  1. not quite sure how true this is. mind you it has never stopped me if I really wanted to watch something, but I do prefer to be 100% certain my source is on the up and up.
  2. considered both options, and if the ps4 were backwards compatible with the ps3, I might have gotten that. but as it stands, I haven't gotten a new system since the PS2 and never had any of the non-handheld nintendo systems, so between the virtual console and backwards compatibility with the wii, the wii u has the most games available for it. especially when ou add in the fact that nintendo has a great track record with games, and I don't like first person shooters (which seem to make up the vast majority of xbox games). as for the nx, thereisnt enough detail out about it, and I didnt feel like waiting anyway. making my way through The Crippled God much more quickly than I had the last 2 books (though the long snow weekend has something to do with that)
  3. given that he wrote "Heaven Sent" which is arguably the best episode they've done since the show was rebooted, they clearly should try to keep him around at least a little bit.
  4. picked up my copy today, but want to finish "The Crippled God" first before I get into it. this is going to be even further slowed by the fact that I now have a Wii U so my free time will be further split.
  5. I agree with you, I was just pointing out the opinion I have seen floating around. personally I liked it
  6. for what its worth, there is a lot of discussion in this thread about the Malazan Book of the Fallen series (Gardens of the moon is from that) and a lot of people will tell you you can/should skip that one and get back to it basically because it drops you in with almost no hand holding to introduce the world to you. That means it can be a bit tough to get in to.
  7. Yea, gonna say it really depends on what you mean by "chaos deck". I have a deck I refer to that way, but it might more accurately be called something else. it is less about random chance and more about dealing pain to everyone/everything. a friend of mine had one with Timesifter (mirrodin, so predates your inistrad only reqmt), which mean turn order was randomized. i dont remember anything else that was in that deck. if you are looking to make a deck based on randomness,, as stated above, red is pretty much the default, with maybe a sprinkling of other colors depending on what other kinds of effects you want: red/black can inflict a lot of pain across the board red/white could let you protect yourself from some of the bad luck, and avoid the worst of the potential backfires red/blue for a spell based deck red/green for creature based I'm not very familiar with any of the chance based cards post inistrad, with the exception of Ral Zarek, whose final ability is based on coin flips.
  8. not sure how useful any of these would be but here are a few thoughts (i don't run this sort of deck, so take them with a grain of salt): maybe look into some of the red spells that make it harder for opponents to block you (like blinding flare), at least as sideboard cards. that way if your opponent runs large creatures (like treefolk) you can temporarily disable them with one spell, rather than having to waste 2 or 3 to remove them. interesting thing I discovered while looking up examples: for spells with the "Storm" ability, the copies you create aren't technically cast, they are just put on the stack, so they wouldn't help you (which is a pity) but Isochron Scepter's copied spell is cast (without paying mana cost) so it does trigger prowess. If you ever get bored with your deck, you might try adding Eye of the Storm to it. i doubt it will make it better, but it might make things more interesting. and if you ever have 8 mana just hanging around, mizzix's mastery's overload ability would trigger dragonauts, guttersnipe, and prowess once for each instant and sorcery in your graveyard. and pyromancer ascension, while it wouldn't trigger the when cast abilities, would let you take advantage of the multiplicity of your cards, increasing the damage by copying (but not technically casting the copies) spells if you have them in your graveyard
  9. I take it your normal strategy is something like blast the enemy creatures with instants and sorceries to clear the way for you prowess-buffed creatures to attack.
  10. Its been a while since I read Runelords, but I remember liking them pretty well. Finally got around to finishing Dust of Dreams. now just need to make it through The Crippled God. I like this series, but it is so ense that it makes itdifficult to get through sometimes, especially now that my attention has started to wander
  11. I seem to remember reading that they were planning to do Legends as an anthology type show, with a different group of people each season. I really hope that is true. partly this is because hawkgirl and especially hawkman look really boring, and switching them out can only be a positive thing, and partly because DC has a lot of interesting characters on their deep bench that I'd like to see show up.
  12. I don't do it every time, but pretty often, yes. also, sometimes if I am drinking a cold drink, like water with a ton of ice in it, the same effect happens when breathing near/into the glass.
  13. Wouldn't it just be that the atium is still tied to Ruin (specifically his mind). just because his mind is trapped, doesn't mean the power (which we're told is basically what atium is: a physical manifestation of his power) isn't still his, and isn't still bound to him. it just can't reach him. Also, I couldn't find it in my brief search, but I believe we have a WoB that a shard can't just start acting on its own. it needs a mind directing it. this is why Kelsier needed to step in when Leras died.
  14. highway 61 revisited by Bob Dylan
  15. started replaying Link Between Worlds the other day on hero mode. it's been a while since I last played, and basic light world enemies doing 2 hearts of damage makes it a lot harder (to say nothing of the lionels which do 7 or so hearts with their fire breath, or the dark world enemies that kill me by touching me)
  16. most math after algebra 1 or geometry is really more about preparing future science, math, and engineering students for the stuff they will need. it honestly doesn't have much direct day to day relevance to anyone not in a field related to one of those (though if you ever end up doing your own home improvement work, you may find yourself calling upon a little bit of trigonometry as well. it has a lot of relevance for anything involving triangles). that said, I personally think a lot of it is interesting. limits and derivatives and power series can provide some bizarre results, like Euler's identity. and they also serve as a basis for other, more interesting concepts. but then, I majored in Math.
  17. never seen that method. I have seen a proof that you can't get it down to just radicals, though. my abstract algebra textbook included it in one of the later chapters. well more like it took 5 of the later chapters to set it up and then prove it.
  18. ok, now see if you can do the same for the quintic
  19. Funny, most people I see tend to list book 3 as the best. I find myself in the minority thinking that book 4 may be the best, though it has some flaws.
  20. I'd agree with this. if you had to wait on new installments, it might be a different story, but since you can just read them all through, you might as well make the attempt. if you find you can't get through a book, then maybe skip from there to book 11 or 12
  21. Depends on whether or not actually invoking them (e.g. singing/humming/whatever)uses investiture. if so, it seems reasonable that a seeker would be able to detect them. they might never have detecting anything on scadrial simply because no one knew about the rhythms and so no one was attuning to them.
  22. I prefer Civ V to Civ IV as well, personally, but they are both very good. My general recommendation would be to get Civ V if you are choosing between them, but IV is definitely not bad. Plus, right now the Steam sale is going on (until January 4, I think), so Civ V (plus all the expansions and DLC) is 75% off. I think you can get the full package for $13, which is probably competitive with Civ IV
  23. "epic" but yea, Kruppe is one of my favorites (along with Tehol and Bugg)
  24. I've played Link Between Worlds, but have held off on Majora's mask because I would rather play that one on a full size screen, rather than the tiny 3DS screen. Link Between Worlds is fun, and a bit more open ended than Zelda games usually are, but it also felt way easier to me than the other games I've played
