  1. I do NOT like the change! It is hard to navigate, and all of a sudden I am "not allowed to give reputation to that user." Why?
  2. I know a lot of people think the Nightwatcher is a spren of Cultivation, but if the Nightwatcher is associated with "Old Magic," could that mean that it is old, meaning she was there before Honor and Cultivation? Could the Nightwatcher be a Splinter of Adonalsium? What part of the boons/curses behaves Cultivation-ey? It doesn't seem obvious to me. I think we are missing a large part of the picture if we assume the Nightwatcher is primarily a Cultivation thing. Perhaps Cultivation got involved later, but I think Nightwatcher is either native to Roshar or otherwise splintered directly from Adonalsium. What say ye?
  3. That is one of the many almost satisfactory explanations I came up with. Probably the only explanation that will satisfy me would have to come from a WoB (or a sequel )
  4. I am actually skeptical of the 5th heightening granting full immortality because of the heap "paradox." What is the minimum amount of Breath to reach the 5th heightening? Now remove one measly unhealthy Breath, or if that isn't good enough for you, imagin just one of those Breaths is slightly less healthy. By the definition of a minimum, you no longer have the 5th heightening and are now mortal but very healthy. It seems like there must then be an arbitrary asymptote for the 5th heightening. And it even says in-book that the heightenings are only a rough measuring stick (your life sense is better as the number of Breaths increases. It doesn't just start at the 4th heightening, etc.). I conclude that what the 5th heightening really is is a general amount of Investiture where we all just say "Oh, he is basically immortal at this point." 5th Heightening will not sustain you, for example, after 50000 years.
  5. I do not think so. See the Sumsion Defense. Here is a link. http://rithmatist.wikia.com/wiki/Rithmatic_Defenses?file=SumsionDefense.jpg Also compare Basic Easton with Advanced Easton. It looks a lot to me like the crosses that look like plus signs are indeed drawn.
  6. Brandon Sanderson has forced me to recognize and respect that there is a lot to math that I don't know. I actually have a degree in math, but geometry is not my focus or strongpoint. I didn't know about the 9-point circle until reading The Rithmatist, and was skeptical at first. Cool stuff! I think I am a little behind on the geometry, though.
  7. The question is simple. How are Mark's crosses: crossing lines of forbiddance inside the small circles (which appear all over the novel) made? As soon as you draw one, you won't be able to cross it while drawing the other! Do you have to do it "ambidextrously" like Prof. Fitch? Or is it really 4 lines of forbiddance that meet in the middle?
  8. Roshar/Nalthis. Because Nightblood.
  9. Squishing either into a meaningless pulp is messy, but satisfying in a somewhat perverse way. Hoid is like a lemon.
  10. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Darkness. I mean, he means business.
  11. BTW everyone: The real reason for the 52% vs 51% is because he only updated the homepage. The different pages on the site are not properly synched and so someone forgot to push some button and only one of the pages got updated. I think it has been fixed now, though.
  12. When you see the Stormlight 3 progress bar go down from 52% to 51% and you go: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  13. I already have my own swear. It's "busy beaver." Yes it has meaning. Yes I could build a world with a magic system where it is relevant.
  14. upvote. One criticism. It's Marasi, not Marisi.
  15. Odium is so creepy!
  16. When the reason you came back on 17th shard after a long absence is because of seeing lots of signs titled "Come join the Dark Side. We have cookies!"
  17. When Damnation, but that woman is beautiful.
  18. I'm surprised nobody swears by the Colors here! It's probably my favorite Sandersonian curse.
  19. When the following two incidences occur (and yes, they did). 1. My response to "what do you think of Donald Trump" was "He is still a bastard, but at least he is a likable bastard." 2. In my graph theory class, we discussed bichromatic graphs, but I kept (unconsciously) calling them "biochromatic" graphs. Another unrelated swearword: dystit. Extra points if you can guess where it comes from/what it means.
  20. I have made a few myself. The most prominent is probably "busy," usu. followed by "rats" or "beaver," and sometimes used as an adjective. Aleph omega" and "aleph lamda" are favorites also. Yes, I am a nerd. emphasis added in quote.
  21. When you are disappointed to find out that the sign that you thought read "Welcome! We Snap customers!" actually reads "We Welcome SNAP customers"
  22. Why do you think I started reading the Wheel of Time? (A major time commitment, I must confess)
  23. My additions are in RED
