  1. What annotations and where can I find them? I hope the answer is different than "the book", because I just have an ebook version (cheaper than normal book), and I have no annotations there. ; ( EDIT: Found them!
  2. I've got this. I'm a huge, huge Assassin's Creed fan (and not having enough money to get PS4 to play AC;Unity is really painful for me), and I always have some AC concept art on my desktop. I have the whole bunch of them, and I just change them from time to time. ;D
  3. I've had the same problem when I was first trying to register. The problem was solved when I used different e-mail, than gmail e-mail. I've tried like 3 different gmail e-mails, and none worked, but the first different e-mail was fine.
  4. Well, it's not like WoR is the only Brandon's book. What if the person would come here, because they love Mistborn series, or some non-Cosmere novels or something, but think that SA is terrible?
  5. Yeah, he mentions it, I know. What I mean is that, when he mentions it, the reader still doesn't know why he can do that, and the "gods" are presented and they seem to have the Divine Breath abilities all the time, and you cannot switch other Breaths off, and in general it is not actually explained that the Divine Breath can be hidden, so when you learn, that Vasher is Returned, it is sligtly confusing why he and Denth have their Divine Breaths "turned off" and how.
  6. No, I don't think you are missing anything. As far as I know Kindle for Android app grants you pretty much the same software as Fire has built in. I was talking about Fire as an answer to panda's post. But sure, there are loads of tablets to choose from, and there are loads of e-readers to choose from. Kindle is not the only brand in the world. But all the tablets have the same disadvantage, when it comes to choosing a reading device: an LCD screen. EDIT: Of course, I meant "inexorablePanda", not "panda". Sorry, pandas, for confusing you. My mistake. Really sorry. : )
  7. Ok, thanks a lot!
  8. If someone would say that WoR is the worst book they've read, and really mean it, would you say they're a real troll? Because I would just call it an opinion really, really different to mine.
  9. Questions about Warbreaker: If Returned's Breath (I mean the single powerful one) grants them the Fifth Heightening, why is it noted at teh begining of the book, that Vasher only gets the Perfect Pitch after receiving Breath from Vahr? Do you need to turn this Breath "on", somehow, for it to work, or something? And if Vivenna is able to notice that "gods" have single powerful Breath, why doesn't she notice the same thing about Vasher and Denth? Is it because Vasher had more than this single Breath? If yes, then there is still the Denth problem, because I don't remember her noticing that he has anything more than a single normal human Breath. (But maybe I just missed it.)
  10. Well, I also did notice, that female characters tend to be perfect in everything they do in these books. But I think male characters also have this problem, especially main ones. Well, they're not described as beutiful, obviously, but they are definitely all talented and inteligent. Have we actually seen a male character that tries to do something and turns out to be utterly terrible at that? Because I think we did not. Well, one can argue that Elend was pretty terrible king at the beginning but I think it was mostly his personality problem not ability problem. And I want to say that I finished Warbreaker, and I found the romance bit ok. At least the took more time than the others. But what I realised from this book is that in almost all books we have this thing that "first love = love for life". Ok, we had some past relationships off screen (like Kaladin + Tarah), we've got Vin/Zane (but she stays with Elend, and then they turn sweeter and sweeter as a couple, so it hardly counts), and we have Wax's previous girlfriend, whose name I can't remember (but he killed her accidentaly, and so the relationship between them simply couldn't continue, because she was dead), but nothing else. What I mean, is that I would really like for some relationship to fall apart on screen in one of the books. After all people actually more often break up with each other than marry in real life, and it would be nice to be able to read about it and see how characters deal with it. Also about relationships in Warbreaker, but kind of off topic: I've seen some post on the forum saying that "there is too much sexual content in this book", and that "sex in books is fine, as long as it is not described". Of course, I did realise form the context of the comments that authors did not mean some explicit sex decriptions but rather some really minor sexual content. But then I've read the book and there wasb't even minor one. Everything was perfectly off screen, and everything there was was kissing and some lying naked in the bed while talking about babies. All PG-13, really. So I have a question: did I miss something, or is that all there is? Of, course, I'm not judging anyone, because I know everyone has different limits. It's just, because I found quite a lot of comments about it, it got me interested, and I know I have a bad tendency to miss some things during the first read, so the only reason I'm asking is to make sure I didn't miss anything. Because if I did, then probably I missed more than that, and I will need a whole general reread of the book. That's all there is to this question.
