just a hint for tags. spaces don't separate tags, you need to put a comma between them. And welcome to the shard! -

Outlining, Planning, Worldbuilding and so on (Help needed)
Young Bard replied to Zathoth's topic in Creator's Corner
What are you doing? If it's a big, convoluted story, then I'd suggest a desktop wiki like Zim. It has a few downfalls, but it's free and easy to use (most of the time). I sometimes use it whenever I have a hairbrained idea for a story. Positives: Easy to navigate Great to jog your memory Negative: Very easy to get bogged down on the detail It takes a long time to get the whole lot up to date. I don't think it's mac compatible, unfortunately. But you should be able to find something similar if you have a mac. -
The State of the Sanderson is coming... For those who haven't seen Brandon's latest blog post, he has stated that he intends to do a State of the Sanderson post for his birthday. So far as we know, he is roughly 1/3 of the way through Stormlight 3. He has said after that that it will be either Mistborn 7 (a.k.a. The Lost Metal) or the second Rithmatist (a.k.a. the Aztlanian). We might be able to get a pin-down on that. Although, he has warned that Stormlight 3 might turn into a 2017 release. Anyway, on to shameless advertising. After his last State of the Sanderson, he made a great list of things about what he'd like to get done. I made a flow chart of the whole lot - in addition to a loose timeline - here. I will update this after the next State of the Sanderson. (I'll probably also post here, to be double sure.) So, thoughts? Anything you'd particularly like Brandon to turn around and start writing after Stormlight 3?

Random Stuff V - The Adminpire Strikes Back
Young Bard replied to Orlion Blight's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
There's an "Anarchist's Bookstore" about 2 minutes from school. I've seen it. (Never made it inside, though. I'm going too, someday...) -

Random Stuff V - The Adminpire Strikes Back

Hmmm... I can't decide whether this makes Google Maps a genius or an idiot. It can show you how to walk from Belfast, Ireland to Singapore (ferries to cross the Channels). Apparently, it takes 2,739 hours (just the walking, not including eating, sleeping, etc.) and is an 8705 mile long journey. It's got a line in the directions tab: Notice: This route may cross country borders. Really? Whatever makes you say that? Linky EDIT: Apparently, Cape Town to Singapore is nearly twice that distance: 4,391 hours/23,266 miles. Another Linky -
Gift of Bones ( One of my shorter book ideas)
Young Bard replied to bobsaveg's topic in Creator's Corner
You could make it a double meaning - "Gift" in German means "poison". It would be fun to tinker with... *scuttles off to think* -
I'll keep an eye on Kobold's rep as he approaches 25,000, just in case. (The same with 32,768.) Maybe a few others should do the same, just in case.

Random Stuff V - The Adminpire Strikes Back
Young Bard replied to Orlion Blight's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I'm a lot more conscious of swearing then a lot of people at my school. It's not as bad as it used to be, though. I think I'm heading down the path of desensitization now. I'm trying to work out whether or not that's a good thing. -

Your first & favourite Sanderson novel
Young Bard replied to Young Bard's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hmmm... Maybe if we lump Steelheart and WoT as 'exemptions'. They also seem to make up a lot of the number that breaks the rule. That makes sense. Steelheart isn't 'standard' Sanderson, and WoT is not a solo Sanderson. (For reference, that's something for me to work out another time. This poll can remain as it is. It would be too confusing to change now.) My first and favourite: Mistborn -

There are some really obscure ones out there, which I haven't been able to get my hands on. One, co-written by Ethan Skarstedt, is called the "Heuristic Algorithm and Reasoning Response Engine". One, included in the Games Creatures Play anthology, he wrote one called "Dreamer". One, available for free on Brandon's website here, is called Centrifugal, which he wrote in high school. And then there's the Emperor's Soul, one of the greatest pieces of non-novel writing I have ever read.

Rate the Signature Above You!!
Young Bard replied to Silverblade5's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Slightly clustered - something I would probably flick over if it were any other thread (no offence). A quote from the last Random Stuff thread about you... I really want one of those. Advertising for the Dark Alley... No comment. Keep it away from the highway, and there will be no problems. Joke Theory (in which you vastly exaggerate the part you play) Espoused theories - fairly standard, but good to have. 7.5/10 -

Oh well... Wishful thinking. With Twi and Winter gone, it brings us down to 15, of which 2/3 seem to be irregularly involved, at best.

Note to Peter: Typo on the final page. In the (second?) last paragraph, Brandon accidentally typed 'gentic' instead of 'genetic'. Anyway, it was interesting hearing about the backgrounds of certain things. The only major surprise was the Miles spiking thing, which someone will almost certainly clarify in the Calamity signing.

I have a theory. Over time, I've spoken on the forums to people who say that there favourite Sanderson series was either the Stormlight Archive, Mistborn,or Warbreaker (fine, it's not a series yet. Who cares). I have a theory, however. My hypothesis: With the exception of Elantris, the first Sanderson novel we read is automatically our favourite. Please answer and explain below. I am genuinely curious to see whether I'm right.

Oh well... I guess so... This is seriously grating against my natural inclination to blame everyone except me... Anyway, who wants to join up, and put an end to this madness throughout the alleyverse? To join up to a place where people are safe (somewhat) and we are defined by how bright the street is? EDIT: Hmmm... no-one, apparently. How disappointing.

To be fair, it's just because November is a crap month for me (April and July aren't much better). In January, I could get through 50 thousand.

I know. That's why I'm wondering if she's still on the project. Eastern desert on the main continent is Winter, which is where the Kashora'an Desert is marked as being. Slight chance it's Venture though, which is probably more likely.

With people talking about people being intimidated by WoK's length, it reminded me of the first time I heard a recommendation for Sanderson's work. We had an English task in which we had to write a speech in which we talked about a book recommendation. A friend in my class did WoK. In it, he did mention the length. I'm can't remember the exact wording now, but it was brilliant.

the video, or the random stuff iv thread? And, my findings... The First Random Stuff thread had an average of 0.40 threads per day, lasting 264 days. The Second Random Stuff thread had an average of 1.75 threads per day, lasting 57 days. The Third Random Stuff thread had an average of 3.23 threads per day, lasting 31 days. The Fourth Random Stuff thread had an average of 3.57 threads per day, lasting 26 days. If this continues, it's an exponential curve. If this continues, the Random Stuff threads will be increasingly briefer and briefer, until eventually, you could create a new random stuff thread every minute, and still not create them quick enough.
