  1. I would still call it "really alike". After all he thought they were strange Makabaki, not "aliens" or "scary, ugly monsters", or something like that. I do not have any problems that they look humanoid, because why not. But I kind of have this feeling that it was strange they all looked really humanoid, and not for example just one species of them. The quote about Ruin and Preservation is really what I was looking for, so thanks! I suspected that maybe all the Shards created sentient life these way, because they somehow remembered it this way from the time before Shattering, but I really didn't know if there is any proof for that. But the quote solves all my problems. So thanks a lot! Yeah, I know. But they could've for example have much longer/shorter limbs, more joints, more limbs, be much higher/shorter, etc. You heleped me a lot, thanks!
  2. I meant similar appearance of worldhoppers, not similar behavior/way of speaking/language problems etc. Sorry, I didn't specify it correctly. What I mean is that basicly on each planet we have completely different species of 'people'. And they live and were created on different planets and creted by different forces, so I would guess the difference between all of them should be far (really far) greater than the difference between humans and sunflowers. Yet they all look really alike to the extent that they can easily pretend to be of a different shardworld, and basically they all look really humanoid. Why?
  3. I understand that sentient life (I mean people, really) on each of the Shardworlds was created independently, am I right? Scadrial people were creted by Ruin and Preservation, but for example Roshar people were creted by something else, right? So how did it happen that all people of all planets are so similar that some people can worldhop and blend into society of a different planet without any serious problems? I know that some of the worldhoppers are able to change their appearance, but I think not all of them, or am I wrong?
  4. Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure you're right. WoR already was full of not so believalbe coincidental meetings between various characters and I really doubt that SA3 is oing to be any different. About the letter and the whole deserter thing. I agree that he should have a letter. Any inteligent person would take such letter with him. But does he have it? Well, from the chapter 1 of SA3
  5. I'm not saying that he suddenly loves all lighteyes and is best pals with every one of them. I'm just saying that I think that his anger towards them is no longer 'unstoppable'. I think he's done with revenges etc. and his 'super-hatred' againts all lighteyes, he started to see reason. And when someone pointed out his blue eyes at the end of WoR, and Kaladin thought 'Storm it' I actually think he meant something like 'I used to care about such things, now I don't. There are more important things now, no matter if I'm lighteyes or darkeyes." Or something like that. But maybe I've got the wrong idea. Well, for me saving Dalinar at the end of TWoK never looked like it, but now his change seems pretty definite for me, but I agree that proof would be nice. However if Kaladin suddenly turns around and starts behaving as Kaladin from beginning of WoR, and again tries to pursue "revenge" and "justice" against any "evil lighteyes", I'm going to be severly dissapointed.
  6. I thought he kind of got over his 'unstoppable anger towards all light-eyes' the moment he sait the thirs Oath and got Syl back.
  7. Yeah, I do realise it's a blend, but I always thought of it ot be more SF because of the way they've got to the fantasy world, and all of that. Actually I once read a book that was set in the really fantasy world etc., and I thought it to be a fantasy book, but then at the end aliens appeared, that turned out to be humans from Earth, end the fantasy world was just some different plante in fact, and now I only think about it as SF novel. maybe I'm just weird this way, but that's definitely the reason why I say I read a lot of SF books. I haven't read Wheel of Time, so I cannot help you with the choice, really. I just want to say that if you do start Malazan, read at least two first books. Apparently the first book is not the type of the book that everyone like, and I myself find it acttually more similar to the Black Company than to other Malazan books, but it' still really good book. And I would say it is PG-13, but it really just a guess, as I usually don't pay any attention to movie ratings. Still, read Malazan at some point, it is really good.
  8. I agree it's brilliant, but is it actually considered a fantasy series? I always thought it was more of the sf, really. I only ask, because I also considered putting it on my list.
  9. And I actually have a question. Was it confirmed that Hoid in every Cosmere book is actually the same Hoid? Because in SA Hoid (Wit) clearly states in TWoK that Hoid is not his name. And it made me think that maybe we have two 'Hoids' in the Cosmere. And if there is only one Hoid right now, then who was the original Hoid? O.o
  10. Or the size of the lightsaber, so no one has any size-advantage. I think that we shouldn't assume that. After all KR shardblade is a living spren, while 'common' shardblade is a dead spren. These are two completely different things, I think. And the autor seem to mean KR sword.
  11. Well, at the beginning you said that you want them evenly matched, but I think that 'novice windrunner after 3rd ideal' and 'almost apprentice jedi' are not. Kaladin was really badass at the end of WoR and all that flying (falling) ability and other lashings do not make it any easier to defeat him. And what exactly can do a jedi, when he is not even an apprentice? And actually, as far as I recall, one did become an apprentice while still very young, so 'almost apprentice jedi' is still a small kid. Or maybe I remember something wrong.
  12. I started with Harry Potter on the day of my 7th birthday. I've got first 3 books from my godfather on that day, and I started reading the first one immediately. They were my first 'adult' (I mean 'much more text than pictures') books that I owned and that I read entirely, and also the first proper fantasy books I've read (before that I read only some stories for kids). And basically I am a great fantasy fan and an absolute bookworm since that birthday. You can say that Harry Potter really made my day back then.
