that sounds like a pretty reasonable assessment of it. though there were definitely times where it felt...i dont know, pretentious maybe?

based on what little I've played of the various Lego games, I am not surprised that it would be fun. they have a great track record on that. am a bit surprised about deadpool, but I suppose they could write a pg or pg 13 version if they needed too -
Elder Dragon Highlander. It is the same thing as Commander, and in fact is the original name for Commander, but people who played the format before Wizards officially endorsed and started producing Commander decks tend to refer to it as EDH out of habit. I'll second @Wyrmhero on the card restriction thing too. you can bet that if I owned a black lotus, it would be in a deck

huh. yea, it has been a while since I last played it. I may also never have noticed because it takes so much time to build up those support levels, and I usually had other strategies in mind when playing, so purposely situating people next to each other was never a high priority. that said, Hector was almost as untouchable as Lynn in my games, so many attacks hit for 0 damage. giving him an additional +3 defense almost seems like cheating -
I don't know if I'd say he's that bad...but the fact is it is close enough that I'm not sure. there have been a couple of scenes with savage that have worked well for me, which I don't think Ra's really had, but they are both exceedingly bland.

I think I may have cheated myself a second pair. Nintendo had some sort of promotion with one of their GC games where you'd plug the GBA, with fire emblem, into the gamcube-GBA link thingy and it'd download you some items, that you could then move into your game if you wanted. I may be mistaken, but I thought there was a second Boots item in there. I rarely made good use of the support mechanic, at least in part because it was next to impossible for me to even tell if it was doing anything. -
That the one where the PoV switches to whoever has just stolen the mcguffin every time it gets taken? I remember that. I think I changed my mind on how clever/annoying it was about 8 times through the story. Also don't know if you've read Rothfuss's Kingkiller chronicle books, but I basically think "The Lightning Tree" is the best story from the waorld that I have read.

I'll second this. basically every scene with Sara Lance, Captain Cold or Heatwave are gold, and Martin Stein carries a lot of his material too. but some of the things they are doing are just frustrating. it doesn't help that Their Vandal Savage is just not very intimidating, especially for the main villain of the show. I don't know if it is the writers, the actor, the director or what, but something is just off about him. having Arrow's Damien Darhk there to compare against is not doing him any favors either, since Neil Mcdonough is hitting that out of the park with every scene.

this paragraph right here basically describes why I never bother with the tournament scene. I can't be bothered to keep up with the hyper efficient deck strategies that people employ and a lot of the time you end up with everybody running roughly the same 4 or 5 decks. it's boring.

@maxal don't want to quote the post because that is a long wall of text but I did want to add a word or two. on the bit about pacing, this bothers me a lot too, especially in books, in fact, where things are a bit less visual. You don't need a big fight scene or whatever to be interesting, and the fact that some people seem to think that you do is very infuriating. I'm probably even more tolerant about this sort of thing than you are. I mostly don't mind when GRRM and Jordan go off a bit on the side characters, and I'm apparently in the very small minority who enjoyed Crossroads of Twilight (I will go to my grave thinking it is a better book than Eye of the World). Also think that Feast for Crows is better than most people give it credit for. make of those what you will, but I'm digressing a bit here. my point is basically that you're definitely right that there is more to an interesting story than just fights and battles. in fact, a story that was all fights would likely be more boring, ironically. A well done fight scene is great (I love Kaladin's in WoK and WoR) but in order for it to really hit home, you need all that tension building beforehand. Kaladin's scenes at the end of WoR are all the more powerful because of what came before.

yea, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the AI stuff, but i did think it was kind of curious.

in the original (well original in america anyway, I don't know what the japanese subtitle is for it) I always gave all my boots to Lyn. then left her to run around the battlefield, completely untouchable, outracing the cavalry units and slaughtering all the enemy. this had some negative side effects on all the other characters' ability to level up -
it may be damaging, but people did it for years. in fact, I'm pretty sure it was still practice in America at least as recently as the 50s to force left handed students to use their right hand. it'd be interesting to see the answer on this one, but based on our societies on Earth: I'd say that is exactly what the do.

