  1. I did, and I found it mediocore. And I don't know what's so interesting in Sevro. So I guess it just depends on the reader's taste, whether you like this book or not.
  2. Doesn't it only make terrible mess and hundreds of useless topics if we create a new thread for the same topic each time the old ones gets dead old? I mean, I've read the rules, I know how necroing is treated, but I've never heard about posting a second thread for the same thing. Wouldn't that be even worse? Sorry for off-top.
  3. My list (the 0.5 places are authors published in Polish and never translated to English, because they also deserve to be here). Still. It's only a "more or less" list. 1. Steven Erikson 2. Peter Watts 3. George R. R. Martin 3.5. Robert M. Wegner 4. Isaac Asimov 5. Brandon Sanderson 6. Joe Abercrombie 6.5 Andrzej Sapkowski 7. Patrick Rothfuss 8. Matthew W. Stover 9. Glen Cook 9.5. Jarosław Grzędowicz 10. Sergei Lukyanenko 10.5 Jacek Dukaj 10.6 Maja Lidia Kossakowska Well. I kind fo feel, like I can put him wherever I want, dependless of whose fansite it is.
  4. It kind of sounds like one of the Discworld books. One of these ones with Susan. But maybe I'm mistaken, since I haven't read them in a long, long time? Hogfather? I'm really just guessing here. No idea.
  5. But how increased friction between objects suddenly causes fire? Wouldn't they need to move against each other, before the fire starts, like you do with flints? And at least one of them would need to be easy to burn? That's a lot of conditions for creating the fire. I'm not a physicist, I don't get it really. What was actually burning in the prelude? Can someone remind me? I don't have book with me.
  6. Cohesion needs to work both ways. There was a WoB saying that person using cohesion would be able to leave the handprint in the table. So obviously to do that you first need to weaken the bonds between atoms of the material the table is made of. EDIT: As for windrunners not being able to weaken the gravitation: I think this is a poor example. It is not said that they can't do it, I just think they don't do it, because it's pointless. Normal objects (like Kaladin's shield and stuff) have already incredibly weak gravitation so you would achieve nothing by weakening it. And Roshar is just too big to be affected as a whole, probably because of how much stormlight would be necessary. And if it was possible to affect only... let's say 4 m2 area below you to try to float in the air, the gravitation of Roshar just behind this area would still pull you down really strong, and basically floating still would be impossible. It's reasonably easier to create an opposite gravitation in this case. EDIT2: And how Abrasion could be used to create fire? I really don't remember this scene from the TWOK Prelude, so I'm just struggling to understand. Could someone explain to me?
  7. Well, please explain it to me. I mean, I dow atch Charlotte right now, and I like it (but why is it called Charlotte, anyway?), but I simply can't watch Angel Beats. The furthest I got is second ep, and everytime I dropped it, because it was ridiculous. I mean, there is a high school in heaven, and there is this bunch of kids who try to kill some girl, and the main guy is like "Yep, I'll help you" and in general it's weird. Does it get any better later? And I suprisingly like AoharuxKikanjuu. At the beginning I though it was meh, but I actually started to enjoy it. As for Owari no Seraph: Well, I read the manga and I liked it. Loads of cliches, true, but enjoyable. But anime was pretty bad. And I can't stand the art and animation is REALLY bad. And yeah. I'm excited for October, and I actually wrote that in my previous post here. It's going to be amaaaaazing.
  8. Harry Potter. No, don't ask me why I think so. Really. xD
  9. Well. Since the most obvious answer already appeared (honestly I also think it may be SA), I'll go with different one: Darker than Black.
  10. I watch quite a few animes this season. If I don't count Arslan Senki (which started in spring), then I think that the best one I'm watching right now is Rokka no Yuusha which is really great. I'm an absolute fan of Adlet, and I even read the available LN's because I couldnt' wait to learn what's going to happen. Also Durarara!! is really good. Better than the previous cour, I think. One thing that is annoying me currently is that there is still no final episode of Kekkai Sensen. It's been months now. It's such an amazing show, but this wait kills it. And I can't wait for October. The Fall season is going to be great, since we get new season of Noragami and K, which I both enjoyed a lot last time. Noragami manga is also absolutely amazing so I have really high hopes for the anime. EDIT: I think I'm going to try watching Madoka Magica, seem everyone everywhere seems to reccomend it. Just the animation looks to be overly cute and pink style, so I'm a little worried, and that's why I haven't watch it before. Well, at least in the posters...
