more developement from was good. The characters actually acted like people. My only major complaint was I felt like they played this a little too safe. At times it felt like an episode IV reboot. I mean for nostalgia reasons I liked a lot of the throw backs but I think they could have been a little more original with the overall plot. I mean seriously a bigger Death Star? Other than that just a couple smh moments. Until I read this thread didn't know they ripped off that war hammer thing from Halo but what the heck was that? Why did a random storm trooper have that? Why didn't a light saber cut right through it? Since when can you read someone's mind with the force? Influence sure but read their mind? What was the thought process on destroying the Republic planets? Talk about the most extreme anticlimactic destruction I think I've ever seen in a movie. We basically know nothing about it except I guess we are supposed to know they are the good guys and the bad guys destroyed it. Seemed like an excuse to show the audience what the new Death Star could do. Came across completely pointless. Speaking of pointless I also agree with others about Han's death. I knew it was coming but hoped something was going to happen there besides him dying. Some of the other things like how Rey can master Jedi mind control and be proficient with a light saber after zero training in a few minutes I'm going to hold off on passing judgment. I think there's more to the story that will be revealed. I'm also hoping there's a really good explanation why Luke just leaves. All in all I really liked it and am glad to see a return of good characters. I am crossing my fingers there will be a little more originality and that there are some reveals that make some of what we've seen make more sense.
