They kind of have to exist. Physics is largely identical to real life save for when investiture is mucking up the works with its awesomeness, and the elements are the same. Quotes and annotations aside there is no logical reason magnets don't exist, especially on a planet abundant in metal.

Tapping weight really only seems to make you heavier with regards to motion and such really, while somehow generating a secondary effect that simply prevents you from being crushed. You're not any denser or more massive, just. . . heavier. Somehow. In most situations storing it seems a lot more beneficial.

Well, I never said they didn't train with the things. Just maybe never killed with them, or that would be so hypocritical it would be impossible to cover up. New thought though, a lot of the surges aren't destructive by nature. Maybe they've kept the Blades around for other reasons? Miracle working? Szeth did think it was somewhat blasphemous to use stormlight for lighting fixtures in the WOK prologue.

Question about Weaknesses of Epics [Firefight spoilers included]
natc replied to Lightning's topic in The Reckoners
So what would happen if you get some sort of automated weapon to attack him anyway? I guess the concept of fear has to exist for the attacking party in the first place to trip the weakness? -
If the interludes with the trader and his apprentice say anything though, their culture seems to value professions that produce things as the highest social class and people who kill and destroy as worthless though. Having a sacred honoerblade group above it all goes against that. I'd sooner believe they just leave the blades impaled into the floor and use them as last resorts.

Aren't Shin who so much as try to fight something slaves by default? He couldn't have been that before becoming Truthless or his Truthless status wouldn't matter much for justifying his murders. Storms, Shin are confusing despite how normal the country looks.

She's also only met her men over the last month or two and kind of manipulated and bribed her way to loyalty before the respect set in after she truly delivered , while Kal has been defiantly staring death in the face with his current squires for quite a storming long while.

It's called human history. You stumble upon this place with stuff you want, but people own it. Take out the people and grab the stuff. That sounds like everybody really.

Steelheart vs. Prof [Firefight spoilers included]
natc replied to Lightning's topic in The Reckoners
They've probably tried explosions against him by now too, so clearly massive bursts of pressure and force don't do much to him either. What if you generate a field in his mouth then expand it until his brains are crushed against his own skull? Then again, surely they've tried shooting him in the mouth while he boasts . . . -
I believe Dawnslight is physically an adult at the moment. He's just been comatose for decades since he was a little kid.

Beginning to suspect with all these Terrismen and Hoid being a feruchemist (I think?) that worldhopping from Scadrial has more to do with ferrings than it does with mistings.

Can still get pretty far with it in the right line of work really. I would rather not end up killing people for any reason at all really. Clearly I've never done it, but I can tell I'm the type who won't be able to sleep at night for a good few decades if I lost control like that. Not taking the risk here. Zahel approves.

No I mean I'll be stuck protecting the guy even if I hate his guts as long as my conscience thinks it is wrong to just do him in. If I hated him enough and was a Skybreaker I'd be able to lash him towards the sky and kill him without a second thought the instant I see him break the law enough, and still keep my powers. Would rather avoid that kind of temptation going on.

I would think, by referring to the metals as "catalysts", the implication is that they are the . . . thing . . . that draws forth the investiture from its source, but themselves don't really contain anything. Going with the whole chemistry analogy again, they are used up and dump out on the planet again somewhere, unlike chemical catalysts, but they do help initiate the "reaction" that changes the "reactant" form of the investiture into the "product" form that you actually need to shoot people with coins, slow down time, or what have you. And I do say help it happen because the shards can totally force the magic to work by itself if they felt like it. Allomancy runs on Mist as well as it does with metal. And I guess the metal really does supposedly come back somehow, so really it's still here and not part of the end product. Not a perfect analogy, but it's still a better one than whatever analogy one can produce to explain how inhaling hard next to a gem that's been out in bad weather for too long lets you freefall downwards and miss the ground completely.

I think Windrunning would be fun. Throw myself all over the place to get to places quicker, on-demand superglue. Sure, the adhesive bit isn't nearly as attractive, but unlike being a Skybreaker I won't be tempted to murder some random guy that pisses me off by lashing him to the sky.

To begin with, I'm not sure how we could've answered the original question when his power level when bound to the honorblade is the only power level we even know of for Szeth. Surgebinding wise. Nightblood's power is already a known fact and honestly shouldn't even give him similar powers at all, unless something changed about the lil' guy in the last few centuries.

So, one could say that other shards that aren't complete opposites would be distracting due to cognitive conflict and won't merge well (they would constantly disagree on how to approach an action as well as their goals), whereas Ruin and Preservation just eternally tell each other to shut up and ends up working fine?
-
Was under the impression that the mists could snap damnation near anyone. Preservation is already invested in them above the "normal" level (compared to Ruin)and all.

Wouldn't need half that stuff if we weren't busy screwing each other really. You do have a point. Humans are really inconsistent aren't they?