  11. Believe it or not, but I've never read a single Star Wars book. Try reading the Robots series. It is set in the same universe as the Foundation series, but much much earlier, and I found it way more interesting. Also, what annoyed me in main books of the Foundation series was that there was this time skip through ages to show the whole timeline of the Foundation, so there were characters constantly changing etc. The Robots series is better in this aspect. And one of the main character from the Robots series is one of my favourite characters of all time. : D And the plot is great, and the relationships between various characters are sooo great in there. I was actually crying at some moments, and I do not do that a lot while reading. : D Well, I also have to admit that I found it pretty fun to see all the connections between two series when I both read them. I still have to read the Imperium series, which is set between the Robots and Foundation series, but I found myself less eager to do that as I read that my favourite character is not even mentioned there. But I'll definitely read it one day. I've read them all, and I think that Children of the Mind is actually better than Xenocide, but still kind of convoluted (unles I'm mixing something right now). And Ender in Exile wasn't that bad. I found it less dull than Xenocide although it may be because the short stories are by definition shorter and so are easier to read. I've read it. And I liked it, although I found it quite a hard thing to read at a time. But that's probably because it was like... 6-7 years ago. I think that I would like it more if I read it right now. As far as I remember the worldbuilding in Hyperion is quite epic and spectacular. Characters are fine. What I found a little heavy for me at a time is that there is a lot of thinking and "kind-of-metaphors" about humanity. The Endymion books that are set in the same universe but later are more straightforward than Hyperion, but they have other things that may make some people feel weird while reading them. I think you just need to see on your own if you like this kind of books. Also I heard that Hyperion is kind of similar to Diune, but I haven't read that one yet, so I cannot say if that's true.
  12. Well, I have an account on another "book-focused" forum, and my friend posted there something along the lines "Did you read The Way of Kings? It's some super-thick book that just came out (I mean Polish translation here), and everone seems to talk about it, and I just really do not know what it is. Is it even worth reading?". So I answered "I've never heard about this book, or even this author but after reading some descriptions and reviews, I'm definitely going to read it." And then I did. : D I finished SA books, read all Elantris and TES, then all Mistborn books, and currently I'm reading Warbreaker.
  13. So, I noticed that we are all about fantasy books on this forum, but are there any sf fans beside me? If there are, then let's talk about sf books. Myself, I absolutely love sf books, some of my top 5 books ever are sf, and I do read quite a lot of this genre. I absolutely love Isaac Asimov books (especially the series about Robots), Ender's Game. And just after I finish the remaining Cosmere books (I still need to read Warbreaker and short stories), I'm going to read Echopraxia by Peter Watts, because I've read his Blindsight before and that is probably the most brilliant book I've ever read. What are your favourite sf books? Do you prefer hard or soft sf? Let's discuss. ; D
  14. Well, Vin and Elend bothered me, but they did have some good moments in later books (also the bad ones though), so I wasn;t as bothered as with Sarene, who was really just going around and falling in love with everyone who behaved at least a little like Raoden. As for b ): After one meeting? Few hours long? I don't see it at all. But Vin/Zane. Oh, my god, I'v completely forgot about Vin/Zane. That was just weird, simply weird.
