[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
I need to go back and re-read this because it doesn’t really make sense. Ash would represent Lightweavers same as Shallan so really it’s two missing Willshapers and Dustbringer although I guess he could have included Malata even though she wasn’t at the battle right? To your point though without thier blades they do not really have any surges but you’d think they could at least offer advice. -
Ok fair enough although I disagree about Rock. Also Lopen He’s SA’s Wayne.
-
Oh man.. I can respect other people’s opinions except when someone says they didn’t like Rock’s chapter..

Man everyone is reminding me of great scenes. @emailanimal Jasnah is such a badass in that scene. I think she will be a good king (queen?). -

Yeah that was a powerful moment with Ash. I can see him being high on my list with a little more screen time. -

Yeah I realize that. I guess I see the spren searching out humans to bond not the other way around which is what seemed weird. -
[OB] Favourite OB moment / Character ?
StormingTexan replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
Favorite moment was an entire chapter. The Rock POV chapter was just beautiful. The brotherhood and reuniting with his family warmed my heart. Favorite character is a tough one for me. I think this book had the most character development out of the three. If I had to pick just one it would be Adolin which is totally shocking to me as he’s always kinda been a secondary character to me. He is a true hero and one without supernatural powers which makes it even more spectacular to me amongst his company. He’s always there when the you know what hits the fan. He yields when it’s appropriate as well. He was willing to give up Shallan because he thought it would make her and Kaladin more happy. All around a good person. Runner ups would be Dalinar I really liked his story and development even if a lot of it was pretty dark. Oh and Lift. I just love her and would adopt her if I could. The scene posted above with Dalinar when all looked to be lost was amazing. -

I was actually really surprised by this scene. On one hand thought it was cool and makes since in his quest to gather investiture. On the other it seems weird to me a spren would just decide it’s ok to hitch a ride with him. I guess this was kinda like Hoid welcoming the spren to the PR to follow suit with the other epilogues but just seemed a little weird to me. -

Finished the book last night and felt like I needed to sleep on it before posting my thoughts here. Parts 1-4 I absolutely loved. I think it’s some of Brandon’s best writing. This was the first time I really started having an emotional connection to most of the characters. The highlights were the Bridge 4 chapters which were completely unexpected. Rock’s POV was absolutely beautiful. I liked the Kholinar expedition although I felt like it was a little slow up until the ending which very rushed. The Shadesmar adventure was amazing I likes every bit of it. I’m actually glad we saw two deaths of significance. As sad as they were it added some reality of consequences I think were lacking in the first two books. Dalinar. I was actually a little worried other characters would overshadow him after the preview chapters. Not the case at all. His story is by far the most tragic. Part 5... I feel like I need to reread this. There seemed to be way too much going on. I guess this is a case of my expectations not being met but being exceeded and maybe a little too much. Going in to this book being the third I thought it would still be setting the stage for a showdown with Odium. Instead we got a full on battle with him and for whatever reason it seemed too soon. I was actually thinking Dalinar would end up being Odiums champion and would have to fight Szeth. It would have been tragic yet I feel like that would have been a viable path. Instead Dalinar Ascends.. I’m probably not expressing this well but the entire battle with Odium corrupting Amaram and his soldiers then Dalinar combining the three realms just felt way too soon. I think a re-read with out all the anticipation of how it will end will help a lot. I did however like several of the character arcs like Kaladin, Szeth and Adolin. I liked the book though. I liked it a lot probably more than the first two. We learned a lot more than I would have ever imagined. Only major thing that bothered me was the lack of any consequence for Adolin murdering Sadeas. I have to give maxal credit for predicting this as I thought it was impossible. I guess since Adolin confesses this to Dalinar at the very end it could come up again in the next book but just feels like by then so much tension would be lost. The one other thing that was a tiny bit of a let down was the interludes. Venli’s were pretty good but the rest just were not as impactful as the previous books. -
[OB] Azure's Identity (+Warbreaker spoilers)

Ah! I assumed the cloak was for awakening but yeah that’s a very good possibility. -
[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
StormingTexan replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far out there as it seems I like theory 3. Dalinar says a few times when he talks about Honor being dead and therefore not really God there is something “else”. I took that to mean Cultivation but now I’m leaning to another entity. Maybe the shadow of Adonalsium.- 69 replies

I agree with everything except Nightblood. If you haven’t read Warbreaker he would come across as a little misleading. I think some that haven’t read that could think he has something to do with the voidbringers/Odium. Of course I’ll say this. SA is obviously a critical part of the overall Cosmere storyline (it’s a huge chunk of it) so we are going to see a lot of Cosmere storyline regardless.
-
Yeah I guess. Even though with the arrogance of humanity I would think it would be scrutinized more. Unless deep down everyone senses it somehow like the SF suggested to Dalinar.