heh, i still have to do that on occasion. I'm not really connected with the magic community at large, just my own friends mostly, so half the time people start talking about things that are seeing discussion in tournaments and the like and i'm just completely out of the loop. i'm still not actually sure of the precise rules in legacy, modern, vintage, or whatever all the tournament formats are, simply because I don't participate in those anyway.

the original. not tried war of the lions, so I'll take your word for that. the grinding did tend to get old fast, also, I kind of like in Advance how there is a definitive set number of missions. you know that the only missions that will advance plot and/or sidequests are the ones you haven't beaten yet. anythign else is just for loot. with tactics, I just wasn't sure what certain things were doing. the treasures and discovering new lands was kinda cool, but would have been better if they had actually had any value. -
Age definitely isn't inherently good or bad, so long as the writing is up to snuff. Tolkein was published decades ago and LoTR still holds up better than most series. Plus 1987 is when Mort was published, and is therefore the first time we really got an in depth look at Discworld's Death. I'd rate that book higher than pretty much every single work I know of by at least a few more recent authors (cough Rowling cough).

I'm reserving judgement on the XIII games. I migth play them one day, if I ever get a console that can, but until then, 8 ranks lowest for me...give or take X-2, which I also haven't played. If I found it cheap in a used game store, I'd give it a try. To the comment about Tactics: I found the original Tactics to be far to slow and too dreary, but I played Tactics Advance before tryign the original Tactics. I like Tactics Advance best, followed by A2 (they improved on some things, but made others worse, for an overall wash. if they had done better on the new races, and their unique classes, that would probably push this to first place, but as it stands, I was underwhelmed), then Tactics. it is still a solid game, but playing it feels like a marathon -
I definitely liked DragonLance back when I read it in middle or high school. that said, I've done some rereads of the old fantasy books I read back then, and I am finding that not a lot of them hold up (and even the ones I still enjoy don't seem quite as good as they once did). there are a few exceptions, but in general I wouldn't bet on any particular book or series still seeming as good as I thought it was. Dragonlance very much included

I'd guess that a strong bronze savant (maybe with a couple spikes to increase their bronze power) could probably tell, though it probably would look/feel weird. basically, I imagine that with strong enough bronze, you'd be able to detect the natural investiture in people (similar to the Nalthian lifesense that you gain at the first heightening), and you'd be able to notice the diminished version coming from someone actively storing.

FF VIII is the worst in the series, IMO. I'll agree with you on 1 though. my first time through I got stuck early on and couldn't proceed. when I picked it up and started over later, I got to the end, but didn't have the patience to grind my way up to being able to beat it. IX is easily the best, with X, XII, VI, and VII behind it. I've not played XIII, but I know my friends who have had lots of complaints, and from what I have seen of it, I know I already have a couple. -
Personally wasn't a fan of the way the series ended, but the first two hunger games books were decent. like you say, not the best written, but enjoyable. the last book I didn't like much, and it kind of soured me on the series as a whole. the movies I haven't seen, and after their stunt of splitting the final book into 2 movies, I'm going to avoid them on principle. I hate it when hollywood does that.

I have a friend who looks like a younger version of inspector Juve from that movie (especially the moustache). we've added it to the pile of evidence that he is in fact a time traveler. currently listening to a track called "Vader's redemption: The Imperial March in a Major Key" it's interesting link for anyone interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9MShtCg4fk

I'm kind of curious how much effect you would get by burning regular pewter (i.e. not a pewtermind) while tapping a pewtermind

exactly. the more I think about it, the more I assume that this would all be fine, and I'm overthinking this, but there's just enough there that I felt like I needed to throw it out there. If I'm wrong, then fine, doesn't worry me, but I don't like making assumptions or guesses unless I have a lot of evidence to back it up.

normally Arrow is lower on my priority lists, but all the commercials have me thinking that there will be a lot of Darhk in this episode, and that is too good to pass up.