  15. The best movie adaptations is LotR in my opinion. It is actually the only movie adaptation that I find actually better than the books. Or at least more enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, the books are great, but they almost bored me to death. The way Tolkien writes just is so full of way too long descriptions, boring dialogues and that just kills all of the action. The action that I need to actually enjoy the book and the action that should be well presented in books, because there are battles. How is it possible to write about fighting and kill action in the same time? The movies did a really great job showing all of the epic battles, and kind of made characters more interesting (especially Aragorn, who was really dull in books for me, I didn;t like him at all) as well. And in general the movies are so epic, and I love epic. However I still need to fast forward the "Frodo and Sam parts", because they're still boring as hell, and I still can't stand these characters, and I felt the same way while reading the books. I mean, watching and reading about Frodo and Sam once was fine, but now everytime I do a rewatch and reread, I just skip their part. Hobbit movies are fine, and I thonk I liked them, but there nowhere near as good as original LotR movies.
  16. You're right. And actually I was under strong impression that all they did was sending letters. Hm. But still, Sarene did actually fell (or just started to fell) in love with Spirit (when she didn't know who he was) just after she met him. I agree with Dunkum on this one, it did seem rushed. And I still feel that even considering their "prior to novel conversations through Seons" Raoden's behaviour towards Sarene was unjustified. What I mean is that I liked it when he worked to help the people, but then he started to do to do everything just to spend time with Sarene. it was like he completely lost his mind., and I felt it was out of his character to do so. I did not like this change. True, but I mentioned her only because she annoyed me most of the characters. Sorry. In this paragraph I got mixed about what annoys me about a character and what annoys me about the romance portrayal. I focused on Marasi, which, if consider her a fangirl, is ok, but I really didn't find her behaving like a fingirl really. Yeah, she did read all this, and she did find them an icon, but I when I was reading, I actually didn't find her to be on high enough level of fascination with Wax, and it just doesn't feel right to me. For me she did seem to be to jealous about Wax, and thinking too little about him as her idol, for this to be 100% justified. However I consider myself to be somehow emotionally impaired, so I might have it wrong, so my opinion just my look wrong to you. My EQ is probably terribly low. ; ) But I have to say that Wax is no better than Marasi, when it comes to "love at the first sight", and he really isn't "Marasi's fingirl", and he has a dead girlfriend problems. I actually think that he is trying to convince himself that he did not fall for her, but in fact he did. Oh well. Well, I really shouldn't answer to that one, because I really need to do a SA reread, but I've got an impression that it was just Adolin to "fell at first sight", and that Shallan was still finding marriage with him simply useful for her, but as I said I really need a reread, so that impression might be totally wrong, and that is why I didn't mention anything about SA. That's why I said that "I am dissapointed, and that is my personal opinion" not that "everyone should be dissapointed, because my opinion is the only true opinion". And well, the problem is not how fast you marry someone, but how fast you are so totally in love with someone that you decide to die for them (or save them at the cost of your life), or that you lose your mind when "your love after 2 meetings" is taken from you.
  17. Before I say anything else, I want to say that I relly do love Cosmere novels. I'm going to say blasphemy here, and probably commit a social suicide, but I'm really dissapointed in romance in Elantris and all Mistborn novels (everything else in the books is amazing, seriously). I find it forced, unbelievable, unneccessary, and really, really annoying. Maybe I'm just not really romantic type of a person, but I really do not think that "complete love at the first sight" is believable (or even "love before first sight" like in Elantris), and I really find it cliche. Especially Raoden and Sarene were annoying me. Separately the characters are fine, and I really love Raoden, but there were moments that I just wanted to kill him and myself for being forced to read about his ridiculous heart problems. I mean, he knew Sarene for what, like 2 hours in total (yeah, I know it was longer than that, but the point is that he knew her for really short time, and they hardly even talked), and then suddenly he is like "Oh, I couldn't save the woman I love, so I better lose my mind and become the ball of pain.". I don't get it. Also, everytime Marasi thought "Oh, am I really jelous?" in Alloy of Law, I just couldn't stand it, because she only met Wax twice at this point, for god's sake. I will really like it if Steris gets some nice character development and Wax ends up with her, and not Marasi. Would be way more interesting. I don't know, maybe I am just not romantic enough to like it, or maybe I had too many screwed up relationships myself, and that broke my mind, or something. I just really don't like the way Brandon writes romance. If you want, you can hate me for this comment, but I really needed to say it to someone, and I do not know any other people that read Cosmere novels at all, so this forum is the only place people can understand what I am talking about, even though saying something like this is probably considered a blasphemy here. I still haven't read short stories and I just started Warbreaker, so I can't really talk about them. And I really didn't write it to start a discussion, so if you really do not agree with me, just give me a downvote. There is no point in derailing from the main topic.