Wow (again again).. So good thing money is not Brandon’s primary motivator. He could have made 5 books out of this releasing them months apart and made a ton more money. As much as I love the crazy ending chapters of these parts it’s making it hard for me to remember all my thoughts I guess I should be taking notes... Dalinar- Poor Dalinar.. Was cool seeing that he was old drinking buddies with Jezrien. As a father myself some of the flashback scenes with his sons really took me in the feels. Everything is unraveling and he doesn’t even know his nephew is dead yet. Not feeling like this book is going to end well for him. Mr T- WHY!!! The worst part is I still like him even though he is trying to destroy Dalinar. Adolin- You confessed and she was ok with it. We see him get a little bit of the green eyed monster and realize he is the king now. Your shardblade is creepy in the CR!! Shallan- Saw some growth with her eventually and now she’s trying to make up new personas? I don’t think we have ever seen the real her.. Vivenna- I really like you and will miss you until we see you again. Kaladin- You can’t save them all! Szeth/Nightblood- YES!! These were fun chapters and I fell like Szeth is going to be the real hero in the end using his logical thinking. Nightblood you soul eatin fool! I love you! Random things.. Loved we got to see so much of Shadesmar and the Spren. All that was super interesting and kinda chill which I felt like I needed pacing wise. Oh and Syl is like a Lighteyes. So soulcasters (the people using fabriels) transform in to the spren trapped as they appear in Shadesmar. Neat. The old guy in the lighthouse.. He was about to curse to Dominion.. Oh and he looks like a Shin..Hmmm.. I’ve noticed women use their safehand when using Radiant abilities. I know Brandon said covering the safehand was related to some book and meant that women shouldn’t use shards but wondering if it also was a way to deter surgebinding. So that little tidbit about how humans invaded Roshar and how the Recreance happens.. WHAT!! Why are we already learning about this!!! So honestly I doubt this was a surprise to anyone here. I’ve seen multiple speculation post and commented several times that the humans were not the “good guys” after reading the pre-view chapters. Let’s face it just like the SF said humans appear pretty alien on Roshar. Still to see it confirmed another jaw dropping moment. Still a lot of questions though. The humans invaded before any shards arrived. How? Did Honnor/Cultivation see the humans when they arrived and say “I got you fam”. Lots to speculate on still. I will say I was a little disappointed so many people in world were like “Oh we came from another planet? Makes sense..” I can’t see that being easily accepted in our world. Most would dismiss it. Man I almost want to take a break before reading part 5. It’s the bitter sweet feeling knowing it will soon end. I feel like from what we’ve learned this should be book 5. This overall story is going to be so huge. Edit: Dang knew I was forgetting something. So the secret of powering up with Urithiru has something to do with the Urithiru caverns Nohadon mentioned. All that foreshadowing about him walking to Urithiru.

I agree not that I think it is a bad thing but I got a WoT vibe too. Also the Stormvision Network reminds me a little of Tel'aran'rhiod as well.
-
The parts in this book seem more contained. It’s almost like a collection of shorter books.
-
Actually I think Hoid wrote letters to all the shards and we are seeing some of the replies.
-
Wow....(again). So dang...This part was a really slow burn at least the Kholinar chapters but man those ending chapters though.. Brandon pulled no punches. Absolutely gut wrenching... Venli- Be careful what you wish for!!! This was pretty cool to see how the fused use the Listeners bodies. Dalinar- Oh man what a roller coaster.. It was amazing seeing him realize that the surges can be used for a lot more than fighting. I really liked that he sent for Renarin to heal. Blackthorn! So traumatic.. Still really want to know why he suddenly has his memories back. Kaladin- Man I feel so bad for what Brandon is doing to you! He finally seemed like he was chasing the depression away and then this.. On the bright side Veil digs you. Shallan- She was starting to get to crazy level 1000 with her multiple personas but Wit came to the rescue. These were some amazing scenes. The girl that stood up was beautiful (btw I guess the story was simple a metaphor for Shallan that as sharders do we read WAY too much into). Too bad you didn't head Sja-anat's warnings.. Btw she told the truth it seams...Hmmm... Adolin- Not much to say except it was nice to get a POV. Elhokar- OMG JUST WHEN I WAS STARTING TO LIKE YOU!! Man one word away.. You really should have listened to Jasnah btw.. Hope his son is ok and they don't turn him into Chucky or something. Azure- <--- I see what you did there Brandon. Ok I was like 50% sure this was Vivenna and 50% sure we were meeting a proto-Stoneward but Kaladin's comments on her blade made me start thinking no then we get our first colors reference and I was like dummy look at her name it says it right there!! So she has Nightblood 2.0 it appears... Mr. T- Thanks you for getting all smart and deciding not to kill Dalinar. Random thoughts.. OMG! The Bridge 4 salute is the "Friendly Finger" from Friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naOyG_1VZS4 These giant spren in Shadesmar are they the siblings? What is up with the third spren in Shadesmar? Is this Adolins blade? Loved the Urithiru audible clips! Lots of knowledge bombs there. Even more questions.. Confirmation plate at 4 oaths. LIFT ATE DALINARS LUNCH LOL Unmade CAN for sure bond with a human... Was Vivenna using awakening when she put her cape on her arm? I seem to remember Vasher doing something similar.. Whew.. I feel like I need to take a little break before starting part 4. I am emotionally drained.

He’s one of the letters in the epigraphs.

According to him he’s Passion.

@Toaster Retribution I felt like she handled Shallan very porely. It didn’t bother me so much with Kaladin I think because I felt like those two were going to be oil and water and got exactly what I thought. She’s a no BS kinda lady and she has a little beef with the rest of the world that’s just now catching up to her (even if she’s wrong about stuff). It will be interesting to see how she progresses.

Oh dang one thing I forgot the Airships! Be on the look out for Cid people.

First off Welcome! I completely agree with you that was an amazing chapter. Hoarneaters and Herdazians are both a mixed race of humans and parshendi. Edit here is the WoB https://wob.coppermind.net/events/87-white-sand-vol1-release-party/#e5782

Yeah re-read that part he says they were close then she retorts with my father wanted us close so I agree with your assessment.
