I really liked this book eagerly awaiting his next one. Finally got to Lies of Locke Lamora enjoying it so far.
-
I'm optimistic about Blood of Serpents because I like the way it started and has been interesting so far.
-
I finished Toungues of Serpents and Crucible of Gold. Reading Blood of Tyrants now. I have to say I see why it was recommended to me to stop at Victory of Eagles which I did previously. It just seems like one of those series that goes on a little too long. Mange this book will change my mind.

Finished up my Magicians re-read. Lost a little of the original luster second time around. This thread inspired me to finish up where I left off with the Temeraire series. I started Tounges of Serpents.
-
I finished Heir of Novron which concluded the Riyria Revelations. Really liked the series. Will probably read the prequels. Started The Magicians the TV show made me want to re-read the series. Forgot how depressing this series is.
-
Yeah I have actually enjoyed the show but keep thinking "thats not how it happened". I don't want to spoil anything but for instance the last episode what happened to Penny I know it was the same outcome in the books but I do not even remember how it happened in the books. It's things like that have me scratching my head. Of course this is the same for me as GoT.

I'm the same way with series I almost always have to finish once I start. Speaking of that almost done with the last riyria revelations book. Really enjoyed these books and looking forward to the conclusion. After that I think I'm going to re-read The Magicians books. The tv show has me so confused I can't remember exactly how everything went down in the books.

Official Star Wars Episode VII SPOILER Thread
StormingTexan replied to Seonid's topic in Entertainment Discussion
That's awesome. I have an 8 year old son. I made him watch all the previous movies (in order of release of course) before watching Force Awakens. It's fun seeing a new generation getting in to the movies. -
I really liked books 1-5 but after that had a hard time keeping interest. Finished Rise of Empire the second volume of Riyria revelations. I liked it. Maybe not as much as the first volume but still good. I started the third volume and so far really liking it. Great series. Trying to decide if I continue with the prequels or take a break.

I did a re-read of both books before Calamity and I didn't think it was all that necessary after reading Calamity.
-
Just finished Theft of Swords which includes the first two books of Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelations (I actually thought this was one book and was pleasantly surprised it contains two). I bought this on sale from Audible just hoping it would be worth the $6. I thought it was awesome. Great characters, story and interesting world. The pacing was perfect for my liking (a little ADD here). The magic is still a little bit of a mystery to me I just saw glimpses but I think that is the intention. I would highly recommend trying this series out especially if likable characters is as big of a deal to you as it is for me. Moving right in to Rise of Empire which contains the next two books.
-
Finished The Last Colony the third book in the Old Man's War series and not really compelled to continue. The first book was really good but next two meh. I read Lock In a book I grabbed on sale and really liked it. Just started Theft of Swords and really liking it so far.

Apocalypse Guard: New Series in the Reckoners Multiverse
StormingTexan replied to Argent's topic in The Reckoners
I was only slightly excited about this until I read the blog now I am stoked. Really looking forward to this and hoping it may resolve some of the things I didn't like about Calamity. -
Glad to hear this. I just bought the first book in the series on a whim since it was on sale for $5.95 on Audible. I've actually found a few new authors I really like when they do these sales.
-
Sounds like a good reason to read the Era 2 books then. They are awesome!

^ Oddly that goes double for me regarding Sci-Fi which you would think gets dated pretty quick with the technological advances over the last 20 years making some of the older Sci-Fi elements everyday items for us. Still I typically like older Sci-Fi more than current with a few exceptions.
-
Finished Calamity which was a little disappointing. Back on a Sci-Fi kick and started The Old Mans War series. Flew through the first book and on the second one now. Liking it so far. I really need to get back on WoT I just can't seem to find the motivation to do it for some reason. Thinking about rereading The Name of the Wind. Oh and Hunger Games I actually liked book 1&2 a lot even most of book 3 until the ending

[Calamity spoilers] Calamity reactions thread
StormingTexan replied to Voidus's topic in The Reckoners
Finally had time to read Calamity this weekend. It pains me to say this but... I didn't really like it. Sure there were parts I liked and I wouldn't say I hated it more like "meh". I felt like the Prof resolution should have taken place much sooner and there should have been a lot more build up before Calamity. Ending felt super rushed and to put it frankly completely unsatisfying. I mean it left me with more questions than answers and really felt like a set up for more books than a conclusion to a trilogy. The other thing I didn't like is the alternative universe deal. It was cool in Fireflight and I think it's an awesome epic power for Megan but felt it was too much of a can of worms in Calamity. As soon as others started traveling to alternative universes it seemed a little too much. Too easy to suddenly bring back David's father who's superman in another universe. I don't know.. This sounds weird to say about a book like this but it just felt too far fetched if that makes any sense at all. Still I loved Steelheart and Fireflight. This conclusion just didn't do it for me. -
The one I disliked the most even though it's one of my favorite Sanderson books was Warbreaker. It felt like book one of a trilogy. I know there is supposed to be a sequel but with as many years of separation there will be of felt like it took away from my overall enjoyment. Hero of Ages by far the best ending.

Ah man I loved Timeline! (movie was horrible)
-
^ Prey and Timeline also good.
-
I'm actually holding off on Calamity although my pre-order was already here. I planned on rereadding Firefight first but got sidetracked by The Three Body Problem who's is pretty good. Luckily I'm almost done with that.
-
I agree with everything maxal said but will add that book three did change these perceptions for me a little. It redeems some of the characters and the ending is actually pretty positive. Book one is seriously depressing and I can see A LOT of people not wanting to continue past that. Even book two and most of book three but the story also gets more interesting. I know I almost stopped after book one but a friend of mine kept telling me to continue and I am glad I did.
-
I'd say the books are good but "new literary classic" is a stretch. It's pretty dark though so not for all. Its basically an Adult Harry Potter mixed with an Adult version of the Narnia books. I am digging the show a lot. Although I'd say it's loosely following the books.

I agree just for the actual story I liked SoS more than BoM but that's like saying I like ice cream more than cake.