  18. Accessing full internet using free 3G was only available on Kindle 2 Keyboard. Later versions (including Kindle Paperwhite and Voyage) have restricted 3G access to just several websites, and the browser can be only accessed with wi-fi to be able to access all websites. However there are some tricks how to go around it (like you can go on twitter, tweet "www.google.com", click on the link created and then google whatever you like, but I heard it's kind of annoying to do. ; D ) No, I do not own one currently, but I do know how it works. Kindle Fire (actually right now it is just called Fire) maybe good for reading books, because it is still Amazon product, so it has nice software for book-reading. However it has an LCD screen, which is shiny, hard on eyes, and generally tiring for eyes (especially while reading, so staring for a long time periods at this screen), and can also lead to eye problems if staring to much on it, or if it is too bright. Reading on Fire is like reading on the computer (which is bad, and for example, my eyes, simply hurt). Other kindles (and other e-readers) have e-paper screen, which behaves like a normal paper, and so is not bright, does not shine, and is easy on eyes, and therefore much better for reading.
  19. I would love to be able to read book 15+ times, but I don't have time to do that. So usually I just read a book once or twice right now, rarely more times, and only if it's really, really good. And I never read it again just after finishing it, but only after a long time when I realise I hardly remember anything from it.
  20. Well, Rosharan year is 1.14 of the Earth year, as it was stated previously in this topic. 50 x 1.14 = 57 So Dalinar and Sadeas would be around 57 in Earth years. That's nowhere near 70, really.
  21. I said it states it is set about 30 years after. And even if that wasn't exactly correct statement I do have an explanation for my way of thinking. Well, I actually thought that "~30 years" (which, as I understand, means "about 30 years") and "possibly 30 years" (not "possibly ~30 years", there's a difference) together suggest that the Coppermind Wiki is sure (hence "states") that it was about 30 years, and just is not sure if it was exactly 30, or for example 29 or maybe 31, etc. But maybe I understood it in a wrong way, sorry for that. But, from what you say, it looks like "possibly 30 years" is actually a guess. How did someone came up with "possibly 30 years" idea? Why not "possibly 40 years" or "possibly 20 years"? Is there anything that suggests that 30 years is the best guess?
  22. I have 2 questions: 1. Regarding Pulsers and Sliders: do the time bubbles also affect you aging? So can you live for, for example, 300 hundred years, if you're a Pulser and do you age faster if you're a Slider and use your powers a lot? 2. This Coppermind page states that TES is set about 30 years after Elantris. However there is no citation, and therefore I have this question: How do we know TES is set 30 years after Elantris?
  23. Are these younger readers books? Because I'm also wondering whether to read them or not, and if yes then when.
  24. Ninja'd. And I don't know the answer for the new question. Sorry for this post then.
  25. Are Lerasium beads impossible to split somehow? I mean, normal metal chunks can always be split to smaller chunks. And because Lerasium works in pretty specific way, it shouldn't really matter how much of it you burn it. What I mean is that if you burn lerasium, you become Mistborn, if you don't you don't. I don't think you become less of the Mistborn, when you burn half of the Lerasium bead or something, than when you burn it whole. So I think he could've burn the small part, and keep the rest, really.