  11. From A boy wants to follow... to ...low on magic I was absolutely sure it's The Way of Kings. xD But then the orphan thing happened.
  12. Read it. Read the whole Robot's series. It's so worth it. I love this series.
  13. The Providence of Fire Haha, I have no idea. I'm just so bad at this game.
  14. All the time I feel like I've read it somewhere but I just don't know where.
  15. The Skull Throne Nah, that's not it. But while trying to find out any book set in fantasy-Asia, I found out there is a epic-type-fantasy book titled The Dinosaur Lords. I can die happy now.
  16. Right now it's actually really straightforward to google it. I think I know the answer, but because I've never even heard about this book before, I'll just let someone else guess it.
  17. Guardians of the Galaxy, movie version?
  18. I would totally swear "I will not procrastinate". It's extremely hard to keep this promise, but Radiant powers make great motivation.
  19. But pterodactyl and Quetzalcoatlus are pterosaurs not dinosaurs. That's completely different clade and order of animals. O.o And could someone give me the link to this Li Xing dinosaur? I can't find how it looked like, and I'm really interested in it.
  20. Since my last post I've read quite a lot of books (holiday time, yay!). Robbin Hobb's Fool's Assassin kind of disappointed me. I liked it, but I think I just expected something more. I also found it really predictable. Well, not as predictable as White Sand I also read recently, but WS was never actually published, so it doesn't count. And I also like Sanderson's world building more than Hobb's. Brian Staveley's The Emperor's Blades was absolutely amaaazing. I loved it. It just somehow matched my taste, and I loved that we followed the Imperial First Family as the main characters. However I feel that it's sequel, The Providence of Fire, didn't live up to the original. It gets better reviews on goodreads than the first book, but I feel that the story just went completely off-rails, the characters' description and their development were turned on their head, making them behave in unreasonable ways, and make very weird decisions. I really don't know where the series is going. Also I think that the ideas and concepts the author presented in first novel sounded interesting and promising, but their presentation and execution in the second one failed. For example character of really didn't match their previous descriptions. Also Kaden disappointed me as a character. If in the third book he actually manages to then I'm going to be seriously tempted to rate this book 1/5, but that's just my personal subjective opinion, so it's hardly valid. I really hope that I'll like the third book more. 7th part of The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne, Shattered, was funnier than the 6th one. And the two first parts of Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown were... all right. I mean, it's a pleasant read and I'll definitely read the last book of this series, but I didn't find it anything really exciting. Today I started reading The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. It's actually a reread now, because I've already read books 1-2 once a few years ago, but now I want to finish this series. However right now that I returned home from holidays and I am actually able to get new books, I'm thinking about reading The Shadow Of What Was Lost by James Inslington quickly in the meantime.
  21. Sorry, for off-top, but I'm also not English native speaker, so I would be grateful if someone could clarify this for me as well. But as for the question I believe that you shouldn't call 'character' 'it' since it's not an object, but a person. I think you should use 'he', 'she' or (if you don't want to reveal the gender of t he particular character) 'they'. But I might be totally wrong. As for the topic: I'm a great fan of Hobb's books about Fitz. They're maybe not the epic type of fantasy we love Sanderson for, but they are brilliant books still. They really remind me of some older Polish fantasy books which had similar feel. I'm planning her new trilogy as soon as possible, when I'm done with the books I'm currently reading. EDIT: Tried to correct the mistakes my phone put in this comment.
  22. Well, I'm done with Brett's The Skull Throne. I have to say I'm kind of disappointed. The fact that really makes me wonder where the author is going with the series. I also finished Bakker's Prince of nothing trilogy. Not as enjoyable read as I expected, since it lacked some more interesting action, in my opinion. But still pretty good. After I'm done with the book I'm currently reading (really good Polish epic fantasy), I'll probably start his Aspect-Emperor series. Or maybe I'll read White Sand. I don't know yet. But I have to say that you really make me want to read Shadows of the Apt.
