  1. I'm not sure if there's already a thread on this, but I just noticed some flaws on the covers of a few of the Era 2 Mistborn books.

    Alloy of Law:

    1. Wayne is holding a gun!

    2. Wax is wearing a tie, and he usually wears a cravat.

    Shadows of Self:

    Nothing much, just the tie.

Nothing wrong with Bands of Mourning, so far as I can tell.

The main issue is just with Wayne holding a gun in AOL.

  2. A good shot, but chapter 1 seems to disprove this theory. In it, even Joel is surprised that the lines he drew don't come to life: yes, he "knows" he's not a Rithmatist, but in that moment he was so drawn up into his own story that he forgot, and then felt foolish for forgetting afterwards. If the above theory was correct, then he should have been able to accidentally draw a Rithmatic line.

But in Chapter 1 Joel hadn't gone into the Chamber of Inception yet.

  3.

-People who think climate change is solely or even primarily caused by humans (see the global cooling scare of earlier years). Sorry, I just...do not like this at all. :P This is the most agressive and contrary i will be. :PAnd don't worry, I'm not a climate-change denier.

  4. I'll start us off with my list:

-When you sign up for a website and the awesome username you've spent an hour thinking of is taken (Glares pointedly at Mistrunner)

    -Gluttony

-People who deny climate change is real/ think that it has nothing to do with us

-People who blame their mistakes on other people (This is really difficult in sports)

-Arrogant people who claim they're good at everything, then make up poor excuses when they fail

-When people copy or take credit for stuff you've worked really hard on

    - The bossy person who thinks they're good at everything (but they actually know nothing) who tells you what to do (most of the time they're wrong)

    -Movie commentators!

-People who make a big deal out of nothing for attention

-Using "me" and "I" incorrectly (Him and me were...)

    -Wasters!

-The "bumper" in team sports (The person who just stands there and doesn't try even if the ball goes right into their hands)!

Edit: Also that clueless sub who has no idea what they're doing, so they rant for the entire class period about their et cat or something when there's a huge essay due tomorrow!

-And that one person who's always complaining about other people! ... Why... are you all looking at me?

Anyway, that's my very extensive list. I'm looking forward to seeing some of yours!

  5. Basically, if you were offered an opportunity to travel to travel on the first manned mission to Mars with, say, 10 strangers and start a human colony, would you take it? You would have to leave behind your family, friends, pets, and life as you know it. On the other hand, you would be one of the first people to go to Mars!

Personally, I'd definitely go, as a huge space nerd, and the fact that I would finally be able to do something useful and make a difference. To be brutally honest, nobody would really miss me, and most people would be happier if I was 225 million km away from them.

  6. Multiple times throughout The Final Empire we see scenes of Kelsier killing people with no conscience whatsoever.  There was even a scene where he was prepared to kill one of his own soldiers, Bilg, to make his point. I recall reading a WOB somewhere that Kelsier was a psychopath, but that doesn't necessarily justify his massacres. However, we witness many acts of Kelsier which would be considered heroic, namely

Sacrificing himself to ignite the rebellion.

So what is Kelsier? Hero or villain? Deurteragonist or Antihero?

  7. A random thought came across my mind during my reread of Firefight. The fact that Val seemed extremely irritable and cold all the time stuck out to me as the effects of an Epic using her powers. Just random speculation with no actual concrete evidence, but maybe we can hope for a reappearance in Calamity!

  8. (Mitosis and Firefight spoilers)

From Firefight, we learn that Epics like Mitosis had been flocking to Babylon Restored to seek Regalia and get a power boost. When an Epic is confronted with his/her weakness, their powers simply stop working, and they become human again. However, in Mitosis, we could see how his weakness, his own music, was directly affecting him, "melting" his clones, which we have never seen a weakness actually "killing" an Epic. Basically, my theory is that the more powerful an Epic, or if they get a power supplement, the more vulnerable or affected they will be by their weakness. Laws of equilibrium still apply to even Epics.

  9. A team of neurologists wishes to study my abnormal brain.

I'm exaggerating things by saying it that way, but my brain is definitely abnormal.  The condition's called aphantasia and was only really discovered last year - it's the inability to form mental pictures, or really, experience most sense memories.  I can't recall pictures, smells, textures....none of that.