  13. Ugh, fantasy books only? This is tough. I mean, I read a lot of good sf books and they usually make half of all my 'top fav' lists. And Polish language series usually make a good part of my 'top fav' lists as well, but none of you know them, so there is no point in putting them down. Oh well, I just may end up having to little series for top 5, but I'll try. 1. Malazan Book of the Fallen - I have nothing to add here. This is wonderful. 2. The Song of Ice and Fire - This has a problem that it got worse with the last book and that some characters are much more interesing than the others, but well. 3. Stormlight Archive - I did read some of other Cosmere stories (not all of them yet), but SA for now is way better than the rest of them. 4. The Kingkiller Chronicles or possibly the Black Company here. Or maybe even the Watch series. Maybe the First Law trilogy. Hard choice here. The problem is that I read these books and I liked them, but it was long ago, and I really cannot state which one was better, without rereading them all. 5. Same as for point 4. My top 4 (four is a good number ;P) Polish fantasy books/series (most of them never translated to any other language), for all the Polish speaking people that may be hiding at this forum, because Polish fantasy literature is amazing and we all know it. 1. Opowieści z Meekhańskiego Pogranicza (Stories from Meekhanese Border) series by Robert M. Wegner 2. Saga o Wiedźminie (The Witcher series), especially the short stories, by Andrzej Sapkowski 3. Upiór Południa (The Wraith of the Noon) series by Maja Lidia Kossakowska 4. Lód (Ice) by Jacek Dukaj - the biggest single book I've ever read.
  14. Hm, if the 'two pentalogies' are so separate, will they have the same characters?
  15. I agree, but wasn't what he did (the thing with Moash's grandparents) before beeing send to Hearthstone somehow illegal? I really need to reread WoR, because I can't remember it. If someone remember it, I'd be grateful, if you share this information.
  16. Granted, but you're head becomes so full of pokemons that you are unable to memorize even single other thing. I wish to be able to speak each of the existing languages.
  17. I for one really hope he doesn't. He's not a Skybreaker to be so fixated about justice. I actually hope he will absolutely ignore Roshone, as a totally unimportant person in the midst of recent events (Everstorm, Desolation etc.), and I think that it would serve them both right. And well, Kaladin has now better and more important things to do than solving his personal problems from the past. I really don't want to see any more thoughts on revenge, any more thoughts on justice etc., because we had them already in WoR, and Kaladin is now past such ideas. I really just want Kaladin to focus on the people of Hearthstone. And well, I don't care about Laral. Even if Kaladin meets her, I really do not want it to be some teary reaunion of two almost-lovers, because Laral is really not the girl for Kaladin, and I think he knows that. But I really wonder how Kaladin's reunion with his parents will look like. I mean, a lot of happened since last time he saw them. He still has slave brands on his forehead, Tien is dead, Kaladin looks like a deserter in the first chapter of SA3 but is in fact a Captain. I really want Kaladin to talk with his parents about all of these things.
  18. I've been really disappointed with Lord of The Rings series, and generally all other Tolkien's books. I do not say that these are not good books. Because they are good. But the problem is that many people say it's an ultimate fantasy series that they are absolutely amazing, flawless, and I actually know some people that treat LotR almost like a Bible. I do agree that the world creation and plot in LotR is great, but characters are simply boring. The descriptions are also boring, and way too long, which makes them simply tiring, and which makes them kill all the action. I still remember the overly long description of trees, and I also remember the scene when Aragorn was arguing with the guard at the King's Palace in Rohan (I don't remember how the city was called). The dialogue between them is 5 pages or so long and the only thing the guard says "You can't take weapons inside", and the only thing Aragorn says is "But I am the king of Gondor, and this is Anduril, which is super cool sword, and I'm not going to leave it". 5 pages of almost the same statements. That killed me. I was so bored with this scene that I think I won't be able to ever forget it Maybe the problem is that I had really high expectations (because everyone says that LotR is so great) but at the end I was really disappointed with this series. The books are still good, but not as good as everyone told me they are.
  19. I actually imagine it has to be crunchy. Crunchy is good.
  20. Thanks so much! Actually I found the version read in an event but it was way shorter than this one, so really thanks!
  21. Granted. But the sooner you get paid the less you get. I want my flat to clean itself, so I don't have to do that.
  22. I'm really sorry for off topic, but where can I find/read it?
  23. I saw one of these in the botanic garden during one of my... let's say field lectures. Really impressive plant (and the flower is obviously the most impressive part of it). But if we're talking about huge, dead meat stinking flowers, then I always preffered Rafflesia arnoldii to Titan Arum, because it has this great meaty looking petals, which make the flower also look like a rotten meat not only smell like it. Plant adaptations are amazing!
  24. Ok, I've put Cambodia on my list 'Where to go to eat tasty crazy food'. Thanks!
  25. Oh, and where did you eat these spiders? I'd love to go there and try some tasty tarantulas, although peanut sauce is definitely not my favourite. Did they maybe have some other sauces to choose from? And well... I like the Titan Arum plant. It's one of the things our lecturers use to make us laugh, because of its peculiar latin name. ; P
