At the moment, it looks like Cruz will win the Iowa primary (which means nothing. The past two winners were Rick Santorum and Mike Hukkabee, and we saw how that worked out for them). We really won't get an idea of who's the actual strong candidate until a few primaries are under our belt. History seems to indicate it will not be Trump or Cruz, though (since poll numbers don't seem to be an accurate reflection of actual voting patterns... which is funny that campaigns have to rely so much on them!)

This may be the Stormlight talking, but with enough planning I'm good enough with almost any meetup (So this year the Hugos are close to Kaymyth, and the World Fantasy convention is in Columbus Ohio though I do not know which, if any, Brandon will show up to...I'm thinking Hugos is much more likely)

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that there should be a balanced perspective. Sanderson can write female characters because he has that balanced perspective/ has people around him that will call him out if how he portrays some demographic is wrong/bad. So yes, you are correct. Female writers are not necessary, but empathetic or people willing to look at different viewpoints are.

Quick rebuttal: a call for calm is usually a means to declaw the opposition. If one only wants to discuss things in a "collected" manner, then by all means do so. That does not mean that someone has to ignore their hurt so others will be more comfortable... particularly because that hurt is part of the reason to call out the behaviour to begin with. As far as the Doctor being female: Moffet did set the stage for this to happen. I can not recall another instance when a Time Lord changed gender/sex/whatever-term-you-want-to-use-I-don't-care before Missy (with the exception of a comedy sketch involving the guy who does Mr. Bean, but that's hardly canon). So even if he will never do it, he has made it feasible for someone else to do so. Now, should they do it? If they do, the necessity for female writers will be a lot greater, I think.

I think I only care about Oathbringer The dates seem reasonable, the rough call for The Winds of Winter is that Martin does not seem to do drafts. He writes and revises until he finishes. You also can not put too much stock in how close he feels he is to finishing. The best indication that progress is being made is that he is taking on less outside work and is traveling less. The latter is very important, since he writes on an old computer only, so if he is traveling he is not writing.
