  1. I decided I wanted to try Star Vs. the Forces of Evil tonight.
  2. As far as Rey, it could also be that Kylo dropped her off on the planet and told Luke, "I better not see you around these parts if you want her to be alive!" This might be a better explanation for Luke disappearing than "Luke got sad". Kinda invalidates the whole MacGuffin search in Force Awakens, though... of course, Snoke would always want to make sure all the Jedi were dead, but blah blah blah.
  3. Sure we have, there's been pictures and trailers that are suppose to get us excited for the film, and have instead turned him into a pet peeve of ours.So blame marketing
  4. Yeah, I think the best thing to do is to wait until the admins deign to lock this thread... If they ever do, they seem to take great pleasure in our befuddlements.
  5. I need to get a new CPU fan for my laptop, I think. Something like that, anyway, could just need some grease betwixt the CPU and heat sink.
  6. Does Jared Leto's Joker count as a pet peeve?
  7. Without! For she is not a frosty Queen that makes the land endure an endless winter with no Christmas!
  8. Shakespeare is beyond the comprehension of mere mortals
  9. I don't mind that, so long as I can belittle their pastimes
  10. Not created, brought into this world...self made...unmade... Without beginning or end, and therefore non-existent in any temporal sense...Shakespeare is God! And who can create God but Shakespeare? And who could create Shakespeare but God, tapping forever on a cosmic typewriter and throwing dice?God is dead, and Shakespeare has killed him! Long live the God and Shakespeare as one distinctly two singular personages!
  11. One should remember: Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare.
  12. To me, the Myers-Brigg test is kinda like astrology: things are general enough that you will see yourself in it, but it really does not say anything you could not have found out otherwise. I'm also of the opinion that if you can describe yourself with four letters, you might be a tad-bit boring
  13. I believe it was in a Q & A session shortly after the release of the seventh book. Someone asked if Dumbledore ever found/would ever find true love, and Rowling ignored the question and said he was gay.
  14. It can be done (and was for a Spider-man cartoon) but I think it's great that there is an adult superhero movie coming out that isn't completely emo like, say, Spawn.
  15. On the fence is a good place to be I don't think I would ever go so far as to say something would contribute to the fall of humanity. I think there's Art and Mere Entertainment and a spectrum between the two. Now, what I will say is that the more specific your critique is, the better off you'll sound if you can show you've read some or have a concept of the work being critiqued. I've read reviews before that mention plot points that never occurred and therefore look foolish. So one should try a work to review and rate it as a common courtesy. But if someone asks me why I don't read Amish murder mysteries, I'll respond that I can not be bothered with it. I may also call it garbage water and claim that I partake of higher art as I return to read my comics about a man that karate chops robots to death.
  16. And to them, fantasy books would be garbage. I, like many other people, know what I like and can judge fairly accurately when something is not my cup of tea. I do not need to read any of Fifty Shades of Grey to know that I would not like it. I would even argue that there are indirect means by which I could label it as mere-wish-fulfillment-escapist drivel, but that's another conversation all together. In other words, there are plenty of books I would like to read and I need to make judgement calls on what to not waste my time on. When I read drivel, I want it to be drivel I enjoy, and I'm pretty good at this point in knowing what I like and what will enhance my life.
  17. I'm curious: which story do you hate so much that it sparked this conversation? And a related pet peeve: people who say you need to watch a movie or read a book before you decide you don't like it.
  18. I honestly think that at the worst, Rey's characterization in the movies poke at and break some tropes. As far as redemption for Star Wars characters, that's kinda a problem for the series as a whole. They kinda hand redemption out like candy. Let's face it: Darth Vader murdered a bunch of children, stood by while a planet blew up, and did who-knows-what to help forward the cause of the Empire. And yet, somehow he's "redeemed" enough at the end to be a Force Ghost. That does not add up, and unfortunately we might see something similar with Kylo Ren. Though I'm hoping he dies throwing one of his hissy fits at Snoke or something like that. That would be a fittingly pathetic end for his character. Edit: I say like candy, in that it's unearned... not that everyone gets it. I think.
  19. Socks
  20. I don't know, CAN you? I shall await your starting the next thread!
  21. I don't know, but as I've gotten older, it's actually switched so now it's much easier to forgive myself than other people... Not sure why, I just find it harder to give people the benefit of the doubt nowadays.
  22. How do you survive Stake Conferences, then?
