  1. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of my hot pink arguing mittens
  2. Is this turning into a debate about climate change? Oh, boy! I better put on my arguing mittens!
  3. Now, I know this winter has been pretty warm, but I would hardly call it summer I presume you are from Oz?
  4. For liking donkeys
  5. I think that "exceptionalism" came into play in my scenario as well.
  6. Ugh, I forgot about that. That might have even started with my generation, I remember friends of mine right out of high school would complain about how "teenagers these days show no respect!" After they said that, I figured the best way to respond would be to say, "Shut your whore mouth". That was a common saying back in my day, I may try to bring it back.
  7. There are a couple reasons why the elderly grouse about the young: 1) We don't do things like they did in the old days. Nothing wrong with that, we are our own selfs and will be different. The fact that there is some overlap in experience does not mean there is overlap in ALL or MOST experiences. In fact, if as an elderly you fail to take into account changes, you probably won't be able to apply your experiences properly to what the young are going through. 2) We point out that what some of the things they thought were "good" or "ideal" are neither.
  8. Most people will tell you to go ahead and skip it. It's not so terribly important to the plot of the next few books, you can just read Deadhouse Gates and find out much sooner of the series is for you.
  9. Now, here's a pointless ponderance: can Nightblood be used as a Spike, and if so, what would be the result? We could probably go anywhere from "I don't think Nightblood is made from a proper metal" to "oh my glob, everyone everywhere would be doomed!"
  10. Horrible Histories is fantastic! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2mhgpc_horrible-histories-english-civil-war-song_fun
  11. If I respond, it is because there is some empathizing going on. In other words, I'm sincere. This could be due to me feeling bad about one's plight, recognizing myself in another's struggle, or recognizing that no man is an island and that the bell tolls for me, etc. It also helps me deal with issues I'm dealing with, either because I feel that others (unfortunately) do have it worse, have similar experiences, or rejoice that others have experiences that I have had and I can show them there is light at the end of those particular tunnels. It helps me connect, balance out some more... introspective aspects of my life. Of course, that's me. I have my quirks (like a near-absolute-refusal to talk about anything bad in MY life) and I can not say that there are not some people who are "sorry" merely because they feel they "ought to be" instead of from any such actual empathy. And I'm all right with that.
  12. How did it turn out? Did it go your whey?
  13. But will you think that after this?https://youtu.be/zz0O9VBIaWU
  14. Dude, get your spoiler tags right, please. Or don't post spoilers outside of a Star Wars topic, either one would be fine.
  15. Well, that's because you're in Tucson, Arizona, silly! Unless you go to Flagstaff.
  16. Wake it up! It's got work to do!
  17. As a man, I'm going to have to bust your pretentious position as spokesman for all men. I do not take offense to your ill defined "second wave feminism". I do not take offense to the idea that there is a systematic sexism because I want to recognize if something I do or think is biased...I want to improve myself. I'm not so full of myself that I think I am being the best person I can be, particularly because that's a life time of effort. I also do not see smoke and think, "well gee, whatever that is, it certainly isn't fire".So speak for yourself. Don't even think to represent what I think or feel because you got it categorically wrong.
  18. I don't blame you.As far as the world lacking empathy? I believe that is demonstrably false. But that is beside the point. Even if the world were completely devoid of empathy or good will, that does not excuse us as moral agents to conflate what "is" with what "ought to be." Otherwise, we are shirking our moral responsibilities.
  19. That is the impression I got as well. Seems more about a specific aspect of gender roles and not sexism.
  20. The hair, being white, makes it a festive, seasonal avatar. And I guess the holiday scarf helps as well One Grinch heart growing two out of three sizes that day!
