returned Priests refuse to tell how returned die. Why?
Young Bard replied to Greyswandir's topic in Warbreaker
This. It's in the Warbreaker Annotations... looking for it now. -
Petition to make the tag 'Alleyverse'. That way, everyone knows what's Alleyverse and what's not. Including the Highway, the Roundabout, and any other things that may spring into being in the future.

My theory: Calamity isn't the creature that caused Epics to start being created. Calamity is an Epic : a.k.a. Patient Zero. I'm trying to work out whether he actually has all the powers as well as being a gifter, or whether his power is simply being able to bestow Epic powers as he feels like it. I assume someone's said this before, but I couldn't see it after a cursory glance, so I'll just put it out there.

Yeahhh... The disappointing thing is, it had a few good premises. The concept of taking a fundamental society, completely scrapping it, and watching the effects? Interesting. Tinkering with the 4th wall? Also interesting. (They've been doing that the whole series. 'Who wrote Beethoven's 5th?' is one example.) But, they weren't able to pull it off. They took the most cliche route. What happens if you scrap a fundamental society? A monster appears. And, can I just say, what dreadful monsters they were. I think a monster which you never see, except out of the corner of the camera, could have worked a lot better for the mass creep effect. And the 4th wall wasn't used to effectiveness. You randomly flick between 4th wall and no 4th wall for no apparent reason. At least, with the 'Who wrote Beethoven's 5th' speech, it served to intrigue the audience, and explain part of the plot line. With that man (I've forgotten his name), it just seemed like a needless interruption, that wasn't needed.

Regarding an RP - do you really mean it? Or are you just joking around. I might be able to try and give RPing a shot, if people are actually interested.

You can search it retrospectively... You can find character matches with their search engine. I found the first page of my novel on it. My originality has been ruined.

On November 15, I started with 11,000 words (less than half way) on account of a 2 day camp in which I did absolutely no writing, which had been preceded by 2 days with minimal writing and a following day also with minimal writing. Already, it's at 12 and a half thousand words, with more to come with a 2 hour write in this afternoon. I'll update at the end of the day. EDIT: 13.5 thousand... Could have been better, but could have been worse.

Help!!! Assassination of Gavilar Coppermind Page
Young Bard replied to Young Bard's topic in Stormlight Archive
Do you have sources for this? Even just a theory page? I've never heard that before, and it doesn't say anything on the Jezrien page of the Coppermind. -
I'm trying to create an Assassination of Gavilar page. The thing is, there are a bunch of characters to keep track of on that night, and I'm trying to keep track of all of them. I'm trying to make a table. This is fine for the most part, but I don't have exact times, which make it awkward. Can people more Stormlight-Aware help me with times for that day. Particularly, how long after these events did the Assassination occur. In order where possible: Shalash smashes her statue - no idea. Any guesses? The Treaty is signed - "a few hours" before the start of To Kill. The party begins - (5 hours before T-0?) Gavilar leaves the party - retired "several hours ago" according to Szeth" (3 hours, maybe?) Sadeas leaves the party - goes past Jasnah as she worries about her shadow. - 30 minutes before. Jasnah leaves the party - left before Szeth does, but not too long before, as Jasnah spots Szeth soon after leaving the party. - 25 minutes before? Szeth leaves the party (Elhokar talks with an Azish and Alethi man) - 20 minutes before? Jasnah meets Gavilar and Amaram - 15 minutes before? Jasnah meets Liss - 10 minutes before? Szeth starts the rampage - 10 minutes before? Szeth begins the fight with Gavilar (1st time) - 5 minutes before? Jasnah overhears the 2 ambassadors (Nalan & someone else) - 5 minutes before? Jasnah arrives in Gavilar's chambers, Gavilar death speech, transferral of the stone - 1 minute before Gavilar dies, Parshendi talk to Jasnah- 0 Sadeas arrives in Gavilar's chambers - 1 minute after. What did I miss? Are there any inaccurate things said? EDIT: Wow... There are really large gaps where we don't know where anyone is... and a massive number of what I think are Chekhov's guns.

Koloss Head-Munching Day = Brandon's Birthday (Dec. 19) Ookla Season = Nov. 25 to Dec. 19 In it, people venerate Peter by changing their names to Ookla the (adverb). But, that means that you have to rely on profile pics to know who someone is. So, it's easy for someone like Kobold to still be recognized. natc, on the other hand...