I can't generate mental images either.  Best I can manage is about a tenth of a second flicker of something vague.  Yes, that means that when I'm reading, I don't generate any kind of picture of any setting, characters, action - nothing at all.

I'm in contact with the researchers who are studying the condition now, and have given them a helping hand.  If you'd like to assess yourself and help us out (for science!), take this survey - and if your score is below 32, consider taking the one it links to when you submit your results.  For the record, I scored a 23 - and my wife scored a 55.

Despite all that, I write science fiction and fantasy.

Oh, and there is a thread about this in Creator's Corner.

Wow. That's really interesting. Does that mean you can't dream?

  10.

    Yes.

    Possessing neither strength nor guile

I am sought to bludgeon obedience from men

And to persuade the minds of gods.

She's a little kid, so she isn't strong or smart enough to make anyone do anything yet. She was kidnapped so Denth could force her father to change his position in the court debates and convince the gods to declare war on Idris.

Born of plenty that refuses gain,

Her father inherited a fortune, but won't accept any payment for his own work.

I raised wrath in the greatest god

When Vasher (who's also Peacegiver, the most important god in the Hallandren religion) saw her in the cage he went into a rage and killed everyone in sight, and I don't think Nightblood was responsible for much of it.

And the pity in the eldest god's child.

This one's about Vivenna's reaction to seeing her in the cage As an Idrian royal, Vivenna is directly descended from the First Returned--the original god of the Iridescent Tones, even if the religion wasn't founded for years after his death.

Gone with a fountain spray of gold,

When Misel was taken, the thieves tipped over a carriage full of valuables, and gold went flying everywhere.

Returned with shadows and howling beasts,

Vasher brought her back in the middle of the night while her family's watchdogs kicked up a fuss.

Between the two I note nothing worthy of thought.

Vasher wiped her memory so she doesn't remember anything about her captivity.

This took a lot longer than i thought it would. As I said already, Misel kind of stuck in my mind--I kinda shared Vasher's berserker rage after reading "Inside the cage was a child [...] sniffling quietly and quivering. The cage stank of human waste, and the child was covered in grime—all except for lines on her cheeks, which had been streaked clean by tears." I figured she would stick in other people's heads too and be easier to guess than she really was.

I don't recall ANY of this. At all. And I've read Warbreaker several times. Looks like I need to pay more attention

  11. He failed to identify Prof and Megan, had no idea Fortuity possessed enhanced reflexes and agility, and spent the entire first book and part of the second believing Firefight was an illusionist. If he really could identify the powers of Epics, he should have known what Firefight was from the beginning, and he wouldn't have been blindsided by Fortuity's hidden power.

Actually, I thought that David could tell if someone was an Epic or not, not exactly what their powers were.

David figured out neither Prof nor Megan on first glance, he just got very adapt at picking out common Epic behaviour. Plus, he's been gifted.

    Edit:Sparkly ninja, I love you!

My theory would support the fact that what appears as David being "gifted" is actually him using one of his powers to use Prof's powers. You are right about not identifying Prof or Megan though.

  12. It has been mentioned multiple times throughout Steelheart and Mitosis that David has been able to identify Epics easily. I don't have an exact reference, but I believe that it was mentioned in the Prologue of Steelheart and in Mitosis that he had an uncanny ability to be able to identify if an individual was an Epic through "their bearing and the way they walked." However, multiple times throughout the entire series, Prof gifts to David. It has also been mentioned that David was able to figure out and master the tensors better than anyone else. This led me to consider his secondary ability: being able to use or perhaps even "steal" other Epic powers. In essence, I think that David has two powers: to identify and utilize the powers of Epics.

  13. I had a rather unusual dream last night where I somehow managed to get stuck in a garish bright orange and purple spaceship which was sent to Pluto. The whole time, the theme song to "Little Einsteins" was playing. I ended up dying from starvation, exposure, and annoyance at the aggravating loop of the promoted juvenile anthem. Still have it stuck in my head.

  14.

I have 86 visible distinct scars

What did you do to yourself? :o

I worked at the Pits of Hathsin  ;) .  Honestly, though, I'm just really clumsy. And I do a lot of stupid stuff on dares. I've had my share of bike accidents, falling out of trees, skiing accidents, the like. And a lot are from mosquito bites- I guess I have really tasty blood?