When I logged in, I was a Ferring. When I'm logging out, a few hours later, I'm an Envisager. Life is good.

Thanks! Elbereth, can you see it now?

I actually made a topic about this here a while ago. It's basically a big flowchart. (#blatant_advertising)

I've sent a PM to Kobold. So far he hasn't responded. I'm just going to start tinkering around with it and see what works. EDIT: Can you see it now?

Oh no... People changing their profile pics before Ookla Season. This... this is bad. There should be a rule against that or something.

Note: I know I'm debating a highly controversial issue here. If you find anything I say offensive, then please PM/ask in this thread, and I'll rephrase the particular thing you have a problem with. I think there is one major flaw with that argument. I have a grudge against the argument "I don't think it will work, so I won't bother trying to find a way." That seems to be a fairly common argument I come up against whenever I debate against a right wing person. They don't say the world they want would be better, they just say it would be easier. Except, simply not attempting something because it looks difficult is just defeatist. I mean, a lot of people said the same thing about woman/black/homosexual rights. And, while we have a long way to go on all of these issues, we are a lot further on then we started out, because someone had the sense to say. "There is a problem here. Let's do our best to fix it." I think the same applies to gun control laws. You can either give up in frustration, call it a lost cause and move on, ignoring the massacres, maybe putting a few inadequate measures, if you're lucky. Or, you can try to fix it, regardless of opposition, and, perhaps, at times, fighting what seems a lost cause. But eventually, if enough people try and help, instead of closing their eyes and blocking their ears, then some headway can be made. And eventually, one day, we might be able to say "We had an issue with guns once... What a relief that that's no longer an issue."

Except... the bad guys in Australia don't have guns. I mean, it is a lot easier to monitor since Australia is sea-locked, but there has been a grand total of 1 massacre that I can remember in the past 5 years or so (ever since I've started watching the news) that was done with a gun, and in it, only 2 civilians were killed, one by an accidental ricochet from a police gun. There were probably other massacres as well. But that's the only one I can name. (For reference I'm referring to the Martin Place Siege). @Twi: What do you do if a teacher has a religious/ moral objection to carrying a gun? Also I don't really trust a teacher or child carrying a gun. That's kind of the point.

The nobles who joined him? But that only gives you 10 (do we know all 10? I think it's just the Great Houses, but some might have fallen/risen since the Lord Ruler's reign began... I can't remember ) +Kwaan and +Alendi and that gives you 12... 4 to go?

The swingset thing that Kobold brought up reminded me of a conversation I once had with one of my teachers. He is extremely right-wing, while I am right at the opposite end of the spectrum. Many of the students enjoy trying to have nerdy, political debates with him (it's that kind of school). One time, there were about 4 or 5 of us in a heated argument discussion with him about gun control laws in America. All of us were in support of the idea, trying to convince Mr (x). One point we cited was how there had already been multiple massacres in schools in America that year, while in Australia, which has gun control laws (and is where we live), there hadn't been any. In response, Mr (x) attempted to find a way to 'protect' students without initiating gun control laws. This is what he came up with. All schools should have six foot solid walls. There should be no trees near the walls, to prevent people being able to use that to climb over. There should only be one entrance/exit to the school. This entrance/exit will also have a metal detector installed. There should be 2 guards next to the entrance/exit at all times. When I mentioned that he'd basically copy/pasted the design for most prisons into a school, and asked him how he thought that would affect the student's mental health, he responded (direct quote, as near as I can remember it): "Well, couldn't they paint some nice pictures on the wall?" Please, please tell me none of you are against gun control laws.

I always find ethical puzzles that involve personal involvement (i.e. you are at risk) to be interesting. E.g. (made Option 3'ed proofed just because of Twi.) You and someone else have been tied down by a nefarious villain. There is an electric charge which is set to go of in 20 seconds into your skull (but not the other persons), killing you instantly. However, the nefarious villain has also given you one untied finger with which you can pull a switch. If you flick the switch, you can make the other person take the electric charge instead. The nefarious villain has had to flee the scene, as you have someone coming to save you, but he will not arrive for 5 minutes, meaning he can only untie whoever's left alive. What do you do?
